Mysterious crop circles materialize near northwestern Minnesota town

FOSSTON, Minn. — The first reports of something amiss in the wheat fields east of here came early Sunday from barking dogs and bawling cows, but no livestock is missing — no people, either — so locals seem inclined to doubt that alien spaceships made a stop at Dean Sorgaard’s place.

Still, after a UPS driver passing through the area relayed sightings of mysterious “crop circles” to Fosston Mayor Jim Offerdahl, the mayor drove out to check for himself.

“I’m no expert,” Offerdahl said, trying to sound both skeptical and open-minded, “but either somebody was out having some fun or we were visited by someone from another galaxy.”

Landowners in three locations within about 10 miles of Fosston reported finding circular depressions in wheat fields over the weekend, large, intricate and symmetrical patterns suggesting — or designed to suggest — the landing of alien spacecraft.

At the Sorgaard farm, about six miles east and a little north of Fosston, the largest circle in a steeply sloping field of wheat had a diameter of 150 to 200 feet. “Dead in the center, there’s a little circle, a hole, like they could have had a rod or something in the ground as their center point,” Offerdahl said.

No, but there's a whole lot of whiskey gone from the local tavern. Probably several pairs of muddy shoes on porches around the county.

Does this have ANYTHING to do with the opening this past weekend of the new “X-Files” movie? :)

THIS is what Kansas looks like on a typical summer day:

I used to love reading about “black helicopters”; because I crewed one for a while. See, olive-drab looks black at a distance. If one lands near your farm a cup of coffee would be greatly appreciated and no aliens involved! As a memmber of the .mil there’s no way that kind of thing could be kept secret I don’t fathom.

We used to add the ERFS tanks for extended fuel range, they look just almost exactly like big bombs. They can be jettisoned just like a bomb if necessary too. I always got a little worried with those things strapped on, because any wack-job with a rifle can make the wrong decision. But ya can fly a long ways that way.

I used to make those things in the alfalfa fields in Farmington NM as a child in 1956.
We just pushed the alfalfa down with a broomstick but didn’t run around in circles. Made the farmers very upset and my dad gave us quite a lecture on it.

It won’t look like that after T. Boone Pickens sucks all your water out and sends it to Dallas-Ft Worth.

I’m in Wisconsin. Believe me, when he wants our Great Lakes water, he’s going to be hanging from a short rope on a tall tree. ;)

Re “mysterious crap circles”.

Yes. Al Gore must have been there and taken a dump, along with Howard Dean and Al Franken (remember this is Minnesota).

Sounds like a job for Occams razor.

Is the neighborhood sewage filtration system under that? Just asking. Our little coal-mining patch town of 11 houses is supposed to get a “European-style” (whatever that is) sewage and gray-water filtration system. .
I figured it would look something like that - all nice and green right over top of it! :-)
