At what price will corn be so expensive that the federal government will decide that it is time to stop driving up the price of food?
Three years ago, Congress imposed a Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) mandate that has forced the gasoline industry to mix massive amounts of corn-based ethanol into the nation's fuel supply. In 2007, Congress nearly doubled that mandate to require nine billion gallons of ethanol be blended into gas in 2008 and even more in 2009.
But, as a safety valve, Congress gave the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the power to waive the new mandates if they turn out to have unforeseen, negative consequences.

Good article....just depressing.
The congress critters don’t give a rat’s arse if people in third world countries are starving. They think they are saving the friggin planet, and you know, those votes in Iowa are really important to them.
They just had to throw that in there didn't they. Like it makes a difference who's side he's on...it's the truth and as usual the environazi’s are incapable of recognizing the facts!
I love Governor Perry.
My leftist In-Laws hate his guts but he’s a great guv. He’s created a business-friendly environment in the state and the economy is growing by leaps and bounds down here.
And this article simply shows how sensible he is. Too bad the federal bureaucrats don’t share his ability to reason.
A inefficient fuel substitute, puts food supply in competition with energy supply, 1 gallon of ethanol requires over 2000 gallons of water to produce; what’s not to like about Gore juice?
Doesn’t it also take oil to produce? Corn ethanol is so stupid it’s mind boggling. I’ve heard of other ethanol alternatives such as algae, which I’m all for if it can be done effectively and efficiently. Plus with something like algae, no one would be competing for it as a resource since its only real use would be ethanol. But who knows.
Rock on, Governor Perry. Fight them long and hard and you will be President soon.
And THAT will be a good thing.
America needs someone who will take a strong stand on energy and cut the crap...
Drill, build nuclear, build wind, cut the corn nonsense out...

How about the Nobama ad that says” Fast Track Alternative Energy”?????
How fast did all those Ethanol refineries get approved and built???
Faster than most high rise apartments can be approved.
Let’s be a tax more accurate here:
Texas feedlot operators and packing plants are fed up with ethanol.
Count ‘em up:

I don’t give a rat’s rear end that people in third world dumps are starving. I don’t want my elected representatives to care about the situation either, because when they start “caring” about people in Third World dungheaps, they do the “caring” with MY money.
Congress has caused food prices to skyrocket. If all the farmland in the U.S. was used to grow corn, and if all that corn was used for ethanol, it would still only meet about 10% of our fuel needs. The “Corn Laws” are idiotic and should be repealed by our fools in Congress. Boone Pickens, an oil billionaire and energy expert, has called corn ethanol “a joke”. (See www.pickensplan.com for more on his ideas.)
Congress should lift the ban on offshore drilling and drilling in ANWR. Congress should support, instead of putting roadblocks in the way of, the construction of nuclear power plants. Our Congressmorons have been out to lunch for 30 years.
The only one who should be turning corn into alcohol is J. W. Dant.
(Houston) TEXAS PING
I filled up on Sunday and the pump handles all said may contain Ethanol-I have a new Honda Accord-does ethanol have any “bad” effects in your tank? I kind of worried after putting it in the tank it may cause car to run funny or something.
Really the relationship isn’t direct. The corn being siphoned off for fuel would be that which is used indirectly (feed, processed products for other foodstuffs). Right now feed costs are putting some livestock producers out of business or at least looking for lower cost alternatives. That said the BIG killer in this equation is fuel and its common to all of the price rises.
If the claims are true that ethanol reduces mileage by 5-10%, the 5 cents extra i pay for their gas is a steal in comparison.
Actually, in this case I'm glad they pointed out party affiliation. IMO it shows who displays common sense, and it is not the "environazis". Energy is going to be the key issue in Republicans favor this election.
Where does that claim come from? Is that mostly the rain on the corn field?
