"Every time I look at Phoebe, I know I made the right decision. I never wanted to end my baby's life just because of how she came to be," she told the Daily Mail this weekend. God Bless this courageous woman and her child.

despite the disapproval of most of her family and the open scorn of people in her village and church... What kind of a church would scorn a young woman for refusing to have an abortion? It would seem the writer of this piece has an ax to grind against organized religion.
But good for this young lady. She's a true giant among moral cowards.

To the best of my knowledge the author (Hilary White) is a devout Catholic and IS NOT against traditional organized Christianity.

What kind of a church would scorn a young woman for refusing to have an abortion? There are many "Sunday Meeting Houses" out there today which would, but *I* would never dignify them with the appellation of "church"...

That’s a very moving story. Elizabeth and her mom deserve a lot of credit here. I am so glad for everyone concerned that Elizabeth was able to move and and adopt what I consider to be a very healthy attitude about all this.
I am sorry Elizabeth was subjected to this type of crime. It was despicable!
Phoebe is one lucky child!

Why should the baby pay the ultimate price for the crimes of the rapist?
I would certainly understand if the mother wanted to give up the baby for adoption do to being raped.

I truly believe the victim of a rape can overcome the great evil and injustice done to her by having that child.
When you are the primary instrument in turning evil into good, you are really healed.
How tragic that most pregnant rape victims are pushed to deal with the horror of rape by undergoing the horror, guilt, pain and loss of aborting their own baby.

My first reaction as well. Not that it excuses the behavior in any way but in the story it mentions the "few" people who knew about the rape. Perhaps these people were showing "disapproval" for what they ignorantly believed was a promiscuous teen.
