oh would you look at that. I might need to get my eyes checked but I could swear one of the only non-yellow highlighted oil pipelines run through (drum roll) Georgia.
YOu don’t think this orchestrated attack by Russia has anything with them wanting to monopolize all energy exports to europe and the west to use as a political blackmail weapon? Nahhh. What am I thinking. Bush looked into Putin’s soul and saw a nice lovable guy.

I’m going to throw this out there - Hillary is going to take a tougher stance on Georgia than Obama, and it will lead to his further decline pre-convention. We’ll see.

A mention of key oil supply routes to the west and oil speculation will go crazy.

The UN is meaningless in this crisis, although they will try to act official.

And this could escalate into a major war not related to muzlims, a war we should be very concerned about.

How do we help Georgia keep her independence and territorial integrity?

In December 1966, when John McCain requested his first combat assignment in Vietnam, Barack Obama turned 5 years old and was enjoying the freedoms a child should enjoy.

As Obama turned 7, McCain had survived a burning jet fire on the USS Forrestal and had just flown his 23rd bombing mission over communist North Vietnam.

In 1973, as Obama reached age 12, McCain was finally released from a prisoner-of-war camp in the Hanoi Hilton.

At age 15, when Obama was still in high school, McCain became the commanding officer of a Naval Training Squadron in Florida. He turned a poorly managed military unit into a distinguished, combat-ready team.

When Obama reached the legal age of 21 and was experimenting with pot and cocaine, McCain declined an admiral promotion and ran for and was elected to Congress.

By 1987, Obama was a young man of 25 and McCain had assumed the office of senator from Arizona (after a successful four-year tour in the U.S. House of Representatives).

At age 36, Obama looked on as Sen. McCain was named one of Time magazine’s 25 most influential people in America.

Whom do we choose as our next leader? Do we choose a man with proven military and political achievements, or a man with little experience other than a stint as a community leader and junior senator? Decisions, decisions!

I doubt if there is anything we can do beyond the usual diplomatic rhetoric.

But those people have had a taste of freedom and may bring on a large hurt on Russia. But they will be unable to sustain any military action without outside help. Unfortunately most nations will be reluctant to act against Russia, knowing russia is still a military power far better equipped than most nations, including a large nuke inventory.

Looks like McCain should put out a 3AM add a la Hillary and throw in the fact Obama is on a beach.

Barry and Jesse should just go over there and have a sit-down -— poof -— problem solved.

The Russians are following tried and true tactics. Destroy your enemies air force on the ground first. Then hit them with everything you got, the harder the better. Don’t bother with civilians until the fighting stops.
My predictions, The Russians will not stop until the whole province is under Russian Control. Then they will sit down to met with the Georgians and make peace with a smaller Georgia.
Once in the Russian will never leave—as they have the support of the population in the break away territory (where many are Russian Citizens) it should be easy to occupy the place once the fighting is done.

Berry and Jessie would give the Russians a belly laugh. Maybe they could do a comedy act—that would have a better chance of getting the Russians to behave like civilized people than all the fine speeches Obama could say.

Ah, I see AP has finally gotten their talking points from Moscow.

The timing of this is just way too convenient for me to think that the Russkies didn't have it planned way in advance.

I hope the Georgians kick the living cr@p out of them.

I can just hear Obama on the news tomorrow :

"I'll do the right thing and negotiate with the Russians. I know how to handle the Georgia problem. Afterall, I've personally been to Atlanta at least 4 times for NAACP meetings and even had a layover at the airport there a couple of times. How many times can John McCain say he's been to Georgia NAACP meeting? Yes we can."

Highly doubt it. Just saw Putin and our illustrious president sitting close to each other and laughing it up at the Olympic opening ceremony.

Looks like McCain should put out a 3AM add a la Hillary and throw in the fact Obama is on a beach.

I can see ads where BHO and Michelle are cavorting on a Hawaiian beach interspersed with the eventual horrific war photos from Georgia. However, the war could move faster than that, escalate and the reality will be worse than any political advertisement.

Regards,

TS

Yep, think that’d be the one. With plans to construct more gateway capacity for oil and natural gas.

This is a very big deal. Region is a critical energy bypass around Putin’s Russia...and they know it.

South Ossetia voted for independence in a 2006 referendum. What doesn't Georgia recognize this? Two principles collide here: the principle of self-sovereignty and the fundamental principle of the territorial integrity of a nation. South Ossetia is a part of Georgia, and that needs to be respected. The case of Kosovo is not really an appropriate analogy: the right to self-sovereignty played the decisive role there, but the charges of ethnic cleansing were also recognized on an international level. That's not the case in South Ossetia. So for this reason, the territorial integrity of Georgia takes precedence.

Very good. Same reason the Confederacy was not allowed to stand. Same reason that California cannot secede. Too bad about that one.

I am curious as to which European antions will respond and what their response would be; this is, afterall, in their backyard.
