most of what you say is true..however i’ve seen men that would rather face a charging grizzly bear unarmed than their own wives...

The burden is on those who assert that he did this for financial or marital relations to provide some evidence of problems in that area.

I don’t think he faked it, although I guess I could become suspicious. I can come up with a million reasons why he might fake it. He became insane. Aliens from outer space convinced him to do it.

None of that is the least bit evidentiary. Those that think his death was faked will have to do more than come up with possibilities backed by no evidence at all.

but does it really matter in the long run? it’s fun to speculate on what could be.. I can’t prove God exists in a way that would satisfy non believers.. not everything can be proven that is true. If he is a hero to you, I don’t think anyone is trying to put him down.. stranger things have happened, and nearly anything is possible..

I wouldn’t put Fossett in my hero category, although I do admire him for being an adventurer. To be a hero, he’d have to be doing something for someone other than himself, and I don’t know that he did.

I have an instinctive reaction against speculation that he’s manipulating us simply because we’re unable to find his body. I don’t think that’s fair.

Doesn't anyone remember what happened to this man? I'll bet Fossey watched this episode before he went flying.

Fossett would have had the means to better fake his death than simply “cannot find the plane.”

Got the pic and lat and long from the CtoC website. It is an easy area to get to and I cannot believe it was not searched already. It is less than 2 miles from a decent road. AND less than 7 miles from the Marine base. Poore Lake is the next ridge over and I have spent lots of time there. If I get a hair I may check it out this weekend. What is the reward? :-)

BTW the altitude is about 8500 feet. Tricky drafts for a small plane.

The other thing is it means I have to break my rule and go to Kalifornia more than once a quarter (went to Sac two weeks ago).

Wow! Got your heads up from out of the blue. I have been agreeably surprised at the knowledge out there from Freepers on this particular case. Knowledge that seems to indicate that the odds are against a quick successful search.

Well you are closer than the vast majority of us and good luck.

"I've been doing this search and rescue for 14 years. Fossett should have been found. "It's not like we didn't have our eyes open. We found six other planes while we were looking for him. We're pretty good at what we do."
Good, right, that's why you missed those six planes during the previous six-plus searches.
