Rep. John Murtha's disgrace in denouncing the Marines of the Haditha incident is not going to fade away gently into the night. William Russell, has returned from a tour of duty in the military and is running against him. His campaign has produced this video featuring Darryl Sharratt, the father of one of the Marines accused by Murtha of being a "cold-blooded killer." His son Justin Sharratt has subsequently been fully vindicated, and all charges dropped.

Darryl Sharratt's video does not have the produiction values of a normal campaign commercial, but in his own way, this father is eloquent in standing for his son. If the people of Murtha's district can see beyond the pork barrel politics he practices, he should be retired to his ample Congressional pension. The man is a disgrace to his office.

GOOD LUCK!!! You can check with the people from the Johnstown area but I think the Republican party chairman just about endorsed him last time. Take out the University of Pittsburgh satellite campus and Murtha pork is Johnstown. There is nothing left when Murtha goes.

The republican party should guarantee keeping the pork in place as a bribe. Murtha is old and bribery is all that will work.

I havn't seen anything locally about polls(I live nearby the district), so the source you remember could well be outside PA.

I remember during the Diana Irey campaign there was no polling done by any of the media in SW PA on the Murtha-Irey race. I expect the local media will repeat that position this time. The campaign conducted an internal poll in early Oct. which resulted in a 59-41 Split with Irey receiving 41%.

It proved to be accurate as the final vote was roughly 60-40.

Murtha won't bother with polling and Russell may not want to spend the money(polls are expensive, $10,000 or more for the good ones).

If any polling is done, it will most likely involve outside funding by an outside group.

Unfortunately, the first is correct and the 2nd is questionable. The only Democrats who go "after a felony conviction" are ones like Trafficante that the Dems want to be rid of.

Not that I put much stock in polling, but maybe, if neighbors had a clue what each other thought it might bring more voters out. Something to chew on...
