I just called and said "There's a Republican revolt going on int the House Chamber and I wasn't seeing much coverage of it." I got a run around on it. Was told several times "There are no cameras on now. Cameras are not allowed." I objected, politely, that the story could still be covered.

He seemed mildly irritated that I would question that and asked if I wanted to talk to (name garbled) and I said yes. Got a phone tree that led to leaving a recorded message. I did...

"There's a Republican revolt going on in the House Chamber. I understand that the cameras are turned off. You can still cover the story. Thank you."

ALERT! HOLD YOUR HORSES! I just called a very good friend of mine who is the DISTRICT DIRECTOR for my House Representative and this person called and checked on the status of the House while I waited on the other line. I was told that the session had ended as normal and most of the representatives have headed home as is perfectly normal. Yes, the lights have been turned OFF. When you leave your home for vacation, you turn off the lights, right? You don't want a bigger electric bill than usual ... so you turn off the lights. CSPAN is recording but in the dark so the cameras are off but sound continues just as it always does, for the record.

This is some kind of grand stand play by folks in the House. All normal Floor action has been halted for the normal close of business. However, everything that is said on the House Floor, does go into the Congressional Record whether anybody is there or not. So a bunch of yahoos are still pontificating away.... in the dark. DUH.

If you ever turn to CSPAN and see some wild and crazy speech being given on the House Floor for a Representative's pet peeve that is the situation. It looks like he or she might be speaking to an active session but in reality the House is empty or nearly so with the exception of the CSPAN folks recording and the other attention grabbing bozos who want to go "ON THE CONGRESSIONAL RECORD" for their pet project or problem.

the cops should absolutely be looking for kooks in the gallery since it seems to be a carnival atmosphere. i wonder who they take their orders from and if they must obey certain members of congress?
