Pacific Gas and Electric Co., California's largest investor-owned utility, has contributed $250,000 to defeat a ballot measure that would ban same-sex marriage in the state, it was announced Tuesday. Businesses often steer clear of ballot measures that deal with social issues for fear of alienating customers. But PG&E officials said the San Francisco-based company's effort to defeat Proposition 8 on the Nov. 4 ballot is consistent with its long-time advocacy of equality for all.

Oh, and lest I be accused of not giving feminists their due in this ring of corruption... D-Ellen Tauscher was involved in this persecution and strongarming of PG&E. She’d just evolved from being a “community organizer” and was appointed to a committee, by Willie Brown, to “investigate” PG&E - while their local activists did simultaneous protests.
Let’s be more specific here: San Francisco Democrats openly, printed in the media, declared they were going to SEIZE PG&E assets in the City. Amos Brown was the most “virulent” and vocal about just “grabbing and seizing control of the substations operated by PG&E. Amos Brown, Mr. Jeremiah Wright of the West, was Willie Brown’s Number 1, when Willie was mayor of SF.
PG&E is the only game in town. We have no choice but to pay them to screw us.
No, there is no other power company. We are totally and completely screwed.
You’re staring in the face of FASCISM, plain and simple.
The government provides a business with a monopoly, and protects that monopoly, as long as that business is doing the “politically correct” (promoting and forcing an agenda on people) thing.
I am proud to report that I called Willie Brown “Bill Clinton’s shoe shiner” during impeachment.
Weird that an electric company would get involved with promoting gay marriage.

Someone needs to TURN OUT THE LIGHTS at PG&E!!!!!!!! Or at the very least give them a major shock!!
PG&E is literally killing people because some Californians cannot afford A/C in summer or heating in winter. This is so infuriating!! Last month our PG&E bill was over $400 - for ONE LOUSY MONTH!! During winter we had one bill for one month that was over $500 - and we are not frivolous, rich people by any stretch.
I feel a FReep comin’ on but for me it will have to be in Fresno because I don’t have time or money to get to San Francisco where the main PG&E culprits hang out but they have an office bldg here in Fresno. We’ll see . . .
That’s a huge bill. I put in a new system last fall (heat pump/ac/heater).
Last summer my bills were in the $300 range, and this summer I haven’t topped $150. I guess you’d say it was worth it.
Yep, that’s fascism alright...
An interesting little group....
Big Businesses Should Pay Their Fair Share June 17th, 2008
CARE for California- Why TURN is demanding that big business pay their fair share
Willie Brown has had several scandals of his own. The first one which hit was he had a boyfriend. This was huge within the bay area circles. A firefighter. The Lavender Lobby had all the details. Then, Willie Brown fathered a baby out of wedlock. I admit, none of it interested me as much as what the Dems were doing to California.
Thank you rockingsranch. I see this is the second thread over the weekend. (weakend?)
Public utilities, especially monopolies, ought not be allowed to contribute to campaigns. People, yes. Utilities, no! Total corruption and it comes out of our pocketbooks.
“No, there is no other power company. We are totally and completely screwed.”
Maybe the citizens can start their own power collective. I’ve seen it done in other states, with lower rates than the big power companies. If there’s laws against having a collective, get rid of the corrupt politicians who are blocking it.
