A Mexican-born convicted rapist and murderer was executed Tuesday. Jose Medellin was killed by lethal injection in a Texas prison for the rape, torture and murder of 16-year-old Elizabeth Pena and 14-year-old Jennifer Ertman.
Im sorry my actions caused you pain. I hope this brings you the closure that you seek. Never harbor hate, Medellin said to the group who had gathered to watch him die. He was pronounced dead at 9:57 p.m.
Medellin, 33, was convicted in the 1993 gang rape, beating and murder of Pena and Ertman. He and five fellow gang members attacked the girls as they walked home one night. The girls were raped and tortured for an hour before they were strangled with belts and shoelaces.
Four days after the attack, Pena and Ertmans bodies were found.
Medellins execution attracted attention after he claimed he was not allowed to seek legal help from the Mexican consulate. The Vienna Convention protects those arrested to have access to their countrys consular officials.
Penas father Adolfo was among those who watched Medellin die. We feel relieved. Fifteen years is a long time coming, he said.

I hear it’s hot in Hell this time of the year.
Booo Hoooo!
California should start outsourcing their death row inmates to Texas. Would sure speed up the process.
RUH ROH: Sanctions coming from the UN!!!!!!!!!!
TO allow this piece of human feces to die in his sleep, instead of fear and panic of electrocution or gas, is a travesty to the parents of the dead girl.
Jose Medellin should have had the same feelings of fear and despair he heaped upon the girls and parents.
He got off easy.
God Bless Texas.
Now ship that bastard HOME.
It took 15 years to kill this filthy dog after what he did to those girls, and the article says his case gained attention because he (allegedly) wasn’t allowed to call the Mexican consulate. I have no printable words.
Nah, the UN never imposes sanctions on anyone. If Iran can build nuclear weapons and not face UN sanctions we should be able to put a dirt bag to sleep without too much worry. The Russians and Chinese will stop the. Won't they???
I couldn’t agree more.
Even the Hot Squat would be too easy after what he did to those poor kids.
Funny....they want to come to America...and want American benefits....but when they commit a capital offense and about ready to be executed...they become Mexicans again.
I guess Medellin, the UN, Beijing Bush (or is that Guadalajara George) can chalk this one in the “loss” column
I congratulate the author of this article. In the first sentence the names and ages of the two victims were mentioned, the innocent and terribly wronged individuals in all of this. A previous CNN post took twelve paragraphs before mentioning who the “two girls” were and their ages. We knew Mr. Medellin’s middle name before the CNN article mentioned the names of his victims. So somewhere there is a journalist who “gets it.”

Don’t worry; Hell is a real place of torment, not a fairy tale. He’s getting what he deserves. And it’s FOREVER.
My hat is off to Texas this morning. Yesterday evening about 9:30 p.m. C.D.T., justice was spelled T-E-X-A-S.
I don’t think they should get any last words. Who is (was) this creep to lecture people before he died? I think they should have hanged him. And I’m talking slow dangle, not quick drop.
I specifically searched for and selected an article that did not spin the execution.
Texas - We do executions right
(A Mexican-born convicted rapist and murderer was executed Tuesday)
Don’t care if the scumbag was born on the moon. This is what should be done with all rapist /murderers....
YAY! Score one for the Good Guys!!
reminds me of a FarSide cartoon...
Two guys walking together through hell with satan perched on a ledge as they stroll through the firey scene, each holding a coffe mug in their hands.
One is talking to the other; “He thought of everything. Even the coffee is cold”
As to the perp’s lectures to the rest of us, Go to Hell; and I suspect he did just that.
Hope it makes the top of the fold in manana’s newpaper all over mexico
It’s even better than that. He didn’t even ask to call the Mexican Consulate. If he’d asked, he would have been allowed to. He was not denied his call.
In fact, he didn’t even bring this up until AFTER he was convicted. Nice, huh?
Good riddance. In Texas, “death” means death. Period.
Screw you bud. I hate your guts and the guts of the rest of the gangsters that have been allowed to cross our borders and kill our people.
He’ll get his last words because if he didn’t get them someone would sue for deprivation of rights.
I don’t mind. He can say whatever he likes. He’s still going to be dead at the end of the day.
He and five fellow gang members attacked the girls as they walked home one night.

What happened to the other 5? did they get the needle too?
And from an almost-too-low tree.
Florida ain’t to shabby at executions either.
The ones we caught are among the next on the list to meet Old Pointy.

NOW NOW! Jesus said: “Love the sinner, hate the sin”
I personally would rather “Love the sinner” from the “other side of the boarder” and one “with a very high wall!!” (ie keep these people over there so they don’t kill our kids)
If I recall correctly, one has already gotten the needle, one is scheduled to, and two others were sentenced to die but are under life sentences because they were under 18 at the time of the crime.
That’s four; I don’t know about the fifth.
Wow, you wrote what I was thinking. And my next thought was how I have to try to be a better Christian everyday. Thanks!
From what I read, the fifth got 40 years.

Excellent! I needed a nice, feel-good type of story today.
Actually it is even worse than that.
He wasn't prevented from calling the Mexican Consulate, he just wasn't told that he could.
Don’t mess with Texas! Now if PA could just grow some cajones and send Mumia Abu Jamal down to fry alongside Jose Medellin, I’d be a much happier camper!
Excellent advice. If he'd taken it fifteen years ago he wouldn't have raped, tortured, and murdered the two young girls he somehow forgot to mention.
This is good to hear. We’re planning to move to Texas this fall, and I can appreciate a place where killers get justiced out of existence.
I hope they update his penpal website to reflect his new address...HELL.

This trash got to live 15 years after his crime. That in of itself is a crime.
Truly good news. Not only for justice, but for state’s rights over federal and UN meddling.
F#ck the UN.
Shrink the feds back to DC.
That is correct. IIRC he was too young to be prosecuted as an adult. 40 yrs. was the longest possible sentence as a juvenile so he got the max.
Why in the world does it take so long to execute these animals?
Not voting for McCain is voting for Obama
The fifth was 14 at the time...the late Medellin’s little brother...
He is serving 40 years
...Never harbor hate, Medellin said...

Excellent point! Too bad some people learn that lesson way too late!
Someone should update his mailing address.
CNN keeps repeating that lie. Neither the defendants nor their lawyers were prohibited from contacting the Mexican consolate. They never requested any contact with the Mexican consolate. They only made an issue of this in the automatic death penalty appeal. How are the police even supposed to know that a prisoner is a foreign national if that person does not volunteer that information? There are lots of US citizens in Texas who speak Spanish better than English, and there are some localities that prohibit the police from calling ICE to determine the immigration of prisoners in custody. If they aren't allowed to find out that information, how the hell are they supposed to know that a prisoner is a foreign national?
