ICYMI: John McCain On ABC's "This Week"

"I think people make a judgment by what we do and what we don't do. He certainly found time to do other things." -- John McCain

John McCain ABC's "This Week" July 27, 2008

ABC's George Stephanopoulos: "There's also been a flap about Senator Obama's decision in Germany not to visit the troops at Landstuhl. He now says that, based on what he was hearing from the Pentagon, there was no way that wouldn't be seen as a political trip, which is why he decided not to go. Do you accept that explanation?"

John McCain: "Well, I know this, those troops would have loved to have seen him. And I know of no Pentagon regulation that would have prevented him from going there without the media and the press and all of the associated people. Nothing that I know of would have kept him from visiting those wounded troops. And they are gravely wounded, many of them."

...

"In Landstuhl, Germany, when I went through, I visited the hospital. But the important thing is that, if I had been told by the Pentagon that I couldn't visit those troops, and I was there and wanted to be there, I guarantee you, there would have been a seismic event. And so, I believe he had the opportunity to go without the media. And I'll let the facts speak for themselves."

...

"There was nothing to prevent him from going, if he went without the press and the media and his campaign people. But we'll see what happens."

...

"I think people make a judgment by what we do and what we don't do. He certainly found time to do other things."

Well as usual he was being rather nice about it. At least he told it like it was.

YoBombo couldn’t waste his time there because his photo op wouldn’t happen.
Dhims don’t do anything unless it benefits THEM.

Exactly, and that is the crux of the matter, the trip would not have benefitted Obamao enough to make it worthwhile.

Nevermind that the wounded may have liked to see him...

If he is acting this way now, what will happen “if” he ever becomes CINC?

McCain, as a wounded vet during the Vietnam war, knows that the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who are in that hospital would have been happy to have the consideration of Obama. Sadly, there were no cameras there to record this event, so Obama couldn't make it. Therefore, I'm recommending that no cameras be present in the White House so that Obama won't go there either.

This was an excellent forum for McCain. At the end of the show, "In Memorium" had the names of 22 of our military that died in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last two weeks:

PFC: 3

CPL: 8

SGT: 8

1LT: 3

I mourn these deaths, but I am struck by the clear evidence of the heroism of the leaders who are at the very front of every encounter with the enemy. God bless them and God bless this, the greatest military force in history.

McCain is not exactly our first (or 2nd, or 30th) choice for President, but he is worlds better than the Democrat alternative. Friends won’t let friends stay home or vote third party in November...

I don’t understand what all this flap is about!!!

Barack Hussein Obama wanted to visit Landstuhl.

The Pentagon said no media!

It’s all about me Barack Hussein Obama answered with a ... then whats the point! and took his gang - (my sand bucket & go home, then) - to a gym for his photo op.

this is what B O missed ... because he could not have his groupies for a photo op...

“The Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) is an overseas military hospital operated by the U.S. Army and the Department of Defense. LRMC is the largest military hospital outside of the continental US. It is located near Landstuhl, Germany, and serves as the nearest treatment center for wounded soldiers coming from Iraq and Afghanistan.”

The picture - while amusing - is an ad for "chimpout", a vile racist & violent website.

There's no ifs-ands-or-buts about it - they outright promote racism to the point where a lynching is even depicted in the website's logo.

Please remove ASAP - the ad part is way, way below the standards of FR.

Troops who are patients may not want a flock of media descending on them; and a gaggle of press cameras crowding into a hospital room may not be the best for them either.

But I’m sure a single photographer could have accompanied Obama; or a member of his own staff could have snapped a couple of unobtrusive photos (even with a cell phone)if he really needed to have a picture or two.
