Theory Suggests Caylee Anthony Drowned In Family Pool
wftv ^ | 8/8/08

Posted on 08/09/2008 2:48:09 PM PDT by freespirited

Eyewitness News got details Friday of a working theory held by investigators that little Caylee may have drowned in the family swimming pool. A source close to the investigation revealed only to Channel 9 a working theory of the crime involving Caylee drowning and what may have happened next.

The source said some investigators believe a flurry of phone calls from Casey to her parents on June 16 could be an indication that whatever happened to Caylee happened that day. On that day, Casey and Caylee were last seen together by Caylee's grandfather George at the Anthony family home where they lived.

Caylee Marie Anthony loved the water and some investigators are considering whether that has something to do with her disappearance.

The theory is based on the following facts.

Fact #1: Casey Anthony's phone records show a flurry of unanswered phone calls to her parents on June 16.

Some believe that could be because that's when something happened to Caylee. A possibility being considered is Caylee could've gotten into the backyard pool on her own and was discovered too late.

Fact #2: Eyewitness News was told the Anthony family was careful to keep a ladder near the pool safe from Caylee, but that around the time of her disappearance the ladder was up.

"Boy, how she can just figure things out. We, of course, as every family would, we've had to childproof everything and she's smart enough to take it off," Lee Anthony said.

Fact #3: A neighbor says, right around the time Caylee disappeared, Casey had backed the car up to the garage, which the neighbor said was unusual, and borrowed a shovel for about an hour.

Fact #4: The car was later found abandoned at the Amscot at Goldenrod and Colonial and was towed. When Casey's parents found out and got it back weeks later, Caylee's disappearance began to unravel. Caylee's grandmother called 911 and made a frantic plea for help.

"There's something's wrong! I found my daughter's car today and it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car!" Cindy Anthony said in the call.

Fact #5: Investigators said they found evidence in the car that indicated Cindy Anthony's statement was true and the FBI is testing it to verify that.

"The first 24, 48 hours I had the 'what if, what if, what if.' I also went over all of it with the sheriff's department. Sgt. Allen can tell you that I sat down with him and talked about different things. He made me feel a lot better when they examined the pool, around the pool area, because, to me, that would be the riskiest place that something could have happened," Cindy Anthony said Friday afternoon in response to the theory.

This is not the only theory investigators are considering, it's only one of them. They're still hoping to find Caylee alive.

Channel 9 has also learned that new technology is being used to try to find out if in fact there was a dead body in Casey's car. A new lab test is being used on a sample from a stain found in the trunk of the car. A new device tests gases emitted from the stain to determine whether there's evidence of decomposition.

I suppose this makes sense, except that the mother's affect isn't what you'd expect if she had lost her child to a tragic accident.

I don’t care how long the child might have been under...I would think most mothers would call 911 and start CPR. This theory has a lot of holes.

The mother acts more like it was not an accident. That whole family seems strange.

why wouldn’t there be any dna in the pool?

why wouldn’t Casey get help? She is so dependent on others that would be her first reaction.

I think the mother knows what happened but there is more to this than a pool drowning...although there are no toher indications so far of foul play at the home. she may have gotten the shovel to bury her wherever she was killed.

I really can’t understand the grandmother...maybe its denial, but she sure switched gears.

If it was an accident why wouldn’t she just call 911? Sadly children do fall into pools or water & drown. If the child died by accident why would the mother hide it? This is one strange case IMO. Prayers for Caylee.

Yes, a very very strange family.

what grandmother would not be curious about where her grandchild was for over a month if they were in such close contact. Its not like the child lived in Arizona and the grandparents in Florida.

Even if it was too late, you'd think she would have just called 911 and sobbed to the police, because what is the use of such a coverup?

Possibly the mother was drunk, passed out or gone when it happened and she felt that she would be blamed for the death?

Even so, the failure to report a missing child for a month was bound to paint her as guilty.

******....the mother’s affect isn’t what you’d expect if she had lost her child to a tragic accident.***

It may be that she has reacted this way, all her life, to carelessness. After the shock of a fatal accident and failing to reach her parents by phone...she must have gone totally insane and began planning a story to place the blame on someone else.

She chose a phony babysitter - much like Susan Smith chose a carjacker.

It’s possible - after disposing of Caylee’s body - she never wanted to ever face the fact that Caylee is dead. In her own demented way she will never have to *face the music*, from her family or law enforcement.

JMHO

If it was an accident why wouldn’t she just call 911?

That's the logical thing to do. I have given up on expecting the mother to do anything logical.

But I do look at her affect, which is why I have thought that whatever happened was more likely than not intentional.

what if someone else killed the child and the mother is afraid of retribution...but even then, her affect and behaviors don’t match that either.

That is a ludicrous theory. This happens every day somewhere in the US (a toddler drowning or near-drowning). Even the most incompetent parent knows to call 911 immediately and get their child out of the water.

I am sick of the continuing lies by this whole sociopathic family—Casey, her mother, her father, and her brother.

The father, being a cop, knows how to throw out all the red herrings and lead the police away from the truth.

I am sick and tired of unfit mothers getting to kill their babies, intentionally or accidentally, and then avoiding the consequences by leading authorities on a merry chase. At taxpayer expense.

This evi Casey person is another Patsy Ramsey, who wrote the book on how to lie your way out of a murder rap.

She left the kid in the car in the hot Floriduh sun or kicked her down some stairs in a drunken/meth-induced rage. She might have grieved for all of 2 or 3 minutes when she realized what she had one - but probably not. Then she was free to do some serious partying. That kid really cut into her partying lifestyle and was a drag on the good times.

She has gotten away with every sort of sin/felony/misdemeanor/crime her whole life and skipped off into the sunset happy as a lark. All she had to do was keep on lying.

She will skip off into the sunset this time too. She is a psychopath and will lie until she dies. They will not find a body and she will never tell the truth.

Mom and family are trying to save her now, so there will be no more help or leads from that quarter.

There's incompetence and there's borderline personality disorder ~ and you combine that with stress (like might happen with drowning your little kid) and you could get behavior like this.

In fact, I think you can count on such behavior.

I am thinking there was an on-going debate in the family about Casey’s irresponsibility and lack of independence. Possibly, it came to a head that day and there was a huge argument. The parents left for work, and something happened to Caylee. They thought Casey left with Caylee and that is why the parents were not alarmed for several weeks as to her absence, they thought it was Casey’s way of punishing them.

Swimming pools have treated water, mostly chlorine. Chlorine would negatively affect DNA. I believe it breaks it down somehow.

The mother acts as if it was a NEGLIGENT accident and is guilty. Granny acts as if she found that out from her daughter after the initial 911 calls and now thinks "Well, my daughter didn't do it on purpose so why should she go to prison..."

Thanks for the link; so Casey was fired from Universal Studios 4-24-06! So her family has believed Casey was going to work for over 2 years and there was no job. Where did she really go each day she was supposedly working? Was grandma normally the babysitter during this time or did she drag the poor kid with her?

Numerous lies to be sure.

This is exactly what I think happened. The Grandmother had mentioned to police that she thought it was strange that the ladder was left to the pool the day the baby dissappeared according to one of the detectives on TV because they alway put it up. I wonder if she was inside on the phone or both taking a nap and the baby decided to climb up the ladder? Why you would dump a body after an accident though is what gets me?

One has only to listen to the Mom to understand the relationhip between Mom and daughter.

Maybe Casey took Caylee for a swim in the pool, forgot to take the ladder off. took the girl in. put her down for a nap, and got busy on the phone, or fell aleep herself.

Caylee may have gotten up, went up the ladder and drowned. Casey found her too late.

Casey knew her Mom was anal retentive and would never forgive her for not removing the ladder. A mistake that resulted in Caylees death. I kind of see it that Casey has removed herself from blame or grief, Caylee is gone and now she has to go on. Look at how Grandma has made it known that she wants no teddy bears if they have a whiff of smoke on them. Wow, ain’t that nice. All she had to do was pitch them and keep her snotty mouth shut.

I see a very controlling, perfectionist, liberal type grandma. Grandma is always right. Probably a very explosive relationship between mom and daughter. Casey does not want to displease her mom. Thats why she concocted a story to cover the tragedy. This girl has probably been lying her whole life. She knows if she can come up with any story that still makes MOM and her look good, alls well.

The Grandma here is probably a nice woman, but a perfectionist, do gooder that her daughter could never live up to.

Best guess? The Grandma had no idea, and Casey never would have told her about anything in her life. Mom already knew she had Caylee out of wedlock. Nuff said.

Uh, the Ramsey's were exonerated by DNA evidence. No proof that they were the killers.

The fact that "other" DNA was found on Jon Benet's underpants does NOT prove their innocence. It simply shows that there was a person involved who was not them.

This could mean the other, alone, is reponsible. It could mean the other and mom are responsible. It could mean the other and dad are responsible.

Susan Smith deliberately murdered her children then concocted a story that made her the center of attention and an object of pity and sympathy.
In this case, the mother hid the child’s “disappearance” and only later makes some cryptic remarks and lame lies. I think either she or an acquaintance killed the child, perhaps accidentally, and she then did nothing (other than possibly assisting in disposing the body) for weeks as if hoping it would magically go away.
Very different personalities and cases.

and why would he let the mother wash the childs clothes after they got the car back and the child was missing and they already thought maybe something had happened to the child? If I had been the grandparents I would have been hysterical when my daughter could not bring the child forth when I was worried about her whereabouts?

Casey left the house for a month with Caylee but would call on the phone every day. The grandmother would always ask to speak to Caylee and Casey would give her an excuse why she couldnt put her on the phone (she’s napping, she’s with the sitter, etc).

When Casey finally came home without the baby, grandmother demanded to know what was going on. As soon as Casey said Caylee was missing the grandmother called 911.

Most people her may not know what you mean by ‘borderline’.

It is the proper technical medical term for what regular people like you and I would call a ‘psychopath’.

The term psychopath is just too politically incorrect, so they give it the oh-so-nice sounding ‘borderline personality disorder’ or BPS.

It is pretty much the worst thing you can be. When you hear ‘borderline’ think ‘dangerous psychopath’

If the mother here was still telling gramma and grampa she was still going to work 2 years after being fired she is a dangerous psyhopath (or to be polite she has ‘Borderline personality disorder’)

I think the "borderline personality disorder" was around before "psychopath" caught on. They list both.

One of them is allowed to walk the streets ~ they drink a lot, use drugs, create trouble for others, but usually don't do more than disobey orders and rules. The other kind get elected to office.

Exactly. Her mother did not know for sure where she and Caylee were sleeping at night, but knew Casey was alive because of the daily phone calls. I guess she just assumed that Casey wanted to spend a lot of time with her new boyfriend and didnt think much of her living away from home for a month. But IIRC it has been confirmed that Casey was with the boyfriend.

They were never declared “not guilty” in a court of law.

The DNA evidence was too degraded to prove anything.

Many questions remain, among them which parent did the killing and which parent devised the cover-up.

I find your theory interesting. It's as reasonable, or more so, than anything I've heard so far.
