It's the first of the month in Ohio, PARTY TIME!

Posted on 08/01/2008 1:27:08 PM PDT by reaganator

In my small city in Ohio, population 20,000, it seems that I can't turn a corner without seeing poor people. It seems much worse lately. I just came from the grocery store they were in there filling their cart(s) and buying their beer. They'll be partying on the porches tonight and for days.

If you want more of something, you subsidize it. If you want less of something, you tax it. The government subsidizes being poor and taxes working and businesses. How does this make sense?

The worst thing you can do for someone is make it comfortable for them to remain poor. I'm so tired of "poor" people! Are they where you live also? You see them, they don't work but they cover themselves with tatoos, smoke cigarettes, pot and crack cocaine, buy new clothes and jewelry and have nothing to do except commit crimes and procreate children who they pass on their lifestyle.

I understand the farm bill includes $290 billion in additional food assistance programs. I know this is an election year but when is it going to stop!? This is NOT what that teenager I've seen in the old footage on Normandy Beach gave his life for. You know the footage, we all have seen it over and over, he takes 3 or 4 steps on the beach and falls.

I'm sick of poor people. I know, the more poor people the Democrats can cause that will be that many more Democratic votes.

They are playing us all for suckers, and these bureaucrats are in on it, They advertise to give this stuff away, they raise the poverty limit to encompass more people.

I see them lined up at the cash registers filling out their WIC vouchers and using their Ohio direction card I’ll go off one of these days and say, “You poor, sorry son of a bitches this is America and this is the best you can do!?”

Of course, they are just taking advantage of the system, they are being paid to remain poor. Complete lack of pride, morals, integrety all that and less.

In Nebraska opponents of teen drinking are trying to raise the taxes on distilled malt beverages such as Mike’s Hard lemonade, Smirnoff, etc, by taxing them the same as whiskey. Surely such an increse would disproportionately harm the poor and minorities !(sarc()

I gotta say buddy, your comments rock.

I just vented to my brother about my almost 600 dollar electric bill. On the back of my bill it asked for donations to help the poor who can't pay their bill. I thought "well pay it for them a-holes!"

If raising taxes were the answer to more productivity, try raising taxes on the poor first!

I was born in poverty.
I grew up in poverty.
I did not like poverty.
So I left poverty.....................

In my area, you need to pay tiered rates for electricity so that you are penalized for using more than “your fair share.”

If you are a normal middle-class American household with a couple of kids, you will have a very steep electric bill, especially during the summertime.

If you are a household of illegal aliens with 12 kids, don’t worry. You get a big fat discount, paid for by the middle-class American families.

It’s pretty obvious who the libs are looking out for, and it’s NOT you.

poor people vote for Democrats. There is an active campaign to cause more people to be “poor”.

Is this your town? Maybe these folks can afford to splurge on meat and ice cream instead of going without.

Not my Ohio town. These people could be put to live in concrete and steel poor houses with thousands of other “poor” people. Since when is being depressed a reason not to work? I good cure for depression is gratitude. INGRATES!

I just retired from a major university and I was sitting with several of them at lunch some time ago and the subject of the poor came up. As you might expect, they all fell in line with the “we have to help the poor” litany.

I said: “Why?”

Man...you'd have thought I went postal on everyone. They couldn't believe I could be so callous. So I asked them: Make a list of the good things rich people do (e.g., innovation, invention, job creation, capital formation, support for the arts, charity, etc.) and make a list of the good things poor people do (e.g....??). Given that list, why should I help the poor? We've thrown over a trillion dollars at the poor and they refuse to help themselves. I pointed out that, with very few exceptions, the poor are poor because of bad decisions they chose to make. I have a few of my high school friends who are poor and, while they had a lot more fun in school than I did, they're paying for it now. I ended by saying I'll be glad to help them retrain themselves, but I want no part of more public money being dumped into ill-conceived programs that are little more than designed to get democrats votes.

I finished eating lunch by myself.

I know two absolute Truths; 1) you cannot gift someone out of poverty and 2) a tattoo never caused a woman to be more attractive.

The non working poor are living better than many full time workers. I have a friend who works 40 hours a week at $14.50 an hour. I don't know how he can survive on a net pay of $1800 a month while living in CT. The government has made it so a person who doesn't work can live better than this guy who works full time. Subsidized housing, food stamps and welfare payments give a lazy bum the same living standard as a hard worker. I would rather help the working man make ends meat then pay a bum to stay home, drink beer and create future welfare recipients.

But you would be denying the Democrat politicians a voter. They are the ones who are subsidizing people to be poor.
