MOSCOW (AFP)--French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Tuesday it was "normal" for Moscow to defend Russian-speaking people beyond its borders, but added that Georgia's territorial integrity had to be respected.

"It's perfectly normal that Russia would want to defend the interests both of Russians in Russia and Russian speakers outside Russia," Sarkozy said.

While in theory that may be true, the Russians will run that logic to any and all of its former satellites. There are many Russians in Moldova. There is also a breakaway republic there also, Transniestria. When will the jack-booted thugs roll into Chisinau saying they are peacekeepers?

And their natural gas. If our politicians had been willing to further expand our exploration and refining of petroeum and coal, the US would be in a position to provide Europe with its petroleum needs.

Wow. This statement is pretty remarkable to me.

What’s next? It’s only natural for us to comply with the Russians with respect to sending our Jews to these camps.

Ossetians are ethnically and linguistically part of the Iranian family.

And what the heck has language (which in this case isn't even russian) to do with the right to annex a sovereign country!? Sarkozy is a bootlicking dope.

So if we take “the one’s” advice and learn to speak french, Sorkozy will feel a need to defend us?

Hmmm...wasn't that very similar to what Neville Chamberlain said about Hitler wanting the Sudetenland in 1938?

It's perfectly normal that Russia would want to defend the interests...of ... Russian speakers

And this is perfectly "normal" for a French speaker to say. French speaking peoples throughout the world (Quebec, Morocco, Haiti, etc) defend their "rights" to have a "French language exclusivity" where ever they are and the French gubmint helps them to literally and legally enforce their paranoia.
