TBILISI, Georgia-As news spread that the presidents of Georgia and Russia had agreed on a French-brokered cease-fire to the fighting that began last week, the capital of Tbilisi erupted in celebration. Thousands of people crammed onto Rustaverli avenue, and young Georgians, wrapped in white banners reading "Stop Russia," gathered in front of the Parliament building for a rally that lasted until early this morning. Some held candles; others carried Georgian and EU flags that had been handed out on the spot. When leaders of Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Georgia appeared before the crowd, the people chanted, "Sakartvelo!," an old name for Georgia. Each leader expressed understanding and promised full support for Georgia. "You have the right to freedom and independence. We are here to demonstrate our solidarity," Ukrainian president Victor Yushchenko said. With constant fear of bombardment as the war approached their city, most of the crowd had been awake for hours on end. Photographer Tomari Bolkvadze, 26, and her husband Alexandre Katsiadze, 26, an architect, said they hadn't slept much during the last four days. "We did not want the war, we did not want to kill Ossetian people," Bolkvadze said. "To stop the war now, we pray for the EU to help us." The couple said they grieved for the young men of their age dying at the front, and for the Western journalists killed and wounded in a bomb explosion minutes before Russia's president announced the cease-fire. Many people at the rally expressed doubt that a cease-fire would last. "Conflict with Russia is like a disease we have," said Georgy Pakhviashvili, 25.

The Russians will say on the initial refusal of Georgia to their terms, we tried and they didnt want peace.
After all, this is the Russian way.
If anyone thinks this is over, you will be sorely mistaken.
Think about it, how can they allow outsiders to pick over their actions in Georgia, there is too much terrible evidence.
Raping Women, etc.. Georgia is done. They are using this to reduce the resistance as much as possible on their way to the capital.
You wait, they will have the President of Georgia in Moscow within a month if he doesnt commit suicide. And if you think he is going to the US Embassy, the Russians are making sure he doesnt get there.
If I was them, get ready to defend yourself rather than patting yourselves on the back.
The Russians are quietly laughing to themselves.
I hate them.
never trust (ras)putin. he is a devil
They are to be hated. They have always been hated. They have added misery to this world for centuries. May God save Georgia.
They deserve to be hated. Russia’s soldiers are animals and their PM and Puppet President are evil. They’re trying toresurrect the evil Empire but we will not let it happen!
We may only be in the 1st quarter here.
No motive for Russia to move now....they got what they wanted.
They can smell The Oil.
Cheney’s VP for a reason. Russia will exit with tail between legs within 48 hours.
Only if he goes to Georgia.
We have to make the message stronger, this is the only way.
Sending Rice is a good step, but Cheney has to go, after he comes back, Bush must go.
This will be over before flight plans for them can be written.
