To understand why men marry, one should consider the bell curve: for the average man, this culturally sanctioned arrangement provides significant economic & physiological benefits.
However, as we move out to either side of the spectrum, the need (or concern) about societal approval greatly diminishes. Successful, powerful men do not need to marry; in fact, the institution inflicts tremendous economic penalties, which is why anyone with means uses a pre-nup. In addition, wealthy males attract countless numbers of attractive females. Simple logic dictates the outcome.
Politicians are unique in that they have to keep up the charade for the bulk of voters who reside in the middle. If Edwards wasn't a pol, he could be bedding hundreds of women without anyone caring a whit.
Bah—low self esteem. He cheated because he loved himself over everything else.
Because women chase important men who need attention.
But IMO there's just no comparison what he did after getting back from his little stay in the Hanoi Hilton, or the other POWs too, to what Silky Pony did.
1. Why? Because he could
2. Just because we can doesn’t mean we should.
3. Some people are just natural wh*res. Men and women. It’s all about the game and the thrill of secrecy and one-upmanship.
Mr. Edwards doesn't love himself?????Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here (Jack Nicholson, "As Good As It Gets).
Mr. Edwards is incredibly self absorbed, so much so, that he believes he can self-diagnose himself as narcisistic and it becomes a "diagnosis" not a moral failing. Someone once said "The man who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client." The same can be said of someone who is his own psychiatrist.
Mr.Edwards was trying to control the quality of information that got out which puts him in a bad light. The problem is not, 'he doesn't love himself', the problem is, 'Mr. Edwards is the only one he loves', and is proving it by destroying his wife and family and his reputiation.
Psychobalony.
Boy I’ve heard some bullshit excuses for a man being a pig, but this round of garbage tops them all.
“Hey baby, let’s get it on, I need to punish myself”.
ROTFLMAO OH. MY. GOD.
He wants what many men want. Their cake and eat it too.
The story is as old as the hills. There is nothing new under the sun.
From PowerLine (not exaxtly the bastion of liberalism:
“I am in complete sympathy with this [Elizabeth Edwards’]statement and do not intend to write anything additional about the affair. Edwards is being lambasted on the talk shows for having “covered up” his affair. But it wasn’t just in his interest to cover it up; it was also in the interest of his family. And it was to his family that Edwards owed his primary obligation here. Thus, unless he violated some law in the process, covering up the affair was the right thing for him to do.
I also find it difficult to understand why many conservative bloggers can’t entertain the possibility that Edwards feels genuine remorse over his conduct. To be sure, Edwards is a phony, and I’ve made that case in virtually everything I’ve ever written about him. Had this affair not been revealed, I’d have always remembered Edwards as the man whose phoniness, according to Bob Shrum, offended John Kerry.
But to have lived in the world, and to have understood the complexity of mankind, is to recognize that phoniness is not the same thing as an inability to have genuine feelings. To pretend frequently that one has extraordinary sensibilities is not evidence that one lacks ordinary sensibilities. A person with anything remotely resembling ordinary sensibilities would feel genuine remorse, and indeed shame, over the conduct involved here. Though we can’t know whether Edwards possesses such feeling, those who assume he doesn’t may be telling us more about themselves than about Edwards.
Piling on public figures after they are brought low by their human frailties is unseemly whatever the political affilation of the offender and whatever the ideological affiliaton of the critic.
The real truth is Bill Clinton was cheating with more women than just Monica.
As for this man, I find this WRONG.
Now we know why the majority of these self-focused losers choose the ‘RAT party - they have good reason to hate themselves and misery loves company.
SHMULEY BOTEACH - Michael Jackson friend and adviser.
Let's hope it keeps both men and women on the straight and narrow. Very few think of the fall out. When couples cheat the fallout is far reaching. Children, in-laws, church family and even pets get caught up in the discourse. It's never worth it.
I agree with your strange part..I think Edwards was so bad in bed all he could find was a one nite stand and he spread his joy, so to speak..just because u have nice hair and a good name.. does not make you a romeo..
Men like Edwards and Clinton cheat because they get constant validation from all the people they hang with.
Remember what your parents used to say- Be careful who you run around with. It shows who and what you are.
With the basic morals and ethics of the total Demorat party and the Liberal teachings in the “education” system for the last 30 years, it’s really a miracle more men don’t cheat.
Once they do, they will never stop completely. Out of my life. No second bite of that apple when I am around.
A) Hot-Shot, testosterone-driven, politico guys draw women in like a magnet.
B) Many guys believe that women who are “crazy” are also more wild in bed - but have no intention of making them a real “girlfriend.”
Edward’s actions have little to do with running for office. I don’t think that the narcissism descended on him after he started campaigning. He has, most likely, always been this type of man. He’s nothing special, there are plenty of men just like him, probably women too.
Because that's what pompous, liberal, immoral weasels do.

Have you taken a good look at his wife?
“LOL. After 3 years as a freeper, one might think you could distinguish the poster of the thread from the author of the article.”
Well, hope springs eternal as the saying goes. Btw, I have been a freeper much longer than a mere three years. How about yourself?
