Duncan Hunter: Why do we Tolerate Mexican Troop Incursions?
humanevents.com ^ | 08/14/2008 | Rep. Duncan Hunter

Posted on 08/14/2008 4:56:09 AM PDT by kellynla

The men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol guarding the Southern land border come into constant contact with drug and human smugglers, criminals and migrants. Every so often, they even encounter Mexican military personnel making unauthorized incursions across the border into the United States.

The most recent Mexican military incursion occurred last week on the Tohono O’odham Indian Reservation in Arizona. According to reports, the Mexican soldiers crossed the border in a military vehicle and held a Border Patrol agent at gunpoint before escaping back to Mexico.

While the agent who was temporarily detained by the Mexican soldiers was not injured, there is no question that this incident could have ended differently -- especially when the soldiers and agent were armed, and backup was on its way to assist the officer. Nonetheless, this incident raises serious questions about the presence and activities of the Mexican military on the border.

A State Department spokesman, responding to the incursion in Arizona, said the incident stemmed from a “momentary misunderstanding.” This statement is difficult to accept when there have been more than 40 incursions on the U.S-Mexico border since October of last year and over 200 similar encounters since 1996. Clearly, Mexican military incursions are far from a rare occurrence.

The Departments of State and Homeland Security, which have downplayed these encounters in the past, have an obligation to forcefully address this incident and the likelihood of future incursions. We must convey to Mexico that we will not tolerate their soldiers crossing into the U.S. without our knowledge or consent. More importantly, we must continue building fencing and other infrastructure in problematic areas of the border, including those prone to incursions.

This is a far more serious matter than illegal immigration.

They already feel entitled. And why wouldn’t they?
The US government, and the two schlubs running for POTUS, don’t seem to care.

They never speak out about this. Both of them should be drilled on this issue.

Duncan Hunter: Why do we Tolerate Mexican Troop Incursions?

Sorry, Duncan, you work up in the viper pit in Washington, you KNOW this is a rhetorical question. We tolerate these incursions because, if we didn't, it might discourage the next bunch of illegals from trying to invade the US by illegally entering our country and sucking down our social services and resources.

This isn't rocket science, Duncan.

Cause the Mexicans have photos of G.W. that could be considered embarassing.
Why do you think G.W. has had his lips on the Mexicans backsides from the gitty up?
Send us your poor unwashed uneducated masses.

"...there have been more than 40 incursions on the U.S-Mexico border since October of last year and over 200 similar encounters since 1996."

The State Dept. knows it happens, allows it to happen and downplays the incursions as momentary misunderstandings when they do happen? Makes me wonder what's really going on. Given the world we live in, our open borders should be a constant training exercise for our military and national guard along with the border patrol. We go off to fight wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and leave the front and back doors open here at home. Why?

Our Politicians & Elites have been reading white papers from Think Tanks for the last 30+ years that says Third World types will be the eventual majority in the US sometime this century. Instead of showing the leardership to resist it (while we easily could have), they buckled under and decided to help facilitate and accelerate it. Why? Because they figure they, and their ilk, will always be able to ride the tiger. Besides, its easier to govern a nation of dependent peons than it is a Nation of free, independent-minded people.

My assessment: at this point, the country is pretty much hosed. Perhaps not now, but in 30 years you’ll see the consequences of current policy. We are just like the Romans in the late 300s—they knew things going in the wrong direction, but life was too easy & good for them to get too upset. Nothing but a civil war could change things. In other words, we’d almost have to destroy the country to save it.

Let's post National Guardsmen down on the border and let Mexico know that if their soldiers enter into our territory without permission the NG will have orders to shoot to kill.

That should take care of it.

If armed citizens in that region are aware of military incursions across our border, what is their duty as citizens and patriots?

Military incursions are not law enforcement matters. These are military matters. Where are the closest U.S. Army and Marine bases to that region? If military commanders know of these incursions, what is their duty when sworn to defend the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic? Enemies I say, because friends don't come across our borders and hold federal (or any) officers (or any Americans) at gun point.

And what has happened to the militia movement in the USA of late? I hear absolutely nothing anymore? Have they been totally emasculated? Back in the 1990s there was a lot of news about, and rearing up of militia types all seemingly wanting to go into action.

I seem to remember a militia leader named Cooper (if my memory serves me correctly) back around ‘94, ‘95 who was all over the news and he was talking to the Feds about the possibility of militia units going to the Mexican border to defend it. What happened to him?

What would happen if a band of armed citizens came across such an incursion and were to take on a Mexican unit, and, let's say, they are able to take them prisoner? What would the Feds be forced to do then? If this were to happen, what would be the likelihood of the American citizens being charged with crimes, and apologies being made to the Mexican government. Somehow, now, that is what I would see happening.

Or could you imagine Americans coming across this and in a firefight killing Mexican soldiers? I am so cynical anymore that our federal government has so abandoned our national sovereignty and our borders, that patriotic Americans would be seen as the violators and as criminals for trying to defend our borders.

It's not cynicism. It's reality. Heck, they put two guys who's job it was to defend the border in jail for defending the border.

God help us.

Misunderstandings weren’t an issue with the East/West German border. I wonder why?

Let's post National Guardsmen down on the border and let Mexico know that if their soldiers enter into our territory without permission the NG will have orders to shoot to kill.

The last time we "surged"NG troopers to the border, they were sent without the means to defend themselves by our elected betters. In fact, one or more groups of NG were forced to abandon their posts by incoming small arms fire from our friends south of the border.

As with most things dealing in human nature, this situation won't get better until it first gets far, far worse. By then however, demographic reality will have taken hold for good and we as a nation, a concept, and a way of life will be irreversably humped.

I'm almost rooting for someone with nothing left to lose to do something stupid and try to force destiny's hand.

There is no border between the two countries. What we call a border is no more than an imaginary line drawn on a map. Just ask our fearless leaders.

In the absence of even token resistance, the Mexican military may as well be the most unstoppable force on this planet. This doesn't change until someone comes up with the gumption to start sending invaders home in body bags.
