Why is such a smart man cursed with such a loathing of capitalism? Practically everything else I’ve read about him is pure gold.

What these dictator-judges do not seem to understand is that their authority extends only as far as people choose to obey them.

There's the money quote, right there. And it's applicable to a whole lot more than this one topic.

What is government doing the the marriage business in the first place????

Isn’t “Holy Matrimony” a religious function?

Because when government is the enemy of marriage, then the people who are actually creating successful marriages have no choice but to change governments, by whatever means is made possible or necessary.

That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.

However, I understand he still considers himself to be a “Democrat.”
