Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick Hopes to be Untethered to Attend Dem Convention
Detroit's embattled mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, a superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention, is holding out the possibility that he'll actually be able to go to Denver this month. In other words, the Hip-Hop mayor could get a new nickname: the Most Unwanted Man at the Convention. (Besides maybe John Edwards.)
[T]he mayor was waiting to see what happens on Thursday, when he's scheduled to be arraigned on felony charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, and on Friday, when he's due to appear in court on separate assault charges.
"He would have to get permission from the judge" in order to travel to Denver, Tolliver said. "I know that is something [his attorneys] are working on now."

Free Kwame! (for the convention only)
What a piece of work Kwame is. I hope they let him speak!
Isn’t he in jail for violating his bond by leaving the city? What a buffoon. He, Edwards, Clinton, Wm Jefferson D-LA (aka “Icebox” Jefferson) - there are just so many choices for appropriate speakers for the dem convention.
Just what I was thinking, he’d only be absolutely representative of the ‘rats anyway, they would welcome him if they weren’t hypocrites, LOL.
Why would Kwame want to associate with a bunch of thieving trash?
I hope he’s untethered too
It’s going to be a circus.
He was told not to leave the STATE. Next he was spotted in a Windsor water park. Parole violation.
Then the state’s AG indicted him again for violating the parole condition of not speaking to potential witnesses including his cousin (I believe), relating to his assault on a sheriffs deputy.
Maybe he can wear one of those ankle monitors
...in other words.... he should be the keynote speaker at the DemocRAT Convention
you know after he was released, he went to his mom’s house and hung out with his sister AN EYE WITNESS IN THE ASSAULT CASE.
State lawyers are taking action today for violating his bond (again).
I don’t think this untether request is going to get much sympathy from the court.
He did less time than Lindsay Lohan...he's now sporting a pimped-out anklet.
LOL! a super delegate with a GPS ankle bracelet going to the convention!
Fantastic! He should be allowed to introduce Bill Clinton...
Let his pimpnesty go !
Well, the Dem convention is gonna be a Zoo, so why not let him go? He will fit right in.
I hope he wears the purple suit and fedora with the big feather and has the ho’s on both arms. Bring da pimp style to the con, yo.
Na, he is a grand dem-o-rat, so he only go in and out of jail.
A couple of years ago, I had a hard time returning with a teenager from my church who didn't have a drivers license yet.
I understand that it is even harder to return than before.
What are the current rules for day trips and overnights?
Do you need a passport?

LMAO!! The mayor can’t leave town!
ALL PERSONS traveling by air outside of the United States are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.
LAND AND SEA TRAVEL
The following summarizes information available on the Department of Homeland Securitys website.
U.S. citizens need to present either (a) a passport, passport card (scheduled to be in full production beginning in July 2008), or WHTI-compliant document; or (b) a government-issued photo ID, such as a drivers license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.
On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or WHTI-compliant document.
Note: The passport requirement does NOT apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory.
U.S. PASSPORT AND WHTI COMPLIANT DOCUMENTS:
U.S. Passport: U.S. citizens may present a valid U.S. passport when traveling via air, land or sea between the U.S. and the aforementioned Western Hemisphere countries.
The Passport Card: Passport card applications are currently being accepted in anticipation of land border travel document requirements. Based on current projections, we expect the passport card to be in full production beginning in July 2008. We will provide additional updates as available. Once in production, the passport card it will only be valid for land and sea travel between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean region, and Bermuda.
WHTI-Compliant Travel Documents for U.S. citizen travel via land or sea, as of January 31, 2008:
Trusted Traveler Cards (NEXUS, SENTRI, or FAST)
State Issued Enhanced Drivers License (when available)
Enhanced Tribal Cards (when available)
U.S. Military Identification with Military Travel Orders
U.S. Merchant Mariner Document when traveling in conjunction with official maritime business
Native American Tribal Photo Identification Card
Form I-872 American Indian Card
For further information see U.S. Customs and Border protection.
The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative is a result of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (IRTPA), requiring all travelers to present a passport or other document that denotes identity and citizenship when entering the U.S.
The goal of the initiative is to strengthen U.S. border security while facilitating entry for U.S. citizens and legitimate foreign visitors by providing standardized documentation that enables the Department of Homeland Security to quickly and reliably identify a traveler.
Hmmm, for the last two years, I have been told that I needed passport to go to Canada for my cruise and to return to the US.
Maybe the US Customs agents are so used to seeing him on in Windsor that they are on a first name basis.
Maybe the US Customs are also fans of the Windsor Opera.
Sure is curious.
