Lucas Brings Hummer to News Conference on Gas (Virginia State Senator at an Obama rally)
WAVY-TV 10 Newsroom ^ | July 31, 2008 | WAVY-TV 10

NORFOLK, Va (WAVY.com)--It was supposed to be a news conference by supporters for Democratic Senator Barack Obama.

They wanted to blast Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain's plan to give a brief 'gas tax' holiday.

When State Senator Louise Lucas showed up in a gas guzzling Hummer to blast McCain for his stand on the oil crisis, the story changed.

Lucas said, "While Virginia's families are confronting the reality of gas, the oil companies continue to record record profits."

That, from an elected official who showed up in a vehicle that gets some of the lowest gas mileage per gallon.

WAVY.com asked her about the image of that. She said, "I'll say this to you. The Hummer is not driven on a regular basis. It is only to come to functions like this. I have to carry a lot of stuff."

But functions like this is a news conference about Presidential Candidates gas plans, and gas prices, and solving the gas problem.

Behind Senator Lucas, up on the bridge, you could see all the vehicles stuck in the I-64 back up at the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, also burning up some gas.

We asked Senator Lucas whether the questions about her Hummer were unfair.

"I don't think it's an unfair question. While we need to be driving more fuel efficient cars, for those of us who have SUVs and larger vehicles, we don't save money by trading those in when no one wants them to get smaller vehicles that end up costing us more."

The point Lucas wanted to make is the gas holiday proposed by Senator John McCain will save the average driver only $30 between Memorial and Labor Days. And will cost millions in lost revenues for roads.

But all that was lost in the shadows of a Hummer.

Naturally, there’s no mention of Sen. Lucas’s (rat) party affiliation.

Gee, I wonder why that is?

Good lawd! We certainly cannot expect our elected African-American citizens to travel about like a common huzzy. But, we all know the vehicle is not the real story here. It’s a shallow attempt to inject racism into the campaign and cast aspersions against all things Obama.

To know her party all you had to do is read the line about how Oil Companies are the ones driving up the prices. That labels her a democrat and a liar faster than anything.

They love to lie, but Democrats also love to tell half-truths:

They blast Exxon’s profit of $11 billion but they forgot to tell you that the company also paid $32 billion for taxes and other charges on the same revenue.

Democrats expect to ride the global warming hysteria into a rosy future. That’s why they oppose drilling. They’re in thrall to the “environmentalists”.

I am more concerned about thievish politicians sucking our earnings out of us than I am about oil company profits. This is just a Democrat scam to steal from the oil companies and give the money to the Dems’ supporters. It’s reverse graft.

Why, in august, are we still talking about opposing a gas tax holiday that was proposed to start in May and end in a month? Obviously we aren’t getting one now.

Of course, I think it’s funny when Presidential candidates make proposals that involve things happening before they are elected.

Especially when they are senators and should just submit legislation (of course, McCain couldn’t do this because the Democrats will not allow republicans to submit legislation).

Virginia Hypocrites Ping.

Earlier this week Jon Stewart and the Democrats had a field day with the fact that Congressman Virgil Goode had a hummer as part of his presense in a July 4th Parade (he didn’t ride it, but it was plastered with his signs).

Now Lucas shows up in this.

Phasers set to Mock!

The latest campaign ad from Mark Warner has him standing, obstensibly, in a gas station (Citgo/Chavez based on the colors) with the price sign in the background.
The price on the sign is 1.72 per gallon for unleaded.
Can anyone remember the last time gasoline was 1.72 a gallon?
I used to build c-stores and gas stations back in the mid 80's. I can't recall the price at the time.

Daggone short term memory loss.

LOL. That lovely warbling was posted on the Washington Post no less.

Somewhere there is a picture of Sen. Lucas at a committee hearing in her Valentine’s Day outfit. She was a vision in red.

The first time I met her Hummer, it was parked in a loading zone at the Richmond Convention Center. F22strike, Helmut113 and I were doing a bit of street theatre outside while the Dims were having a Jefferson/Jackson dinner during W’s re-election year.

Ol' Weezy's a busy gal. She recently had her pitch for tax payer funded hotel in Portsmouth shot down. That rejection prompted the mayor of P-Town, the dishonorable James W. Holley, to say that P-Town needs a " black " hotel .
