It wasnt so long ago that John McCain was The New York Times' favorite Republican.
Now, the editorial board is apparently so fed up that they can't wait until next day's paper and is blogging about him in the middle of the day:
[T]here was something surreal, and offensive, about today’s soundbite from the campaign of Senator John McCain.
The presumptive Republican nominee has embarked on a bare-knuckled barrage of negative advertising aimed at belittling Mr. Obama. The most recent ad compares the presumptive Democratic nominee for president to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton — suggesting to voters that he’s nothing more than a bubble-headed, publicity-seeking celebrity.
The ad gave us an uneasy feeling that the McCain campaign was starting up the same sort of racially tinged attack on Mr. Obama that Republican operatives, some of whom work for Mr. McCain now, ran against Harold Ford, a black candidate for Senate in Tennessee in 2006. That assault, too, began with videos juxtaposing Mr. Ford with young, white women.
Mr. Obama called Mr. McCain on the ploy, saying, quite rightly, that the Republicans are trying to scare voters by pointing out that he “doesn’t look like all those other Presidents on those dollar bills.’’
But Rick Davis, Mr. McCain’s campaign manager, had a snappy answer. “Barack Obama has played the race card, and he played it from the bottom of the deck,” he said. “It’s divisive, negative, shameful and wrong.’’
The retort was, we must say, not only contemptible, but shrewd. It puts the sin for the racial attack not on those who made it, but on the victim of the attack.
It also — and we wish this were coincidence, but we doubt it — conjurs up another loaded racial image.
The phrase dealing the race card “from the bottom of the deck” entered the national lexicon during the O.J. Simpson saga. Robert Shapiro, one of Mr. Simpson’s lawyers, famously declared of himself, Johnny Cochran and the rest of the Simpson defense team, “Not only did we play the race card, we dealt it from the bottom of the deck.”round
The NYT jumps the shark. Again.
How on earth is comparing Obambi to two other empty headed celebrities “racist”? I don’t get it.
Jackson is a washed up has-been.
There is only one President on a dollar bill Obama.
And he is dead, unfortunately.
And “DAncing With the Stars” is not a voter registration event.
The Times certainly can't let FACTS get in the way of their agenda.
I've always said that Republicans think people are smart while Democrats know people are stupid. The November election results will tell the tale.
I didn't get it either until I read lib comments on another article. Apparently, the idea is to scare white folks into thinking that Obama wants to rape their women! But it's subtle enough that McCain has plausible deniability, the bastard!
These people are truly insane. They should be put away for their own good.
Which, of course, is precisely what he is. Go John McCain!!
Have the Justice Brothers weighed in on this issue yet? I hope they don’t wait long to get into the fray. We need them front and center railing against McCain while Obama keeps insisting that this campaign is not about race.
What a sickening, lowbrow attack on McCain. The NYT has appointed their selves to sniff out every paranoid, conspiracy, nut job hidden meaning, from every ad run against Obama.
Sick.
Say, wasn't it supposed to be the Bushies who had a nasty whispering campaign going against McCain on her account ~ some claim about him having a "negro child" ~ and here's the NYT saying she's "no good".
Someone ought to be busy and rehash that earlier situation and see if maybe it was that Sulzberger guy arranging for all those calls to be made in South Carolina.

In a 30-second ad, 29 seconds were talking about substantive issues.
But all the Times and Obama can think about was the momentary picture of two white girls.
That's because you're a racist. < /sarc>
The more Obama and his media minions howl about this, the more it makes Obama look like a big sissy baby. Americans don’t want a big sissy baby as the Commander in Chief.
In Germany, they had a picture of Obama holding a young white girl at his workout that he did instead of visiting the troops. His wife was nowhere to be found in the picture.
Obama posed for the picture, so I presume noting that he is being put with a young white girl in THIS case isn’t racist.
The commercial would be just as effective if they put two black male celebrities. They should do that so people don’t call them racist. But they have to be two black celebrities that are well-recognized.
O.J. Simpson, and Michael Jackson.

But of course the NYT is the new filter that will have to ok any new anti Obama ads, so they would have to approve it.
The youngsters won’t remember, but McCain’s “celebrity” ad does not really break new ground. When Ronald Reagan ran against Edmund (Pat) Brown (Father of Edmund (Jerry) Brown, known as “Governor Moonbeam”) for governor of California, Brown’s primary campaign theme was to admonish voters to choose a REAL governor instead of an ACTING governor.
Of course, Reagan won, and the “acting” epithet was laid to rest permanently in California.
