WASHINGTON - House Majority Leader Hoyer Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today:
A smattering of House Republicans are engaging in stunts on the House floor in a transparent political effort to manufacture headlines. Meanwhile, most of their Republican colleagues returned home burdened with trying to explain why they blocked efforts to combat high gas prices. Republicans voted against expanding drilling in Alaska, against promoting renewable energy, against establishing the first new vehicle efficiency standards in 32 years, against repealing taxpayer subsidies for major oil companies that are making record profits, against cracking down on price gouging, and against curbing excessive speculation in energy markets.
For six years, Republicans controlled every branch of government and did nothing while America became more dependent on foreign sources of oil. House Republicans now want to dust off old proposals, rejected by Congress on a bipartisan basis as bad ideas, and claim they have put forward 'solutions'.
"Democrats today are pro-actively offering short-term solutions to high costs at the pump, as well as a long-term strategy to break our dependence on foreign oil. Its a shame Republicans are more interested in playing games than enacting real solutions.

When the Democrat Marxist do things, it's for the good of communist AmeriKa, but when Republicans do things for freedom and liberty, it's a stunt. Got that?

Now wait a second. I remember that a few years ago, Bush wanted to tap into Alaska. Dems have a short term memory.

GOP controlled Congress’ rate of gas price increase is half of that the last two years under the control of the Socialist Party.

If the Democrats’ “solutions” were enforced, we’d soon be paying $6 a gallon for gasoline, our strategic reserve would be depleted, the stock market would be in chaos, and the Democrats would be calling for the nationalization of oil companies. What they desire is power and control, and yet not one of them could run a lemonade stand, much less a multinational corporation.

The conflict between the Republicans and the Democrats pales in comparison with the conflict between the federal government and the American people. But the politicians are playing us against one another so we’ll give our “champion” more power with which to “fight for us.”
I ain’t falling for these con games. The only reason I support this “Texas Tea Party” is because (for a change!) it’s the American people vs. the Congress.

If the GOP really wants some action they should stop hammering on Stretch to come back to the house for a vote.
They should be hammering on their own. ALL of them should be there. Their lack of interest only shows how much they really care about you and me.
So, Congressman Pence, Congressman Boehner, start lashing out at your colleagues that are on their 5 week vacation.
Anything less just looks like a stunt. And, that’s something we don’t want, or need, right now!

I actually looked at my gas log that I have maintained since buying my car in 2004. When the Dems were elected in November ‘06, regular gas was at $239.9/gallon in our valley just north of the San Fernando Valley. When the Dems took office in January of ‘07 it had risen to $243.9/gallon. Two months later it had risen $.54/gallon to cost $307.9/gallon. Our high for regular here was $459.9/gallon. Since GWB lifted the Presidential ban on offshore drilling it has fallen $.60/gallon.....today at $399.9/gallon for regular. I'd love to see a Republican ad touting these statistics!

Spit that out stenny it’s not yours it’s Pelosis

We’d all love to see the GOP touting the statistics you show, however, IMHO, neither party wants prices to drop too far.
If the prices drop too much it will be bad for the Dems as it will be a positive for the sitting GOP president thus a positive for his coat-tail leeches.
If the prices drop too much it will be bad for certain GOP’ers as it will dip into their pockets.

Don't think it will affect GOP’ers pockets as much as Dem's pockets. Obama has received beau coup bucks from the oil companies.

"Maryland continues to posion the country with Hoyer and Pelosi." I live in Maryland. It used to be a good place to live. Now it's circling the drain, just like Mass., California, and other one-party "People's Democratic Republics are."

So do I.
Hoyer’s from the part of Maryland with a shallow gene pool.
And it shows whenever he opens his pie-hole.
