Opposition to Gay Pride Parade

SALINAS, Calif.- The Salinas Valley Gay Pride Parade is scheduled to march through Old Town Salinas August 10th. The 2nd annual celebration is drawing strong opposition from the religious community.

Several pastors and reverends on central coast spoke at Salinas City Hall Tuesday. They asked that council members think twice about the implication a gay pride parade can have.

Reverend Chauncey Killens is leading the opposition with compassion. While he plans to protest the parade, Killens says, "We don't want them to think we hate them, nor have we ever."

Lisa Schramm, Board President for Salinas Valley Pride says having a parade in Salinas represents progress in the area. She adds, "Maybe just one day out of the year, they can come out and not be afraid and enjoy themselves."

The controversial topic was not up for a vote, and council members made no decision to pull the parade permit. The celebration kicks off Sunday, August 10th at 2:00pm.

“Maybe just one day out of the year, they can come out and not be afraid and enjoy themselves.”

Yeah, they’re scared to death alright. Gay men don’t act more feminine than any woman could ever pretend do and they’re not “enjoying themselves” in bath houses and gay bars all over the country and Europe. They live in fear I’ll tell ya.

All ya gotta do is let ‘em march and go watch.

Every adult ought to see one in person.

It’ll educate you.

It still boggles my mind that people can use sexual orientation as a reason to be proud.

With the GLBT group it’s always about their little petty social sexual issues. They are free to discreetly participate in their lifestyles...just don’t flaunt it in the faces of all America. Keep it in the Gay, Lesbo clubs and in the bedroom but not out in the publics Main Streets of America.

Gay pride - proud to be gay - loud and proud.

How does that old saying go....."The more he touts his honesty, the faster I count my spoons." Or something to that effect.

They're not proud at all....they're trying to convince the world and themselves that they're proud. Proud to be horny about members of their own gender. What an achievement.

Luke 17 (King James Version)

28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;

29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

32 Remember Lot's wife.

33 Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.

35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

I suggest a different approach. Allow them to march but ask them to promist that they'll respect public decency laws and that the police will enforce public decency laws during the parade. See if they object.

Have you ever worked with any GLBT organizations? It would be interesting to ask them why they feel the need to flaunt their sexuality constantly in public view and when anyone has a problem with this lewd behavior they scream “Hate”. It isn't hate to have public standards of decency and respect for the community at large. Call me old fashioned...

The stupidity of the quote you replied to is those who *would* be at the parade are not those who are living in fear. Instead they're most likely to be those vocal "out loud" types you mentioned.

There are plenty of gay men who are not "enjoying themselves" in bath houses, bars or restrooms nor do they act "more feminine than any woman could ever." They're regular folks who are scared and likely battling depression because they do not like the burdensome "homosexual orientation" handed them in life.

Instead of "having a life" they'll work excessive hours and pass their free time alone at home. Pride parades and the "out loud" crowd tick them off because they do not want to be identified with that lot any more than you want Revs Phelps, Wright, Sharpton or Jackson to define you as a Christian or Lincoln Chafee define you as a Republican.

I have before so I know there's only a tiny number of extremists who fit your stereotype. Those folks are just "Berkeley" nuts.

I hope you consider the indecent displays by heterosexuals at Mardi Gras with equal annoyance.

“They’re regular folks who are scared and likely battling depression because they do not like the burdensome “homosexual orientation” handed them in life.”

There are all kinds of diseases, both physical and mental, that may or may not have a genetic cause. For some diseases, like Parkinsons, there has been a gene found. We don’t pretend that Parkinson’s, diabetes, or any other disease is natural and normal and we don’t stop trying to treat them or find cures for them.

The reason this is not the case with Homosexuality is that the issue has become politicized. If someone is depressed and lonely because of this affliction of being gay, then why not treat it with Hormones if it’s biological or psychotherapy if it’s psychological? In the same way a diabetic seeks treatment for his or her affliction? Or someone does who has Parkinson’s or any number of other afflictions? Whether the affliction is psychological or genetic doesn’t determine whether or not it is abnormal pathology.

All sexual sin is abhorrent in the eyes of God, but He is especially offended by the sin of homosexual fornication. He has never destroyed an entire city and everyone in it because of heterosexual promiscuity, but He totally destroyed two ancient cities (Sodom & Gomorrah) and all their inhabitants, except for righteous Lot's family, because of homosexual sin.

The authorities (and the voters who elect them) of the many CA cities which grant special privileges to homosexuals so that they can flout their ungodly, grossly immoral lifestyles in the faces of decent adults and innocent children, will one day pay a high price for their cowardice. IMHO it's not by accident that the San Andreas fault line runs right through CA's most densely populated areas.
