AFL-CIO launches campaign to dispel Obama rumors

(CNN) — The nation's largest labor conglomerate says it's set to launch a major effort Tuesday to dispel ongoing rumors surrounding Barack Obama that continue to percolate more than 18 months after the Illinois senator launched his White House bid.

The organization is set to send out mailers to more than 600,000 union homes in crucial battleground states — including Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin — that directly address the false rumors that he is not a Christian, refuses to wear a flag pin on his lapel, and was not sworn into the Senate on the Bible.

It also beats back claims the Democratic presidential candidate was not born in America and refuses to put his hand on his heart during the National Anthem. (view the mailer [PDF])

A majority of AFL-CIO's membership is considered part of the working-class demographic — the key voting bloc that overwhelmingly supported Hillary Clinton in the prolonged Democratic primary race and is likely to play a key role in the battleground states this November.

The AFL-CIO is also sending out a second mailer that features testimonials for union workers in support of Obama's policies on job creation, health care reform, and worker's rights. (View the second mailer [PDF])

"The mailers are the leading edge of a massive campaign in August to clearly define Sen. Obama among millions of union voters and to contrast the policies and plans of Sen. Obama with those of Sen. [John] McCain," AFL-CIO spokesman Steve Smith said.

That massive campaign will include a large-scale mobilization effort in 24 states, targeting 13 million union voters. The organization will also deliver more than 1 million fliers touting Obama's record at work sites across the country in August.

I gues Obama's official 'fight the smears' website is not cutting the mustard.

Especially considering that they posted a forgery of a Certificate of Live Birth and claimed it genuine. LOL

Let's see how the AFL-CIO mafia handles Larry Sinclair.

Brilliant — I hope they repeat the “smears” again and again. By doing so, they’re promoting with much better efficiency than the “smear campaigns” ever did.

Folks will end up recalling only parts of the mailer and believing he’s a 1) Muslim 2)flag burner

Why don’t they try refuting the fact that Obama associates with Marxist terrorists and racist, America hating ministers.

The only way they'll be able to stop the rumors is to take his "memoir" off the market and demand that anyone who has a copy burn it. A bonfire of the Obamavanities.

That, and shut down the internet.

Isn’t the AFL-CIO supposed to be a tax-exempt, non-partisan organization?

Now THAT is funny. Just like campaigning and the collection of campaign donations shouldn't be done in churches! Ha!!!

i wonder how many of the 600,000 families are even paying attention enough to know about the “smears”? Thanks AFL-CIO for informing them for us. It might raise some curiosity in those rubber stamp voters planning to vote for Obama.

They should try to start in the lunchroom of the factories they control! The AFL-CIO already sent out pro Obambi flyers to the membership but most ended up in the trash and were replaced in the lunchroom by the printed emails about BO being muslim. They can try but they just can’t make the white working class vote for him!

To "directly address the false rumors that he is not a Christian, refuses to wear a flag pin on his lapel"

Obama Dropped Flag Pin in War Statement

Obama Stops Wearing Flag Pin, Says He'll Show Patriotism Through Ideas

"You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin," Obama said. "Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest."

Not all are rubberstamp voters! Last I read about 40% of the voters of AFL-CIO membership voted Republican. We don’t like high taxes either!

This should not be legal.

The members support the union with their dues and they are by no means all democrats and certainly not Obama supporters.

Since I worked for this union for 16 years I well know how much money and time they put into democrat politics. They not only support candidates financially, but use their own employees to do work for campaigns and even provide facilities for campaign headquarters.

This problem should be addressed. It should be illegal.

Since many ALF-CI members may not have heard of the charges against Obama, this is probably good for McCain because a lot of the unionists will go to web sites like this to check out the charges’ accuracy. Could this be a clandestine maneuver by the Witch and he minions???

The more they do this the more attention they bring to the problems surrounding their chosen one.

It's like the Keystone Cops are running his campaign.

“I’m not a Muslim” should work about as well as “I’m not a crook” worked for Nixon. They’ll just keep the rumors alive.

What about the coal miners, truckers, auto workers and steel workers who will miss employment since oBOMBa will not support energy production other than a 30 year renewable plan? The union guys have still not figured out that if you are not in a government job the union is not for you.

The big industrial leaders are simply milking the last penny while they transition to government unions.

I kicked some sloppily dressed chick off my porch and out of my yard yesterday for trying to get me to give my name and address to the AFL-CIO. As soon as I opened the door she started mumbling something about affordable health care. I stopped her right there told her I didn't believe in Socialized Medicine or Socialism for that matter and told her to get the hell off my porch. She seemed offended and asked me if I cared if she had health care and I told her not really, to get a real job and to get off my porch. She kept mumbling something about having a real job as she stumbled down the street. Pathetic

why is it that roughly 50% of Union members vote Republican, and all of their dues go to Dems?

Nixion was elected POTUS after he made that statment.

Google indicates Nixon said it in November 1973, a year after the election, four months before impeachment hearings began and eight months before he resigned.

How does one opt out in a closed state? Ohio is a state where if you work in a union factory you have to join the union or no job. I’m not awayre of anyway to keep your dues from being used by them for whatever they want. Could you elaborate on how to opt out?
