Are you a racist?
;->
“Vista image?”
I have Vista on my laptop. Not sure what this is, though.
buy a MAC....
Are they biker bars or leather bars...
i have a mac also.
Don’t know...while running Vista on my new laptop, I have thought about throwing it out the sliding glass door and off the deck. :)
Try this: position your cursor (the arrow) on your desktop, just on the image, and right-click the mouse. That’ll bring up a menu, and you should choose “Personalize” at the bottom of the menu. When the new window full of choices opens, choose “Desktop Background” - and once that opens, see the 3 choices at the bottom of that new window for “Choose a Desktop Background.” At the bottom, see the “How should picture be positioned?” - and choose the one which fills the entire screen. See if that works.
I think what you are facing is a settings issue with the display monitor. Check the graphics display resolution to see that it matches the hardware resolution.
don’t run vista on your blackberry and don’t post to fr from it either
Ken, there is a place to work on desktop properties. You may still be able to there by right clicking the desktop. Otherwise I’d suggest you access your computer options by hitting start and some reasoned second option.
In the properties area, you can select stretch on the desktop image.
Sorry I can’t be of more help. This is what I did when I fixed my brothers display.
Are you in prison?
Most monitors have adjustments for screen size, usually located somewhere around the bottom part of the frame that surrounds the screen.
Have you tried adjusting these controls?

It's also destroyed your ability to capitalize.
I'd shut it right down if I were you.
Damsel in distress
hasta la vista bebe
Could be both...
nothing humble about you.
Please excuse the damsel thing... I wanted to get SA's attention...
that’s getting tired.
leo laporte addressed that issue recently and most people and corporations are changing their minds about vista.
that lipstick makes you look like a tramp!
thanks for an intelligent reply!
let me look.
Yep, I have, and it stinks.
Seriously, are you trying to display a photo on your desktop and it’s black either side? (If so, maybe someone can help but not me since I don’t have Vista.)
Your caps still aren't registering.
You should fix that quick before someone mistakes you for a texting teen!
You.. DO know how to write properly, right?
Id be grumpy too if I had to put up with vista...
It's been going on for years like that, all the kids are doing it.
I been asked that a gazillion times.
And I refuse to use VISTA.
Apply white-out to the black areas
no.
i have a 2693 hm samsung monitor.
the old pc filled the full 26”.
i purchased a new pc and about 1.5” on either side are
masked off, reducing the image horizontally to about 23”.
i want to use the full screen.
thanks.
sheesh, all the morons crawl out from under rocks.
um, have you heard of the u.s. constitution and free speech?
you act like a feminazi.
There is a rich tradition on FR of making fun of people who post quick little weird questions like yours. Or don't you think humblegunner has free speech?
u ned tu resit the grafix on your vidcard
gto properdies or something likthat...
Nevermind, I got a MAC, it just works.
That's SO cool how you can call names but cannot capitalize.
I wish I could recapture those glory days of Kindergarten like you do.
sheesh, all the morons crawl out from under rocks.
You consider folks who write properly morons?
SWEET!
that was my question.
display resolution of 1920 x 1200If you can get your graphics cards to those settings you should be okay. Unfortunately I can't help any further because (as I said) i don't have Vista.
And I know it won't help to say I went through something similar when I received a 1440x900 monitor to use with my Linux machine. But it works now... Good luck and maybe some Vista-savvy FReeper (GE?) can help you.
thanks for an intelligent reply!
Focus instead upon writing at a third-grade level, Padawan.
thanks.
LoM, have you seen enough of Vista that you might be able to help ken21 out?
Right-click anywhere on the screen, left-click on Personalize, and then on Display Settings (at the bottom). On the window that pops up click on the Monitor tab. It may say something like "Generic PnP Monitor" - if it does, click on the Properties button and on the window that appears there'll be a Driver tab. Try clicking on Update Driver. You'll be given a choice to Search (meaning the Internet, which is a good first option anyway) or Browse My Computer For Driver Software. If you've already downloaded the driver above, point to it and install from there.
That'll take care of the driver. Back to the Control Panel/Personalization/Display Settings tab. There is a setting labeled Resolution with a slide-bar below it. See if one of those works better.
Good luck!
Ken I'll help you as best I can. It's not so hard.
First, shut down or reboot.
when the black screen comes back up, hit escape. This will bring you to the start up menu.
Number 4 will read Start Windows Normally. It usually defaults to this, so just hit enter.
If it doesn't just scroll down to #4 and hit enter.
While this is happening, this immediately run to the bathroom and wrap a shower towel around your head and stick whatever fruit you may have laying around in the folds of the towel.
As soon as your Laptop makes that cute little Vista sound...strip down to your briefs. boxers are better...trust me on this
Just when you think that that all the unnecessary software has loaded...immediately run outside to your neighbors house, ring the bell...and when they answer it...do your best Carmen Miranda dance,...singing
I Got Bars On Vista....I Got Bars On Vista....I Got Bars On Vista....
The people in the approaching vehicle with the flashing red and blue lights will be able to help you.
LOL, I think BtD likely has the better response.
I’m sorry humblegunner isn’t very helpful. He shouldn’t make fun of your inability to capitalize without trying to help you out. There are two shift keys located on your keyboard. One is just to the left of the “z” key, and the other is just to the right of the “/” key. When held down while pressing a letter, they cause the letter you type to be capitalized. That should fix your capitalization problem.
Ever since "widescreens" became popular, I allus wondered how do it know?
Just curious...
You're welcome, and thank you for your kind words :-)
let me look.
I'm noticing that the 2693hm monitor's display setup controls are along the lower edge over on the right hand side, near the power button. If you play around with these a bit, you 'should' be able to find a control that adjusts the width of the screen.
Once you have the screen size at a 'usable' size (you may already, considering that you're able to post here), download the instruction manual for the monitor here
and go to page 32, where it goes into the setup functions.
Hopefully this should walk you through it pretty easily.
