SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Immigrant-advocacy group Casa de Maryland on Monday received a $1.5 million donation from Citgo Petroleum Corp., a subsidiary of Venezuela's national oil company that is controlled by President Hugo Chavez.
The funds will be used to strengthen Casa's $4.4 million social-service, small-business and vocational-training programs... Kim Propeack, advocacy director for the Montgomery County-based organization, said it's the largest corporate gift Casa has received. "Like many nonprofits, Casa has been trying to grow its corporate investment," she said. "Citgo is very committed to ensuring that the profits they earn through their business are shared by low-income people...." A Monday news conference to announce the donation was postponed because of a personal emergency of Citgo President Alejandro Granado, who was to attend with the Venezuelan ambassador. Ms. Propeack said the contribution would still be finalized Monday.

If government regulation was a good thing, the regulation that could seize that money would be a good thing.

Have you never heard of “unbranded gasoline”? Just because you’re not buying gas at a Citgo station (which is almost certainly privately owned) doesn’t mean your money isn’t going to Chavez. And, besides, oil is a fungible commodity. If you don’t buy Venezuelan oil and use some other oil instead — let’s say Canadian — you’re consuming that Canadian oil and freeing up Venezuelan oil. Someone else who would have otherwise bought that Canadian oil will then just buy the Venezuelan oil that you freed up.
Let’s face it: oil’s fungible, and the biggest producers of it tend to be our enemies.

O’Mawley and Ike LeggWarmer are giving Casa $1.9 million.
Chavez is giving them $1.5 million.
So, MoCo is giving them slightly more money than the Bolshevik from Caracas.

A lib at where I worked forwarded a Casa action alert last spring. This was when the in-state tuition for illegals bill was being debated. It had five different form letters to congressmen and newspapers attached to it.
One of them said that "This bill is a step towards ending racism that is still prevalent in our communities. Immigrant students are here. They were brought here by their parents and have worked hard to overcome many obstacles in order to be successful in high school. Now they have the dream of going to college, but even though they have lived in Maryland for years and have gone to school alongside other Maryland residents, they are denied in-state tuition. This is nothing more than an example of lingering racism that we have yet to overcome"
"Yet the barrier that immigrant students face is a repeat of history. These students have the grades, they have the drive, they even live in Maryland and pay taxes. Why should they be denied In-State Tuition? It is time for our country to stop the racism and start thinking logically about how to repair our broken immigration system."
My tax money went to a group that used it to call me a racist for opposing in-state tuition for people who have broken our laws to live here.
