Neat site.
Exactly.
Nobody wants to see us get involved in the Russia/Georgia war.
This points up that we live in a dangerous world, and Russia can still be a trouble maker. I don’t know all the ins and outs of this situation. But, Russia still has a strong military.
At the end of the cold war and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the liberals said we should get a “peace dividend” and that we could spent far less on national defese now that the big threat in the world was gone.
They thought that Russia would naturally evolve into a capitalist parliamentary democracy. But Russia is still a threat in some ways. And it’s not certain that Russia will become a parliamentary democracy. Their elections are suspect. And their form of capitalism resembles mafia style business cartels rather than the free and open market capitalism that we are used to.
Now Russia will bleed. I hope you Russkie bastards are happy to give your lives up for the KGB scum who enslaved your people for decades.
Here ya’ go.
Oh really? Georgia is our ally, that has access to the mideast oil through its pipelines, is a democratic ( mostly christian) nation that is near the mideast and russia that we have been working on getting bases there.
and then what next? the Ukraine is not worth a war? Poland not worth it?
yeah, lets just be real real real quiet and maybe Russia will just be nice to Georgia and just play nice.
guess I disagree. Excuse the intensity.
You have made a very articulate comment, summed it all up. Expressed what borught us to this well. and now we have to clean up the Libs mess.AGAIN.
From the Sino-Russian Joint Statement of April 23, 1997:
"The two sides [China and Russia] shall, in the spirit of partnership, strive to promote the multipolarization of the world and the establishment of a new international order."

Russia, China flex muscles in joint war games
Reuters: Aug 17, 2007
CHEBARKUL, Russia (Reuters) - Russia and China staged their biggest joint exercises on Friday but denied this show of military prowess could lead to the formation of a counterweight to NATO.
"Today's exercises are another step towards strengthening the relations between our countries, a step towards strengthening international peace and security, and first and foremost, the security of our peoples," Putin said.
Fighter jets swooped overhead, commandos jumped from helicopters on to rooftops and the boom of artillery shells shook the firing range in Russia's Ural mountains as two of the largest armies in the world were put through their paces.
The exercises take place against a backdrop of mounting rivalry between the West, and Russia and China for influence over Central Asia, a strategic region that has huge oil, gas and mineral resources.
Russia's growing assertiveness is also causing jitters in the West. Putin announced at the firing range that Russia was resuming Soviet-era sorties by its strategic bomber aircraft near NATO airspace.

The domino theory ain't new and its certainly not applicable in this situation.
If Ukraine gets involved, all bets are off.
The reality is we can’t (and shouldn’t) support our ally here. Unfortunate but true.
If the EU, Africa or South America wants to declare war on Russia, they can have at it. Canada also.
I wonder if Putin has our Democrats all lined up yet, Stalin style of useful idiots.

THE gEORGIANS did not miscalculate. How long do you wait while the russians are firing missles and creating turmoil and then lie to the whole world to cover their nefarious ambition?
BTW, if georgia had waited till Obama gets in they NEVER would have made it into Nato. I think the Georgians held off as long as they could and were still holding off, russia decided now was the time to strike and roll in and it wouldn’t have mattered if Georgia had set tea out for them in Ossetia.
You may be right.
We can still support the Georgians as much as possible.
Bout time someone from our administration said something!
This chance of war with Russia is scary business, but he is right, it cannot go unanswered. Just like Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait could not go unanswered.
It also explains the visible argument between he and Putin Friday.
The question is....what to do.
