Canada bus passenger stabs, decapitates seat mate
14 hours ago
PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, Manitoba (AP) A traveler aboard a Greyhound bus repeatedly stabbed and then decapitated his seat mate, pausing during the savage attack in central Canada to display the head to passengers who had fled in horror, witnesses and officials said Thursday.

The question the liberals always ask: “What made him do this?”
we should also ask this question
what the heck
When no information is released on the perpetrator or victim, one can only wonder if this is another attack by a practitioner of the Religion of Peace. The method of execution doesn’t sound like anything a traditional Canadian would do.
The attacker had a Chinese name. The victim was a Native American.
Hello! McFly? This has been posted on FR about 100 times already.
Pre-board security screening needed.
Uighur or Han?
Could he have been a......nah, don't jump to conclusions Hardstarboard
Don’t we have a ban of some kind on AP articles?
What’s really disturbing is that with a whole busload of people, nobody stopped the attack. They all ran off the bus. While it sounds unlikely that they could have saved the victim, they should have been able to stop it before the decapitation. And the perp should have been dead before police got there.
“Uighur or Han?”
Huh? You tell me. From a Canadian news site:
Making news this morning: More details on the Greyhound bus murder are circulating. A number of groups on the social networking Web site Facebook are paying tribute to 22-year-old Tim McLean as the victim of a horrific stabbing and decapitation. On his Myspace profile, McLean, who called himself “Jokawild,” described himself as someone who was into having a good time and “getting the most out of life.” RCMP said Friday that Vince Weiguang Li, 40, of Edmonton, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court in Portage la Prairie, Man., Friday at 10 a.m. local time.
There was a young, buff ex-military guy sitting right in front of the attacker and the victim. He ran.
You must have a source that I have yet to find.
What is your source of that info?
I rode a Greyhound for 700 mi about 7 years back. Scariest 2 days ever.
I have yet to see a name on this perp. The Canucks sure are plaing this PC, which makes you wonder if the perp is muslim.
See post 12. I read another story which referred to the victim as a “young aboriginal man.”
Do you see what happens when we let everyone have knives? Why, oh, why can’t we have a national knife registry and ensure that every knife that the gubmint allows us to own is locked safely in a restaurant kitchen or butcher shop?
So, please tell me. Is “Weiguang Li” Uighur or Han? And what, pray tell, is the difference?
Not good enough — the blade must be kept separate and removed from the shaft.
This is an AP story - prepare for the Mod Admin to delete it.
Name of the perp was released couple of hours ago. Li, the most common surname in the world.
there was a strict policy last week, two AP stories I excerpted got canned.
Han are the majority Chinese group. Uighur are the Chinese Muslims.
Mongolian?
That’s right, but there were more details in this article, so I didn’t think it was entirely duplicative.

"July 30: An RCMP officer negotiates with a suspect in a Greyhound
bus near in Manitoba after a man was stabbed and beheaded by a fellow passenger."
in before thread lock!!!
uh oh - appetite for violence and hungry again an hour later!
Li is the most common surname in the world and the Han make up 92 percent of China’s population. So Li is almost certainly Han.
Not anymore.
He must have really ticked him off.
“Aboriginal” is Canuck-speak for Native American, or American Indian, or First Nations, or whatever ethnic label you prefer.
The victim is aboriginal, not the perp.
Tim McLean, 22, was a victim of a stabbing in a Greyhound bus.
You’d think ‘Aboriginal’ would be considered perjorative by some of that group. It implies backwardness in some sense.
Uighurs are (predominantly) Muslim. The name sounds Han.
Thanks.
That would be the way that I would bet.
How many more people have to die before we ban all knives in this country?
Knife-control now!
Think that is bad take a cab in San Franfreako.
WeiGuangLi would be a Han name, but it doesn’t really tell all.
Uighurs mostly live in the Xinjiang Autonomous region in the far west bordering Kazakhstan . . . . Muslim backgrounds. There is a Muslim separatist movement there that the Chinese have to continuously keep in check.
“The attacker had a Chinese name. The victim was a Native American.”
So this makes it a racial incident?
I recall a black man once saying, “When two blacks get in a fight, it’s called a fight. When a black man and a white man get in a fight, it’s called a racial incident.”
Actually that guy did try enlist another person to help, but that person and everybody else ran, so buff ex-military guy followed. He did get back on the bus briefly later to see of he could help (quickly saw it was way too late) and was apparently involved in helping keep the attacker in the bus after the attack was over and before police arrived.
All it would have taken was 2-3 people to run headlong into the guy and lie/sit on top of him until they or someone else could get the knife out his hand or definitively disable him.
When did that happen and why? Did AP formally back down on its threats?
The young man in Utah that massacred people at the mall a few years ago was from Bosnia - who’d of thunk he was a Muslim, too, doing Allah’s bidding. So, we shall see.
Why?
It seems that by the time he had the head free to display, the attack was pretty much OVER. So I'm not sure "paused" is the correct term here. I guess he could have stabbed the guy some more after holding up the head, but I don't think it really would have mattered.
And while the first guy would probably get stabbed and maybe killed, the others behind him would likely survive.
So, if you want to be first, I'll follow right behind you.
By the time you figure out what is happening, that passenger may have been stabbed multiple times. You have to weigh the chance of saving them with the likelyhood you are going to get killed trying.
The main reason for intervening at that time would be to prevent anybody else from getting hurt. If everybody else is getting off the bus, and nobody is left to be killed, you would be risking your life to stop him after he probably already killed the guy.
So I don't fault anybody for fleeing. If he was trying to stab the bus driver, then I would have intervened, or if it was on an AIRPLANE where he might try to take over the plane.
BTW, an ex-military guy still might be no match against another man who has martial arts training and a knife.
