Mom Made Repeated Calls On 'Key' Day In Missing Orlando Girl Mystery

Cadaver Dogs Records Requested By Attorney

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Cell phone calls made in a span of several hours by the mother of a missing Orlando girl could help detectives determine where the woman was in the days after her daughter was last seen.

Casey Anthony's cell phone records from June 16 -- the day investigators believe something may have happened to her daughter Caylee -- show she made nearly a dozen calls in less than five hours, records obtained by Fox News Channel showed.

Anthony called her mother seven times, her dad once, her boyfriend and two other friends, the records showed.

The woman's cell records from June 17 were not available but on June 18, the records showed Casey Anthony tried calling her mom and dad six times in less than an hour.

Attorney Questions Timeline

Meanwhile, Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, said he finds it odd that investigators are zeroing in on three dates in June.

Video shot on June 15 shows Caylee Anthony reading a book at a table.

However, deputies are pointing to June 16 as the day something happened to Caylee, Local 6's Erik von Ancken said.

Detectives said on June 17, Casey Anthony borrowed a shovel from a neighbor and on June 18 the woman was spotted backing up her car to her family's garage.

"I have not heard that theory," Cindy Anthony said. "Out of their mouths today, to me, all of them (said) they're looking for a missing child. That's what I'm doing. I'm looking for a missing child. And that is what I'm asking the public to do."

Publicly, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said 100 percent of their resources are going into finding Caylee Anthony.

Privately, detectives admitted that Casey Anthony is just as much a focus of their investigation, Local 6 reported.

Casey Anthony remains jailed on $500,00 bond as a national search continues for her daughter.

Cadaver Dogs Records Requested

During the initial investigation into Caylee Anthony's investigation, two different cadaver dogs hit on the same spot in the child's grandparents back yard.

Deputies said the dogs were trained to locate gases given off by a decomposing human.

However, the missing child's grandmother said the dogs could have been confused by their handlers.

"I went online this morning and read up on a lot of cadaver dogs," Cindy Anthony said on in July. "Cadaver dogs could be cued by their owner."

Local 6 has learned that Baez has filed a motion asking for all background information on the dogs, including their training records.

Family Conducts Own Search

Cindy Anthony said that her family is conducting its own search for Caylee.

"I was out yesterday doing my own foot-pounding up in another county based on some tips and some leads, so yeah, we're all out there kind of doing our own thing," said Cindy Anthony, the grandmother of Caylee Anthony.

Casey Anthony said she left Caylee with a baby sitter named Zeniada Gonzalez at the Sawgrass Apartments in Orange County.

"I believe my daughter. I know that someone has my granddaughter," said George Anthony, Casey Anthony's father, who suggested on Tuesday that that the kidnappers may be under surveillance.

Orange County sheriff's officials cautioned anyone against conducting their own investigation.

"Obviously we don't want anybody who's not trained in law enforcement and proper procedures to do anything out of the norm that they think they should be doing," Orange County sheriff's Capt. Angelo Nieves said.

But Cindy Anthony said she has recruited a team to help her in the search.

"We get tips every day on Zenaida Gonzalez. They have over a thousand Zenaida Gonzalezes that are linked to the places that Casey told them to look, so it does take time to search through. Private individuals (are) doing it, authorities are doing it, private investigators are doing it, family members are doing it," Cindy Anthony said. "One of those tips is going to say, 'Hey, I know exactly where (Caylee) is at,' and it's probably going to be a very covert operation."

FBI Checks Threats

Meanwhile, FBI agents are now checking into some of the daily threats targeting the family of Caylee Anthony.

"The sheriff's department (and) the FBI are looking into this," George Anthony said. "Whenever you start threatening people with bodily harm, that's a problem."

The Anthony family said they have received threats every day by letter, e-mail or phone.

A search continues for missing Caylee Anthony.

she made nearly a dozen calls in less than five hours

That's actually an amazingly paltry number, compared to most cellphone freaks I know.

something about the family’s attitude doesn’t pass the smell test - two cadaver dogs cue up at the same spot and the family immediately blames the handlers, and demands to see the dog’s training records?

my take is that mom had something to do with the kid’s dissapearance and that grandma and grandpa are covering for her.

Cindy Anthony said that her family is conducting its own search for Caylee.

Maybe they could enlist O.J.'s help since he's been so successful in tracking down the "real" killer of his wife and Ron Goldman.

Let’s not forget JonBenet Ramsey’s parents. They were completely innocent.

Let’s wait for the truth to be brought out.

I am sure the child's mother had something to do with this.

I wonder if the grandparents are covering, or in total denial; wanting to believe the child is alive somewhere so they do not have to deal with the knowledge that their daughter killed their grandchild.

Hmm...they believe their daughter, the living embodiment of the word “mendacious.” Well known to all including themselves as a pathological liar. However, trained cadaver dogs, police investigators, phone company records...are all wrong. And, at every turn they dismiss and obstruct. This is not the response of a family trying to find a missing child. This is the response of a family frantically trying to save their collective sorry behinds.

Yeah, the mom took their car (I think, if I understood it correctly from her 911 call) and is gone with their granddaughter for a month and they don’t call the police? If your daughter is acting bad enough to take your car and money from your bank, she doesn’t need to have your granddaughter!

i’m not sure that parent’s actions are consistent with denial - if so they wouldn’t be so hostile to the dog situation. to me, their actions are more consistent with covering up, obfuscation, and tampering with evidence.

you are correct, but i still think their actions stink. seems like they are more about stalling and obstructing than helping in any legitimate way.

denial in which they actively seek to hide from the truth to the point of obecuring it when it arises may be a factor, but i doubt it.

Easy enough to get that impression, but I think it would be wrong.

This grandmother and Grandfather are caught between a rock and a hard place. They feel that if they don't support the now known to be "mental" daughter, that they will not find out what happened to their grandchild. That's about the size of it.

That girl is sick. She is creating her own reality. It may be a long time before they ever discover the body of her daughter, and I believe it was a negligent accident.

No confessions as of yet. They are sequestering Casey in the hopes that she will probably break down at some point. The DNA tests are not all back in from the lab, and the police is holding the evidence close to the vest. You can be sure that as soon as the DNA tests are complete and conclusive of a dead baby’s DNA, they will burn rubber all the way to the court house..................

UPDATE:

Family Erupts Over Question; Mom Stopped Mentioning Daughter, Man Says
Casey Anthony Made Repeated Calls On ‘Key’ Day In Mystery

POSTED: 1:13 pm EDT August 14, 2008
UPDATED: 1:40 pm EDT August 14, 2008
ORLANDO, Fla. — The grandparents of a missing Orlando girl lashed out at news reporters Thursday over a question yelled at them as they walked to see the child’s jailed mother.

IMAGES: Caylee Photos | Casey Photos Surface

“Do you have anything to say about a new theory that Caylee (Anthony) may be dead and that it may be an accident?” a reporter asked.

“Shut up,” George Anthony screamed as he moved toward the reporter. “Shut up.”

Caylee’s grandmother, Cindy, stepped between her husband and the reporter. She then said the media has hampered tips from the public before walking off.

“That is the reason why I got a phone call at 11 p.m. last night and the lady was crying because of that kind of stuff on the news that she held back for four weeks calling in a tip because she was afraid and they spotted Caylee again.”

George and Cindy Anthony spent 45 minutes on a video conference call with their daughter at the jail. Both left the Orange County Jail without comment.

Mom Stopped Mentioning Caylee

Meanwhile, an interview with a former roommate of Casey Anthony’s boyfriend shed some light on how the woman acted while her daughter was missing and before her mother called the authorities.

A man named Clint House — a former roommate of Casey Anthony’s boyfriend, Tony Lazarro — spoke to Fox News about the woman’s demeanor.

“Between June 16 and July 1 when you moved out, was Casey still coming to see Tony and spending the night?” Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren said.

“Yes, it became more frequent and being almost every single night she was staying there,” House said.

“Do you remember that week, right after Father’s Day?” Van Susteren asked. “Anything unusual that week?”

“Nothing unusual besides the fact that Caylee was never there anymore,” House said. “We always asked where Caylee is at, (and she’d say) ‘Oh, she’s with the grandparents or she’s at the beach with the nanny. That didn’t strike me as unusual at the time. Other than that, nothing.”

House continued to say that at a certain point Casey Anthony stopped mentioning Caylee even when they asked about her.

He said looking back at the events, some of Anthony’s behavior is troubling.

“Wouldn’t you be surprised if someone who was hanging out with you and your friends, all of the sudden her daughter is missing and she is out partying?” House said.

House said Casey Anthony claimed she went to work every day and that she was going back to school.

He said she told him the child’s father was on the way to Caylee’s birthday party and was killed in a car crash but added that he had no way of knowing whether or not she was lying.

Detectives Zero In On Calls

Also, detectives are zeroing in on Casey Anthony’s cell phone records, Local 6 has learned.

Casey Anthony’s cell phone records from June 16 — the day investigators believe something may have happened to her daughter Caylee — show she made nearly a dozen calls in less than five hours, records obtained by Fox News Channel showed.

Anthony called her mother seven times, her dad once, her boyfriend and two other friends, the records showed.

The woman’s cell records from June 17 were not available but on June 18, the records showed Casey Anthony tried calling her mom and dad six times in less than an hour.

Investigators are using cell-tower mapping to pinpoint the areas where the calls were made.

Attorney Questions Timeline

Casey Anthony’s attorney, Jose Baez, said he finds it odd that investigators are zeroing in on three dates in June.

Video shot on June 15 shows Caylee Anthony reading a book at a table.

However, deputies are pointing to June 16 as the day something happened to Caylee, Local 6’s Erik von Ancken said.

Detectives said on June 17, Casey Anthony borrowed a shovel from a neighbor and on June 18 the woman was spotted backing up her car to her family’s garage.

“I have not heard that theory,” Cindy Anthony said. “Out of their mouths today, to me, all of them (said) they’re looking for a missing child. That’s what I’m doing. I’m looking for a missing child. And that is what I’m asking the public to do.”

Publicly, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said 100 percent of their resources are going into finding Caylee Anthony.

Privately, detectives admitted that Casey Anthony is just as much a focus of their investigation, Local 6 reported.

Cadaver Dogs Records Requested

During the initial investigation into Caylee Anthony’s investigation, two different cadaver dogs hit on the same spot in the child’s grandparents back yard.

Deputies said the dogs were trained to locate gases given off by a decomposing human.

However, the missing child’s grandmother said the dogs could have been confused by their handlers.

“I went online this morning and read up on a lot of cadaver dogs,” Cindy Anthony said on in July. “Cadaver dogs could be cued by their owner.”

It appears this mother bit off more than she could handle with a child, even with family support. Her existing emotional problems were exacerbated and she reacted badly to the accidental death, likely drowning.

She buried the child, hid the evidence and to rationalize this she reverted to her ability to lie and actually believe it.

The term used for this condition is psychopathy. She fits the bill, and it's rare for a female but not unknown. usually it is males, who have a tendency to hide emotions and it eats them up inside.

I'm not a professional, but I once stayed in a Holiday Inn.....:-)

Where is the police sketch artist’s rendition of the babysitter/kidnapper? I’ve not heard mention one about the absence of such a likeness. If this person exists, and Casey had been taking Caylee to stay with her for a while, Casey should be able to provide an accurate description of her. Has she done so? And if she hasn’t, what possible reason could she give for not doing so?

I agree. She did something dumb, like left Caylee in a car doped up on Benedryl or something to make her sleep, while she was partying and she died. Or she accidentally ingested drugs (Casey went to the hospital for seizures, seizures are not uncommon with ecstasy- a club drug) and died.

Yes, I know that. My point was that nobody has said anything about the fact that no sketch artist’s rendition of the alleged babysitter/kidnapper has been forthcoming. This is a glaring absence, it seems to me. If such a person really existed, Casey would be able to describe her; and if she refused to do so, that in itself would be a loud statement about her story. News reporters should be clamoring to see such a sketch, and they should certainly be asking the grandparents (who never miss an opportunity to stand in front of a camera and microphone) why no such sketch has been produced.
