Ratzinger was elected pope on April 19, 2005.

I like the way you think, William. NOTHING happens in a vacuum, and everything has both a cause and an effect, sometimes obvious and sometimes hidden. In this day and age, very few effects have not been planned.

There is no "coincidence" in this life, according to the will of God. On a smaller scale and for a very different reason, there are very few "coincidences" where men and power are concerned.

So while the people may be turning more liberal in their own lives (certainly not a good thing generally) the power structure is actually becoming ever more fascist and controlling.

That is so sad. Can you imagine what our Congress would look like if self-professed Christians voted for those who stood for Christian values?

Scary thought, but you're exactly right. It reminds me of the fact that 7 of 9 SCOTUS justices were nominated by Republican Presidents. What a waste, except of course, that what you're talking about is much worse.

Yes, and that's actually a very critical issue for me in the upcoming election. (I'm in the "swing state" of MO.) If Obama was a moderate I would probably vote third party. But since he is a Marxist, I may be able to vote against him. :)

I have no confidence at all that McCain will nominate strict constructionist justices and judges because of his track record. APPEASE, APPEASE, APPEASE. "For the good of the honor of the Senate", or whatever nonsense. His gangland of 14 cost us a few extremely qualified judges in trade when there was no need to throw them over the side. We could have had them all. Now, if McCain is elected will he get away with nominating a Kennedy-type pro-death guy who votes in accordance with the Constitution one in four times, OR will people like us have the massive influence that we had over W? Interesting question. Will McCain even care what we say? I don't know yet. I still don't know how I'm going to vote. If he picks Ridge, I'm long gone. :)

This is one conservative Catholic who is not completely on the Chaput bandwagon. As far as his orthodoxy goes, he is not a particular fan of the Gregorian Mass. As far as correcting liturgical abuses, he is just continuing what Cardinal Stafford had cleaned up in a herculean way the mess left by the previous archbishop. As far as Chaput’s views on abortion? Well, he is the only Catholic Bishop I know of who has publicly stated that a Catholic who is a Democrat can in good conscience vote for a pro-abortion candidate. And I am not impressed by Chaput’s credentials of having worked on Jimmy Carter’s (another pro-choicer) campaign for president.
