Tom Burnett Sr. objects to Flight 93 memorial
KARE11.com ^ | 8/2/08 | KARE11.com/AP

The father of a Flight 93 victim says a crescent-shaped design as part of a memorial to the hijacked airliner "does not properly honor our people."

Tom Burnett Sr. of Northfield, Minnesota, objects because a crescent is sometimes used as a symbol of Islam and the September 11th attacks were plotted by Muslims.

Burnett spoke today at a meeting of the commission advising the National Park Service on the design. He wants an investigation of how the design was chosen.

But Park Service officials and family members who like the design say it was fairly and impartially selected out of 1,100 submitted.

The planned memorial includes a semicircle of trees overlooking the Somerset County site where the hijacked airliner crashed.

38-year-old Thomas Burnett, Jr. was a passenger on Flight 93. He left behind a wife, Deena, and three young daughters, Madison, Halley, and Anna Clare.

I’ve hated this design right from the beginning and so has many many others. What ticks me off about this is the fact that the committee or individuals in charge did not heed the concerns of the families about the design and it’s similarities...they have forge forward which is callous in my opinion.

SOMETIMES used!?

And it wasn't militant Norwegian grandmothers that hijacked the planes, either.

Let’s all have the muezzin chant rattle off in the bell tower. Everybody sing! Allahuakbar!!!

Hey, let’s even have RED TREE LEAVES COME AUTUMN! In the name of PIECE.....er peace!

World peace through total domination.

The original design was actually CALLED “the Crescent of Embrace,” until people started to question why the authorities thought it appropriate to “honor” the dead with a Muslim symbol.

Then they changed the name and slightly disguised the symbol. But it’s still an Islamic crescent. NOT a suitable memorial by any stretch of the imagination.

“Tom Burnett Sr. of Northfield, Minnesota, objects because a crescent is sometimes used as a symbol of Islam”

SOMETIMES??? It IS a symbol of Islam. I’ve followed this story for around a year, and it’s disgusting - sinister undercurrents about the whole thing, I guarantee you. And the “semicircle of trees” lame explanation? Give me a break - Major Barf - even if this were true (which is an unbelievable reach) - WHY even risk hurting and offending the heroic families and their unbelievable losses by pursuing such an image?

This whole thing is rotten to the core, a slap in the face to our American heroes and America itself - shame on those in charge who sanction it. And, regarding a memorial to both this tragedy and the patriots who averted an even greater one - who the f**k cares about TREES as a representation???

There should be an enormous protest and outcry against this. These families, and our entire country, now have to grieve twice.

The same idiots who keep saying “radical Muslim extremists”. The same idiots who want to claim that the hijackers were “victims too” because of their upbringing.

This design dishonors everyone who died on that flight, and their memory.

Or, was it done to lay blame for the cause of the hijacking in the first place?

That’s right, - where the H**L did this come from in the first place? And WHY - has anyone really questioned/investigated that??? Using the word Crescent is not common At All in our national vocabulary. Reminds me of BHO’s quote from a speech about being a Christian wherein he talks about “submitting to His will” (paraphrasing). Submitting is not a term the Bible or Christians use. Islam does, though.

Another attack on us just as surely as 9/11 was.

People, what are we thinking, even allowing something like this to go this far??? The frightening thing is that, thanks to the MSM, 90% or more of the public doesn’t even KNOW about this. Would that someone on OUR side with the deep pockets of a George Soros put the word out.

It haunts me that so many Americans don’t learn, don’t care, are so willing to be sheep - and lambs led to the slaughter.

Only Israel really understands and will stop history from repeating itself, or die trying.

I haven’t been paying much attention to this story until now.
I cannot understand, who in their right mind, would ever think this is remotely appropriate?

It has got to be the product of a liberal mind.

I don't know, but last year I got a fund-raising letter under the name of Gov. Tom Ridge requesting a donation to the memorial with a drawing of the crescent in all its "glory". I sent their postage paid envelope back with a letter telling Ridge not only no but hell no unless the crescent was eliminated from the design.

(wiki)
The commission decided to select the final design for the memorial through a multi-stage design competition funded by grants from the Heinz Foundations and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The competition began on September 11, 2004. More than 1,000 entries were submitted. In February 2005, five finalists were selected for further development and consideration. The 15-member final jury included family members, design and art professionals, and community and national leaders. After three days of review and debate, they announced the winner on September 7, 2005: Crescent of Embrace by a design team led by Paul and Milena Murdoch of Los Angeles.

Three years ago there were numerous articles posted and much discussion on FR about this insanity.

WORSE YET, (and as far as I know it has not changed) are the 44 glass blocks, honoring the 40 dead heroes AND the 4 Mooslimb terrorists. That is an outrage!!!

I’m not surprised.

The National Park Service is infested with leftists. And if the facsists in the NPS used its typical exclusionary decision process, which it likely did, the design was pre-selected before the first “selection” meeting.

Original Crescent of Embrace publicity photo from Paul Murdoch Architects shows a bare naked crescent and star flag on the crash site, plainly visible to commercial airplanes like Flight 93 cruising overhead. The copse of trees that is placed in roughly the position of the star on an Islamic flag marks the crash site. [hat tip Error Theory ]

“The 15-member final jury included family members, design and art professionals, and community and national leaders.”

Thanks for that info.
So now I’m wondering - how many family members? And did they vote for this particular design? or were they outnumbered by the “art professionals, and community and national leaders”

I’m wondering if this “crescant” immediately made anyone puke right away? or is it only Mr. Burnett now protesting. Is he the only one here making any sense?

This may be a distant reference to the mentality of those who designed this memorial. Some polite and intelligent investigative reporting, surely would be in order by the more balanced members of the press.

"After September 11,the first reaction of just about every prominent Western leader was to visit a mosque:President Bush did, so did the Prince of Wales, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the Prime Minister of Canada and many more". The statement goes on.....

"Seeking to reassure the co-religionists of those who attack you that you do not regard them all as the enemy is a worthy aim but a curious first priority".

And more....

Decapitate us and our politicians rush to the nearest mosque to declare that "Islam is a religion of peace".
