Barack Obama's campaign is rolling out a number of centrist Republicans who are endorsing the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee over Republican rival John McCain - in a show of his ability to win cross-over votes.
A conference call Tuesday featured former Iowa Rep. Jim Leach, former White House intelligence adviser Rita Hauser and former Rhode Island Sen. Lincoln Chafee, who represented his state as a Republican, but switched to become a Democrat so he could vote for Obama in the primary.
Leach predicted that a lot of Republicans and independents are going to be attracted by Obama's campaign.
The Obama camp also pointed journalists to reports that Fairbanks, Alaska, Mayor Jim Whitaker, a Republican, also has announced his support for Obama.

This "Republicans for Obama" myth is being kept in circulation by the partisan media. Newscorp execs endorsed Kerry in 2004.

I sincerely doubt it. McCain is much closer in political outlook with the senators you named than Bush. Why would they support Obama unless out of office? They risk losing all support if McCain wins. They have nothing to gain by supporting Obama. I can see why you might believe someone like Snowe would switch, but Orrin Hatch? Please.

Anyone can vote in the “poll” on “republicansforobama” even without signing up. It’s an opinion poll about McCain’s ads. I believe I’ll vote a few more times that they are “fine.”

You’d think nominating McCain would have kept the RINOs on board,....but no. Some people just hate themselves so much.
I suspect it has more to do with Bush than with McCain or Obama. Jumping to Obama is a delayed reaction to the current administration. Under other circumstances these people would be more than happy with McCain.
And no Republican in Congress is going to endorse Obama unless he or she plans on changing parties and crossing the aisle. It's easier for those who hold no office to do things like this.
BTW, our only conservative, Thompson started late and gave up early. Get over it.
