WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Mexican national Jose Ernesto Medellin has been executed by lethal injection, according to Texas prison officials.
Jose Ernesto Medellin was put to death for his part in the gang rape and murder of two Texas girls.
Corrections spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said Medellin died at 9:57 CT.
The U.S. Supreme Court denied the last-ditch appeal of a Mexican national on Texas' death row late Tuesday, paving the way for him to be executed for a pair of brutal slayings, state corrections officials said.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said about 9:15 p.m. that the court had turned down the appeal of Jose Ernesto Medellin.
Medellin's capital appeal was an unusual one that pitted President Bush against his home state in a dispute over federal authority, local sovereignty and foreign treaties.
At issue is an international court's ruling that Medellin and about 50 other Mexicans have been illegally denied access to their home country's consul. Allowing travelers such access when they are arrested abroad is common practice.
At about 7 p.m., an hour after the execution could have taken place, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Corrections said the execution was in a "holding pattern."
The high court in March ruled for Texas, allowing the execution to proceed, but Medellin's lawyers filed a flurry of emergency appeals in state and federal courts, requesting a stay. They argued that Congress and the Texas Legislature should be given a chance to pass legislation that would give their client a new hearing before punishment is carried out.....

Finally. I’ll have a beer in Governor Perry’s honor. Not something I’ve had occasion to do before, frankly. But he stood firm.
The world is a safer place.
They should deport him now...
Excellent. Now ship his carcass back to Mexico, care of the international court.

It is simple really, if you don’t want to be executed, don’t kill people. So simple a caveman could figure it out.
Not until a dozen paragraphs into the story are the names and ages of the victims stated. We know this convict’s middle name before we hear more about the “two girls” whom he raped and murdered. That tells you where CNN’s heart is.
Post of the freaking year!

REMEMBER THE ALAMO!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Huntsville.
Hell, just take him down to the fence and toss him over.
Babelfish’s attempt at translation:
The state of Texas tonight executed to the Mexican criminal Jose Ernesto Medellín, in challenge at your service of the Court the International of Justicia (CIJ) and appeals of the administration of president George W. Bush.
Medellín, whose last words went for asking pardon the relatives of the two young people in whose murder it participated, was declared dead to the 21:57 hours, local time (03: 57 GMT of Thursday).
“I hope that this is the summary that they look for. They never hate to somebody reason why it does. They never lodge odio” , the Mexican asked.
Immediately, Medellín went to its friend Sandra Crisp and it repeated to him: “ I love you, you amo”.
Calm, the Mexican criminal, of 33 years, turned around his face towards the guard of the prison of maximum security in this locality of Texas and he said those to him that would be their last two words: “ He is hora”.
The Supreme Court of the United States rejected east Tuesday the last appeal of Mexican, and so it smoothed the way to his execution, in spite of the order of the Court International of Justice to stop it. “
The request to stop the execution of the death sentence is rechazada” , it considered the Supreme Court.
Texas: Si, Se Puede!
Don't ya just love change?
7 beers sounds good. LOL

"I can't believe you said that...."
What a useless piece of crap. He didn't say he was sorry for his crime, only that he caused pain. Never harbor hate, I like that. Piece of s--t. he can be proud and sanctimonious in hell. Won't even have to wait in line. Buenos nochas, f----r.

In Texas we have the death penalty and we...USE IT!
His parents plotted to break him out of jail.
I guess when you ignore the laws of America coming in, you can pick and choose ALL of the laws you want to obey.

And another of the gang bangers has already been execute (2006) and another one is on death row. 2 more have life in prison (they were aged 17 at the time) and one more has a 40 year sentence.
Gang bang rape and double murder of two teenaged girls.
The gang members have been shown much more sympathy and caution than their victims ever were. The man who was executed tonight was caught within days and boasted to the cops of his brutal actions.
Oh please... I guess your useless cousin shouldn't have killed those too girls then, you piece of...oh man this story and these people make me want to puke.
Gotta love it! God bless the State of TEXAS!
The death penalty in this case is not “racist”. The thug was hispanic and raped and murdered two hispanic girls.
It isn’t xenophobic either because other participants (who aparently did NOT have the citizenship status of this man) were also sentenced to death for their role in the rapes and murders.
Let the maker deal with this animal. Ship his body back to Mexico, first class, and deduct the cost from our ‘foreign aid’ to that nation.
gee, with all those nabobs saying piss on the victims you’d of thought they’d held off a little longer.
Here's another idea...just sling his lifeless body up onto the top of our new border wall with Mexico to rot in the the Sun as a warning to others coming here illegally.
Oh, I forgot...we don't have a border fence...never mind. /s
Adios, scumbag. Next!
Excellent!

What the U.S. government wants in the Medellin murder case, now being heard before the U.S. Supreme Court, is “bizarrely grotesque,” according to the chief counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund.
And the warning from ADF Chief Counsel Benjamin Bull notes that the case, being pursued by President Bush through the Department of Justice, could result in U.S. laws being subjugated to U.N. resolutions and rules to the point that local police officers will have to spend more time studying international law than catching criminals.
“The notion that an international body can Mirandize the right of an illegal immigrant to call a consulate, so that if the local police trip up and innocently don’t to it, a convicted rapist-torturer-murderer goes free, goes beyond bizarrely grotesque,” Bull, whose organization has filed an amicus brief on the issue, told WND.
Jose Medellin
At issue is the death penalty verdict for Jose Medellin, who confessed in 1993 to participating in the rape and murder of two Houston teenagers. Jennifer Ertman and Elizabeth Pena were sodomized and strangled with their shoe laces. Medellin then boasted of keeping one girl’s Mickey Mouse watch as a souvenir of the crime.
The Bush administration is before the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to overturn the death penalty, at the behest of the International Court of Justice, a division of the United Nations.
Medellin and four others were convicted of capital murder and sent to Texas’ death row. A juvenile court sentenced Medellin’s younger brother, who was 14 at the time, to 40 years in prison.
