WASHINGTON U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) helped draft and signed on to a bipartisan energy proposal that enables our nation become more energy independent.
The proposal, New Energy Reform Act of 2008 from the group dubbed the Gang of 10, contains provisions on offshore drilling, spent nuclear fuel recycling, promotes new technologies and conservation, and requires the oil companies to pay fair market prices for oil leases and drilling rights.
There is no greater problem facing average Americans and small business today than high fuel costs and our nations dependency on foreign oil, said Graham. Our proposal is not perfect, but it is a bipartisan start on the road to a comprehensive energy strategy leading our nation to independence from foreign oil. It will create new jobs from new technologies good for American wallets and our environment. I am proud to be part of this bipartisan effort to address this serious problem.

Chambliss, Isakson Unveil Bipartisan Plan to Reduce Energy Prices
Includes Domestic Exploration, Conservation, Consumer Tax Credits
WASHINGTON At a news conference on Capitol Hill today, U.S. Senators Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., and Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., joined a bipartisan coalition informally known as the Gang of 10 in unveiling a sweeping energy proposal to reduce gas prices, lessen our nations dependence on foreign oil, and strengthen Americas economy.
The comprehensive New Energy Reform Act of 2008 better known as the New Era calls for a focused effort to transition the nations motor vehicle fleets to fuels other than gasoline and diesel. To ease gas prices in the interim, the proposal includes significant conservation provisions, consumer tax credits, and responsible measures to increase domestic production.

And so the Republican Five has potentially given antidrilling Democrats the political cover they need to neutralize energy through November. Sen. Obama was thrilled. He quickly praised the Gang's bipartisan spirit, and warmed up to a possible compromise. Of course, he means removing even the token drilling provisions now in the [Senate] bill.
The effeminate gentleman from South Carolina ping.

Bump for Monday morning phone calls.
These people are beyond disgusting. Worse than the Dems IMO.
They sold out for their own political gain undermining the hard work of John Boehner and others. They disgust me.
AKA as the Five Stooges, as so aptly described by Ms. Strassel.
Thanks for compiling this.
I hope y’all heard Saxby on Rush’s show stumbling around.
Unfrotunateky, Rush didn’t have enough time to nail him to the wall, but he did ask some “difficult” questions.\
BUMP!
FReeper checkers has been calling Pandsey der F(r)agmeister. The shoe fits!
Lindsey Ping
"Republican by day, Democrat by night."
Heard it, or some of it. Wasn't convinced.
I don’t understand what their “personal gain” could possibly be from this. They are from Conservative Sates.
Why did John McCain sit by and let Lady Lindsey do this? It hurts his campaign.
The Obama Republicans, legislating to make Obama proud.
This outta get everyone in Freepville fired up for the week, from;

What they did was throw every vulnerable Democrat, and Mr. Obama, a life preserver.
That’s because the plan is a Democratic giveaway. New production on offshore federal lands is left to state legislatures, and then in only four coastal states. The regulatory hurdles are huge. And the bill bars drilling within 50 miles of the coast — putting off limits some of the most productive areas. Alaska’s oil-rich Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is still a no-go.
The highlight is instead $84 billion in tax credits, subsidies and federal handouts for alternative fuels and renewables. The Gang of 10 intends to pay for all this in part by raising taxes on . . . oil companies! The Sierra Club couldn’t have penned it better. And so the Republican Five has potentially given antidrilling Democrats the political cover they need to neutralize energy through November.
Sen. Obama was thrilled. He quickly praised the Gang’s bipartisan spirit, and warmed up to a possible compromise. Of course, he means removing even the token drilling provisions now in the bill. But he’s only too happy for the focus to remain on the Gang’s efforts, and in particular on the five Republicans providing his party its fig leaf.
Everyone who cares needs to start wearing these sorry bastards out over this.CALL and call again and keep calling their offices. They will get the message.
More than any of the others, I loathe Graham. I have an anger toward him like I've never known before. He's such a prissy little sissy. I wish he'd just get back in the corner and shut his mouth!! I think it was when he said he "would just tell those Bigots to shut their mouths." Suffice to say, God better help him if we should ever meet. LOL What an absolute jackass he is.
Before I had any information other than Rush and the WSJ article, I called Senator Thune’s office and asked what the issues were. I was told by a staffer that there was no bill yet, however, based on this, contained in the press release,
“transition American fuel consumption from fossil fuels to biofuels, increase conservation and launch an Apollo-like project to move America’s cars and trucks to non-petroleum-based fuels”,
I will be calling again to suggest that the Senator who was and is a vocal proponent of corn gas supplement, should rethink the idea that we are going to be able to go to non-petroleum based fuels any time in the next fifty years for a significant number of vehicles.
I am particularly interested in trucks, trains, and airplanes and what makes him think other than smoke and mirrors that there is anything on over or within decades of the horizon that will meet the objective. The sentence from the press release is an envirodream of crack cocaine proportions.
According to mealy-mouth Chambliss, they did it because they think any legislation is better than no legislation. At least he and Isakson are from my state, and have been hearing from me ever since. I am convinced, though, that they are so out of touch, the message may not get through. Chambliss was obviously blindsided by the rage, which just has to make you wonder. How on earth can ANYBODY be this insulated from the real world of conservative constiuents???
