I don’t think that this will prevent him from voting for Obama in November though. That’s one of the benefits of being a registered DemocRAT.

His actions, along with the traitors in Congress at the time, probably did more harm to Vietnam, the Vietnamese people, Cambodia, Laos than can be imagined. All of those people have the blood of 2.5 million Southeast Asians on their hands and souls.

On the bright side Russo did help expose the lies and crimes of LBJ.

And he did open up the door of Freedom of the Press just a little bit further.

That’s a great post. Some of the younger folks here may wonder why so many of us who lived through that era are so bitter about this guy. It’s one of those, “You had to be there.” things.

AMEN!

The Marxist/Stalinist Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge would never have been free to commit the genocidal slaughter of 2,000,000 Cambodians without their liberal enablers in the USA.

American leftists haven't learned a thing from the millions and millions killed in the name of Communism and Socialism in the last 90 years. They are always ready to help give it one more chance.

Years ago, I read that what really pee-oed the CIA about the New York Times publishing the Pentagon Papers was that it tipped-off the Ruskies to the fact that Khruschev’s chauffer was a CIA agent. Of course, the Ruskies tortured and executed the man. Is there any truth to that story?

Just when you start to think that all the news is bad, a little ray of sunshine appears: one less commie in the world.

Reading the full Times story, which I have a feeling most of the posters have so far not done, reinforces my long-held suspicion that certain government officials, as well as their contractor buddies, would rather see American troops killed in needless conflicts than tell the honest-to-gosh truth about what passes for foreign policy.

Is anyone here familiar with this episode, and can anyone refute it?

During one conversation with Ellsberg, he learned of a secret study commissioned by Defense Secretary Robert McNamara that chronicled the origins of the war. Ellsberg said that it showed that the U.S. had falsely charged North Vietnam with an act of unprovoked aggression in the Gulf of Tonkin, the basis for President Lyndon B. Johnson's broadening of U.S. involvement in the war in 1964.

Russo said that when he heard about the fabrication of the Gulf of Tonkin incident, he urged Ellsberg to "turn that over to the newspapers."
