Alaska's Palin Faces Probe Star GOP Governor To Be Investigated For Abuse of Office By JIM CARLTON July 31, 2008
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- When Sarah Palin was elected governor as a Republican outsider in 2006, she didn't just take on an incumbent from her own party. She took on Alaska's Republican establishment.
Ms. Palin vowed to clean up a long-cozy political system that had been sullied by an FBI corruption investigation. She endeared herself to Alaskans by making good on her reform promises and showing homey touches, like driving herself to work.
Now, one of the bright new stars in the Republican Party has suddenly become tarnished. The state legislature this week voted to hire an independent investigator to see whether Ms. Palin abused her office by trying to get her former brother-in-law fired from his job as an Alaska state trooper.

Off the potential VP list?
The Dems don’t want her even thinking about VP...
And I was hoping McCain would pick her as his running mate.
What is this??
Night of the long knives.
Let’s get Paul Ryan from Wisconsin. Very bright, articulate conservative
Did McCain even meet with her? I don’t remember hearing anything.
This sounds like a total crock.
The sewer ‘Rats have so few pols with any character at all that when they see someone like Sarah Palin they become desperate to try to smear her, bring her down. They simply cannot bear that there is someone so completely superior to their sordid, pitiful lives as Demagogue jackals.
Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me.
“The controversy now surrounding Ms. Palin stems from a messy divorce between state trooper Mike Wooten and his wife, Molly McCann, who is Ms. Palin’s younger sister.
In 2005, Ms. Palin alleged to Mr. Wooten’s supervisors that he had threatened to harm her sister and father and had engaged in numerous instances of misconduct, including using a stun gun on his 10-year-old stepson, according to state documents.
In one instance, she told state investigators, she overheard him on the telephone threatening her sister: “I’m gonna f-kin’ shoot your dad. He’s gonna get a lead bullet.”
Mr. Wooten told investigators he tested a Taser stun gun on the boy at his request but never threatened the Palins. An internal police investigation substantiated the stun-gun incident and some other charges but threw out most of the rest. Mr. Wooten was suspended for five days in 2006.”
I don’t see this going anywhere. She may be off the list, but it sounds like she had good cause to investigate the bum to me.
This is nothing but a headline, suspiciously timed.
Normally we’d see something about favors to HIRE a relative, not fire one of ‘em. I’m sure it’ll back fire on the the legislature, but they don’t care, they got their headliine when she’s being considered for VP.
ping to your opinion on this. It’s been a few years now, since I lived in Alaska.
Dems are planning to take Alaska.
The ex-BIL sounds like a creep who has no business with a gun and badge.
Read the article folks!
Oh but they can’t print the Edwards story though. sheesh
From the article:
On July 11 of this year, Ms. Palin fired Department of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. Mr. Monegan then complained that she and her husband had pressured him to fire Mr. Wooten.
Bait and switch, but in this case it appears that is nothing there. And if her former BIL is as much of a SOB as she says, she was trying to avoid some poor citizen from receiving his wrath.
The RAT pack is in full swing.
Pelosie, Boxer and Feinstein’s questionable ethic problems have nothing over Palin.
Whatever happen to “The Wall” Gorlick? Guess she served her purpose and is now back in the rat hole.
Yeah one has to wonder if the police would think it was not a crime for anyone else to test a stun gun on a 10 year old whether the 10 year old “requested” it or not.
Freepers impress too easily.
I agree. If you read the article, her concern about the ex-brother in law was substantiated. Although the most serious charges against him were thrown out, he was ultimately suspended for five days.
This is sour grapes from a Department of Public Safety Commissioner that she fired in July. He is now throwing mud at her and hoping that some of it will stick.
Comments coming from someone who has been here for two months. Go to hell.
One person at a time and shut down the oil coming from there.
She fired her FORMER brother-in-law? Who on God’s Green Earth couldn’t agree with that?
“Yeah one has to wonder if the police would think it was not a crime for anyone else to test a stun gun on a 10 year old whether the 10 year old requested it or not.”
I really hope so. Anything to be rid of the (ahem) "turds" that have been running/ruining the party for decades.
Vote for McCain's Fine Gold and his non-concern for our civil liberties? Forgetit. I'm not going to hope to see "patriots watering the roots of Tree of Liberty" either (the self-professed same make lots of noise but never get any action going).
America sinking into the sunset will make a grand spectacle for my camera, and my pocketbook. Make it so, y'all. (And don't say I hadn't warned you.)
After reading the article, I’m on Palin’s side. She apparently has made enemies within her own party, and they are out to get her.
Never under estimate the power of the MSM. Truth and proportion are not required in todays “bumper sticker” society. Once the citizens are no longer educated, but rather taught the proper responses to the given “key words and tricky phrases” then truth and thought are no longer important. All that matters is that the Powers That Be said so.
There is no population so easy to control as one that is ignorant, and thinks itself educated.
This is a mock investigation. She’s too popular so the legislature wanted to knock her down a couple pegs. Her ex-BIL is the trooper. He tased an 11 year old and made threats against the family. So Palin and her husband told their concerns to the Commissioner. The guy she fired was LOVED by the UNION. They were p’oed when she fired him. Then when one of her opponents in the general election wrote about the family situation in his blog, the media and the Union ran with it. She didn’t even fire the guy; she offered him a different position.
Anyway, the trooper they were supposedly trying to get fired should have been fired. The UNION protected him of course. The guy got in a bar fight then drove a trooper car after drinking. Another trooper was called and drove him home...without giving a breathalizer. If that was me or you...
Sounds like the liberal death squads have been fast at work discrediting VP hopefuls
Folks, please read the article. This is just Rats in the legislature throwing mud. This is no different than Kucinich having hearings to impeach Bush. Then duly reported by the MSM because of the “seriousness of the charges” (shame on the WSJ).
The allegation is that she abused her office in 2005, yet she was elected governor in 2006. WTF?
The Rats fear this woman, which is why she should be McCain’s VP choice.
Sarah Palin was never a good choice. She is smart and tough, but when she opens her mouth, she sounds like the woman cop in the movie “Fargo”.
Wikipedia has allowed an update regarding this to be added to her bio. But they refuse to allow Edwards bio to be updated.
She has created a lot of enemies in Alaska, including within her own party, especially when she was Ethics Commissioner on the state’s Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and in her run for Governor. This is Alaska state politics. Since when does accusations such as this rise to a level which would disqualify her from running as VP? There is no doubt, in my mind, that this old news, and it has been known locally in Alaska for some time, was posted to discredit her by someone who has ties to another possible VP candidate.
Sara is a RINO - at best.
Yeah, she kind of gets it from both sides. The liberal democrats and the old-guard Republicans.
Interesting. Has she pi$$ed off too many Republicans, so that they’re willing to jump in bed with the Dems to try to get rid of her?
Much ado about nothing. She has more ethics in her little finger than the whole of the MSM who want to bring her down.
"Okay! But are ya sure? 'Cause I mean, how do you know? Do you do a count, or what kind of a routine do you have here?"
Go Figure.....(Eye Roll)
Nothing in the MSM on Edwards..yet it has all the juicy details that they ‘normally’ print with abandon when it comes to republicans!
Take it easy. :)
Hey, I resemble that remark. There's nothing wrong with an Upper Midwest accent!!!
“Normally wed see something about favors to HIRE a relative, not fire one of em.”
It’s an EX relative.
Politically, if she is added to the ticket it willbe to attract women voters. Anybody who thinks this hurts her with that constituency is missing their cerebrum.
Huh. Maybe JM is considering her.
You choose style over substance? You must love Obama!
