Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's advice to reporters who don't get his energy agenda: Check your hearing.
Reid, D-Nev., may look like a mild-mannered man, but when he's backed into a corner, this former boxer comes out swinging. On Thursday, the object of his ire was the Fourth Estate as he lashed at reporters quizzing him over stalled Democratic energy proposals.
At a "pen and pad" a more casual, off-camera chat with reporters Reid attacked and scolded correspondents in attendance, telling them he's "really disappointed" in how they have been writing his energy plans, which include a bill to reign in speculation in the energy futures markets.
According to two Senate Democratic aides, Reid and other Democratic leaders were particularly stung by an article Thursday in The New York Times. It followed on several other reports that have highlighted Democrats' attempts to fend off defections from their ranks to GOP-sponsored amendments, measures that would permit new drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf and in the West for oil shale.
Reporters tried to pin Reid down Thursday on the amendment issue.
In the exchange, Reid told one reporter she should "watch the [Senate] floor more often. ... You might learn something."
Another reporter explained she had watched the Senate proceedings and said it was not clear he was ... offereing separate amendments, to which Reid asked the reporter if she "spoke English."
"Turn up your Miracle Ear," Reid added.
Reid spokesman Jim Manley later told the reporter his boss's comments were a show of "frustration," not desperation.
The House No. 2 Republican, Roy Blunt of Missouri, told reporters today, "Clearly we've built a fire on energy that they're feeling the heat from."

Do you speak English? Fair question nowadays.
Reigning in speculators = moving oil trading markets out of the USA and abandoning valuing oil in dollars?
Yes? No? Maybe?
wow - what a Klymer!
there’s a rigidity in washington d.c.
in both the u.s. congress and presidency
just heard t boone pickens on bill handel am 640, los angeles.
he praised mayor antonio villaraigosa for his energy views.
the mayor is an opportunist.
A former boxer? LOL!
Reid has an energy policy? who’d a thunk? I mean penalizing ‘speculators’ is sure gonna do a whole lot to ease the price of fuel...
funny how the president announces that he is ending the prohibition against drilling and the price of oil has been dropping ever since, except when pelosi said that she would not let the house drop it’s drilling bans.
Senator Reid, are you familiar with the term ‘9%’?
Does this turd realize that if the US starting drilling ferviously, the futures market he is trying to kill would be driving the cost of oil down very quickly.
Maybe the media has been taking their hero Obama’s advice and learning a foreign language ............
Former boxer? My cat could kick his butt..
>”Turn up your Miracle Ear,”<
Why don’t YOU start talking with a manly voice instead of whispering like a librarian.
Former boxer. I’d like a few rounds in the ring with him. He can bring Pelosi with him and I’ll box both of them at the same time. These Demotwits cease to amuse me.
Wow. Did he hand out preferred phrases and terms?
Of course. That's why he's planning to do it right after the election.
I’d take Reid in one hand, Pelosi in the other and club with them on Murtha’s tummy.

Reid needs to be reminded that he is a public servant and lives off the taxpayer. Hey Senator, just shut up and answer the questions. If your boxer shorts are in a twist over a few questions,RESIGN!!!!
I do not think he could whip cream with an out board motor.
“just heard t boone pickens on bill handel am 640, los angeles”
T Loon(nose) Pickens is an opportunist trying to cash in on natural gas. The sorry sob is out for himself period. He’s real old which is a good thing, he’ll be gone soon
or, since the Dalai Bama is in Germany, NEIN!
The reporter should have responded with a question in Spanish.
Harry Reid says “Coal makes us sick”. Well, these numbers are gonna make him sicker. While he fiddles with ‘oil’, coal takes off. Seems he can’t control everything!!
Arch Coal’s 2Q earnings triple on soaring prices

By JIM SUHR
The Associated Press
ST. LOUIS (AP) Arch Coal Inc. said Friday its second-quarter profit tripled on soaring global prices and tighter coal supplies, easily beating Wall Street expectations.
The St. Louis-based company, one of the nation’s biggest coal producers, raised its earnings forecast for 2008, citing what Arch’s top executive called “our confidence in coal market fundamentals and in the company’s future growth prospects.”
Arch reported net income of $113 million, or 78 cents per share in the latest April-through-June period. That compared with $37.6 million, or 26 cents per share, during the same period last year, in which Arch’s profit dove 46 percent after it reined in production amid a softer market.
LOL, He was known as Harry “Two Hit” Reid. His opponent would hit him and he’s hit the floor.
Good point — needs to be repeated often. The U.S. drives huge benefits from having the world's (main) reserve currency. Most Americans probably won't know what you've got, til it's gone.
(For instance, in Canada, we learned how hard it is to pay down a national debt that's denominated in a foreign — i.e. U.S. dollar. As the loonie fell against the greenback, our debt increased proportionally.)
So far all I have heard from Reid, Pelosie and the Obamameister is :
1. Higher Gasoline PRICES
2. More taxes on Gasoline
3. More Bicycles
4. More Taxes on alternative energy usage
5. Anything to spread the pain to business and citizens
If Reid was a private businessman, that statement would likely have gotten him a human rights lawsuit.
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe he's trying to rekindle his boxing career.
Seems to me that he's taken a few too many shots to the head.
He should have asked her if she knows the difference between "reign" and "rein."
handel asked pickens if he was just for wind power, why not nuclear?
pickens said he’s for all energy sources that get us off foreign oil.
natural gas we should be using for transportation and electrical generation since we have a lot of it.
this part i agree with.
but praising the mayor went overboard.
Oh really what else does it consist of? Shouldn't that read "which consist only of reigning in the energy futures markets".
The root cause of the problem is that we need more energy.
Riding bicycles, taxing the evil oil companies, and establishing a Federal Department Mandating Proper Hitch-Hiking Tecniques will do nothing to address the problem that we need more energy.
Try drilling for more oil and building refineries and nuclear power plants.
That will get the job done.
*snort* This won’t endear Dingy Harry to the MSM, will it? I’m hoping they’ll start looking more closely at the Democrat proposals and report them for exactly what they are; the means to stifle the economy to achieve their socialist and environmentalist goals. Oh, and more importantly right now, to try to make the Republicans look bad so they can take back the White House in November and have an uncontested chance to implement that socialist agenda.
Sen Reid must be a different person in his job at the Senate, he seems ineptly trying to cover up for some secret Gov’t business.
In a Dim’s case, “reign” is probably the proper word.
Date: 15th century
1: to control or direct with or as if with reins
2: to check or stop by or as if by a pull at the reins
1archaic : to submit to the use of reins
2: to stop or slow up one's horse or oneself by or as if by pulling the reins
When it comes to the media, Republicans know the only way to survive is adapt and improvise. Only the arrogant Democrats think they should control what the press says, and that’s because they’ve had it their way for so long.
I’ve noticed this, for years, when arguing with libs.
They’re not used to having to provide any sort of logical defense of their ideology (well, because there IS no logical defense of liberal ideology),
and are baffled and turn to intimidation and personal attacks when challenged to defend it.
Jules: What country are you from?
Jules: What ain't no country I ever heard of. They speak English in What?
Jules: English, [expletive], do you speak it?
Jules: Then you know what I'm sayin'!
“Senator Reid, are you familiar with the term 9%?”
Reid and Pelosi are cracking under the pressure.
It’s fun to watch.
Hey Reid, you piece of retarded domestic enemy shit...Those leasing rights belong to *US*...NOT *YOU*!
HOW DARE YOU REFUSE TO BRING THEM TO A VOTE IN FRONT OF THE LEGAL REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA????
HOW DARE YOU DENY US OUR LEGAL REPRESENTATION???
So would Nancy Pelosi, but California isn't in play.
Senator Reid is arrogance personified. In fact, his photo should be in the dictionary next to the word.
My thoughts exactly. When did he box - as a third grader. I can’t imagine his scrawny butt getting into a ring and making it past the opening bell.
