Report: Exxon Execs Gave More to Obama (Obama in the tank for "Big Oil")

The Democratic National Committee may be trying to get some mileage out of recent news about oil industry contributions to Republican Sen. John McCain, launching a web site spoofing the idea of McCain sharing his presidential ticket with Exxon. But they may have found an unwelcome surprise in a just-released analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics.
Turns out, the biggest recipient of contributions from Exxon executives and employees during this campaign is not McCain. It's Obama.
The non-partisan center writes: "Through June, Exxon employees have given Obama $42,100 to McCain's $35,166. Chevron favors Obama $35,157 to $28,500, and Obama edges out McCain with BP $16,046 vs. $11,500."

Well. I wish I could say that I’m shocked, but that would be a lie.

I must give credit to the Washington Post. They are one of the few MSM outlets who aren’t giving this clown a free ride. Good for them.

Obama means higher prices for oil = higher margins for big oil.

Limiting the sources of oil means less work to make more money?
To: the anti-liberal
Big Oil doesn’t. But you count all the clowns who work in the mail room and in personnel, and you have a whole bunch of people who aren’t oil executives at all.
Plus, just about every geologist I know is some sort of a hippie liberal. It’s weird.

liberals are everywhere
Even when a candidate represents a direct mortal threat to their own form of livelihood, displaying tremendous ignorance and ‘audacity’ in mutilating the facts about energy policy, they happily support him in the name of “the cause”

Lessee now if I got this straight....This guy Obama wants to be President of the United States, and he has 300 advisors, etc., but nobody in HIS organization could think to do any homework about Oil Company Employees’ contributions before trying to bust McCain’s chops.
OK, I think I got it.

If the congress lifts the ban on offshore it will allow competition from small drilling companies to compete for the leases thus putting more money and oil in the market,
squeezing some of the bigger companies and their shareholders. Competition is good and it helps lower prices but like any big company they don't want competition.

I don't blame them.
Bill Gates said he didn't do political donations (to Dems or
Pubs)...
and he got dragged to court to punish him for "not playing ball".
Better to placate those who might end up running The Department
of Justice well ahead of time!

No, they are realists. Contributions give them access and they are hedging their bets about an Obama win.

Large corporations always try to back a winner. These percentages pretty much mirror the early polls.
If McCain takes a lead in the polls, he’ll take a lead in corporate contributions as well. It’s just the cost of doing business!

You’d think so but I doubt if they will. There seems to be so many opportunities to exploit facts like these and they’re dropped. I just don’t understand tactics I guess.
To: tobyhill
The unspoken truth is that big oil owns BOTH of them (to the extent that less than $50K buys a candidate in a $100M campaign).
As to why, I believe that BO will allow offshore drilling if he wins the election, just like McCain will. He has already waffled on the issue, and after November he will complete the treachery to his moonbat base.
Big oil seems very interested in ANWR, although it can't be cheap to produce and transport crude from there. Do you think Chavez, Nigerian rebels, etc. convinced them to move to a less theatening environment?

These are oil company employee contributions, not from the corporations themselves.
What's remarkable is how piddly they are. What's the maximum donation from an individual, $2,300?
20 employees from Exxon could have contributed that much to Obama out of a workforce of over 100,000.

[snip] The liberal group is up with ads against six House Republicans attacking them for their support of offshore drilling. Problem is: most of the targets represent energy-rich districts where drilling is viewed favorably, to put it mildly. [end]
