Forensic experts at "Body Farm" test trunk air samples

KNOXVILLE, TN (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- DNA samples taken from Casey Anthony's car are still undergoing analysis, but FOX 35 can confirm that forensic anthropologists from the University of Tennessee have now been called in to test air samples from the vehicle.

Anthony, 22, is being held on over half-a-million dollar bond after investigators said she lied to them and did not report daughter Caylee Marie Anthony missing for more than a month. Last week, she was formally charged with child neglect, a felony, and making false statements to law enforcement officers, a misdemeanor.

Sheriff's deputies testified that her car smelled of decomposition and a cadaver-trained German shepherd noted a smell of human remains there.

Detectives say statements made by Cindy Anthony, grandmother of a missing toddler corroborate their theories of foul play. Cindy told an emergency dispatcher that a car driven by Casey smelled like there had been a dead body inside, according to recordings of 911 calls.

"There's something wrong," Cindy told the dispatcher in the recordings. "I found my daughter's car today, and it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car."

Now, forensic experts at the University of Tennessee's Anthropology Research Facility -- known on campus as the "body farm" (pictured) -- have become involved in the investigation.

Air samples from the car's trunk are currently being tested, samples from the same white Pontiac which detectives say Casey abandoned at a local AMSCOT check-cashing store. It's also the same car in which investigators found stains, dirt and hair matching that of little Caylee.

The tests could prove whether a body was ever in the trunk for an extended period of time. Experts at the body farm know how to test for chemicals released by a decomposing body. Researchers at UT Knoxville could not say how long it would take to test the samples, but results will be turned over to Orange County detectives once complete.

In the meantime, lab technicians at the Federal Bureau of Investigations continue to process DNA sample collected from the car during the early days of the investigation.

This story has only a bad ending to it, and it’s approaching.

I wish I could say you were wrong, but I have to agree with you. Too many lies, too much weirdness, too much time passed.

Casey Anthony killed Caylee Anthony, perhaps deliberately, perhaps accidentally.

Casey Anthony disposed of Caylee Anthony's remains, perhaps with her parents' knowledge and assistance, perhaps without.

In any case the Anthonys know what happened and are now all accessories after the fact.

These scientists at that lab are supposed to be some of the best. I have no doubt they will get to the bottom of this.

Unfortunately we all know what that means...

I have figured all along that the police know Caylee is dead. If they believed she could be alive, there would be an Amber Alert.

So sad. What a precious child.

It seems that the twists and turns and the playing to the media by the family is playing a huge part in contributing to their becoming assessories after the fact. If grandfather is retired law enforcement from Ohio he knows what is going on.

Most interesting is that he is the last person who visited Casey in jail and all subsequent family visits have been cancelled. And more interesting is that none of that audio has been made public.

An Amber alert can’t be issued without a license plate number. That’s why they didn’t issue an Amber alert for the little girl taken by that Rockefeller guy.

I sadly agree. If I were the mom I would be trying to make a deal now. The best outcome (barring the child being alive, which I don’t see how that could be) is that they find her body and put some *closure* on it. I hate that word because you never get it, but at least with a body to bury you aren’t always waiting for that last shoe to drop. Poor little girl.

That's the thing.

Were she to admit that she knows where the body is, she would negotiate a deal on the understanding that Caylee Anthony's death was accidental - because that would result in the shortest possible sentence.

However, I would guess that the body, once analyzed, would reveal that her death was not accidental - scotching any sweetheart deal.

Even if the Mom didn’t kill Caylee she knows who did. A boyfriend perhaps. It’s obvious that this girl wanted to party and the child became a liability. When I see footage of them leading her into court she looks so damn smug.

The mom is now refusing to meet with her parents and brother.

I think the child drowned in the Grandparents pool and the mom disposed of her body, somewhere.

Does anyone know what the outcome was with the psychic detectives? Creepy I know, but the police are coming up with zilch.

And that may well be why she is not trying to make a deal. Gosh, I hate when these things happen. This mother seems like a total and complete narcisist.

She would have sung by now and he would be in custody if that were the case. At the evry least, any boyfriend would have been identified by now and interviewed.

Her character is manifest: if there was a way to dump this all on someone else, she would have jumped at the chance weeks ago.

She killed her daughter, likely on purpose.

This is the body farm lab anthropologists at UTK. During the late 1970’s I used to help Dr. Bass with his dead bodies that were held on the hillside at Cherokee Farm. At that time the area was a location that was away from access from the public. The veterinary college’ large animals were kept right next to the body farm and I had several occasions to help Dr. Bass with the decomposing bodies since he had to carry them to the veterinary college necropsy facilities right next to the farm. I had no idea the place would become so famous. Dr. Bass was a “hoot” to work with...intelligent and humorous. I went on to veterinary medicine and would have considered forensic anthropology as a vocation after having worked with Dr. Bass. Ironically, the view from the body farm is breathtaking...it overlooks the Tennessee River and Knoxville...

Yeah, I think people who habitually lie don’t know how to tell the truth. They have been successful lying and it’s their modus operandi. I’ve known people like that. If you catch them in a lie they just either change their story a bit or ignore it. It always amazes me, I would be mortified to be caught in a lie.

What I fail to understand is this cryptic comment from the biological parental unit's (hereafter "BPU", because she damn sure isn't worthy of the term "mother") attorney Jose Baez:

"Baez said his client is innocent and "has a very compelling reason for her actions and we will present them at the proper time and place."

If that so-called 'compelling reason' ends up being the cause of death for that little girl, the attorney should be indicted for aiding and abetting murder, as I see it. If the attorney has any knowledge whatsoever of where Caylee Anthony is and fails to disclose it to authorities, he is as guilty as his psycho-beeotch client.

The whole thing makes little sense (to me) and I think everything she has said is just an effort to cover up what she did. I suspect she is lying to her lawyer (who doesn’t want to know the truth) and just saying things she hopes will take the heat off of her. She’s an idiot, apparently, in addition to being a very bad person.

The ONLY reason that is acceptable would be that the child was under threat of death or physical harm from some outside person or group. If the child is being hidden for those reasons, then this masquerade may be necessary. But, imho, this is just a scam for a insanity defense..............

It always amazes me, I would be mortified to be caught in a lie.

My brother was diagnosed as a sociopath about the age of 12 or so. He is now 52. He is a consummate liar. If he told me the sky was blue I'd go check. He has no qualms about telling a lie. Even when the truth is more in his favor, he will lie. He cannot tell a truthful statement to save his own life. I grew up with him, so I know this is the way he is. When I tell others about him they are sure I am lying about him. Until they figure out their bank accounts are now much smaller than they were before they met him.......

Psychic Gale St. John has joined the search for missing Caylee Anthony. St. John is looking for a place she can envision. A spot in Orlando, Florida near a lake, surrounded by trees and wild flowers. That is where she believes Caylee Anthony can be found, but not alive....St. John hasn't met personally with the Anthony family and says she came to Florida because people asked her to. She is trying to raise about $1,500 to cover travel and hotel expenses -- and is asking for donations on her Web site.

A lake surrounded by trees and wildflowers, in the Orlando area...........Yep, that's psychic power allrighty..........

I suppose in Florida that it wouldn’t be too hard to feed the aligators. I had an FBI agent call me unhumanly callous when I was working for the NSA. I wonder what he would call Casey?

Sociopaths are so charming to those around them, they fool everyone—until one gets close enough to suffer the consequences.

Charming is exactly what my brother is. He charms people right out of whatever it is that he wants from them, especially women. His "charms" don't work quite as well with men, and never on me at all. I know him. I grew up with him. All thru school he was able to fool teachers and staff into feeling sorry for him. Some of his "stories" that he told people were absolutely heart grabbing trash...................

Oh, do I know the type. When you try to warn others that don’t know him very well, they think you’re the crazy one. Of course he has told them how crazy you are, and how you make him suffer.

I was married to a guy just like that. Mr. Charming died of a drug overdose. When the truth about him became known, everyone was shocked. He had told them what a witch I was, and they were surprised to see different. He had also screwed them all over one way or another.

I’m sorry about your brother, but he’s the one that’s going to have to face the consequences in the end. Pray for him.

If she's a murderer, she's far worse than a narcissist. If I were not aware of previous cases of mothers killing their own children, I wouldn't even consider the thought that Casey would ever kill her baby girl.

Casey's parents and brother can't help but be suspicious, with all the lies this girl has told: maybe they just cannot accept that she may be guilty of the worst crime.

We know that Cindy Anthony was the first one to mention the smell of a dead body in the car trunk. She also tried to explain away the frequent pics of her daughter cavorting like, sorry to say it, a tramp.

The saddest part of this drama is that little Caylee has been kidnapped, sold or died from an accidental or deliberate cause.
