Just heard about this on the 9:00 news. Edouard must have planned a sneak attack.

“... Galveston Island’s West End...”

That’s a direct hit. I’m West of the seawall, looking right at the water.

I have watched the development of this storm for the last couple of days... a very odd storm. It did not begin as most tropical storms/hurricanes have in the last several years (Atlantic depressions/tropical waves that develop as they move across the Atlantic). This one was kind of several smaller storms that just kind of merged then backtracked towards land.

Also - as close as it developed to the coast, it seems rather odd that it is strengthening so much.

I live in Kemah!

Well, then, “DUCK!”

Then again, perhaps not. Flying might be good in any case.

As my nephew asked today, “What would you do if you were caught in a tornado, flood AND a fire at the same time as an earthquake?”

Answer: “Put on my scuba tank so the fire wouldn't hurt me, then swim underwater so the tornado couldn't touch until the tidal wave washed all the water out of the way of the flood, and then walk back to my house ...”

Actually this storm closely resembles Alicia. I remember her!

I HIGHLY recommend the book "Isaac's Storm" by Erik Larson. (In fact, anything written by Erik Larson, is a keeper). He is one freakin fantastic chronicler.

"Galveston, Texas, awakened on September 8, 1900, on its way to becoming the most prosperous city in the nation, brimming with activity, commerce, and confidence. The following morning, it was a city decimated and humbled by nature, its businesses and homes unrecognizable, its hope swept away by what is still the deadliest weather disaster in American history."

I once bought a house in Friendswood from a guy whose daughter was named Alicia (she was conceived when he and his wife were flooded in by the rain). Silver lining in the cloud?

Yes! It is very good. We sat at a table a few months back with a very delightful man who appeared to be in his eighty's, a friend of my boyfriends. I was interduced to him and it was George Pappas the owner operator of all the fine Pappas Restaurants. He keeps his boat near my boyfriends at Lakewood.

“taste like well....like chicken.”

I have a theory about all these things that taste like chicken. Probably are chicken!

You may be onto something there.

I hope this hurricane watch doesn't materialize. I am raised in Baytown, but live in Lufkin. My family is in Baytown. When Rita came through we all thought it was going to go up thru Trinity Bay and it went in west. Here in Lufkin we got the western side of the eyewall....had 119 mph winds. Took out many trees and transformers. Mostly we were lucky. Hope the greater Houston area dodges the bullet again.
