Most all motorists either ignore or wave or honk to us.
Most all passers by either ignore or make a polite comment to us.
Occasionally we get the "bring them home!" shouted at us as a car drives by. Sometimes we hear this from someone walking by us as well.
Rarely do we get more, but we have seen the occasional bird flipped at us, and long-time readers will know that we've had a couple of other incidents as well. But not often and it goes to show the good nature of Washington DC residents that no matter what their views on our president and our venture in Iraq they do indeed support the troops.
Then there are the crazies.
And on this particular evening we had the displeasure of meeting a verifiable DC kook. We termed him "Crazy Man", as that was just about what there was to it.
Before we got there he put up posters on the light posts just outside the entrance to Walter Reed attacking the president and with a page from The Washington Post showing pictures of the most recently killed troops.
Mrs. Trooprally noticed them when she arrived and immediately took them down. He came back not long after I got there at about 6:45. He cursed and threatened us and swore he'd put them back up ane he'd beat our ass if we took them down. "You're all Nazis!" and "Go back to Germany!" were some of his other insults.
Here he is taping one of them up
And here it is after we took it down
Here are some closeups that I took the next day
Nice, huh? Right outside the main entrance to a major rehabilitation hospital for our wounded warriors.
He continued to berate us and warn us not to take them down. He ranted and raved and carried on about how he had to listen to us every week and he was fed up with us. Seeing that he was unstable, I limited myself to asking him to calm down. He didn't but in a calm voice I did advise him that we had freedom of speech rights too, and as such were within our rights to take his posters down. More importantly, I let him know that we all had cell phones and that any more threats and we would phone the police.
He eventually wandered off, and as soon as he did Cindy-True-Supporter took his posters down. No way was she going to let him disgrace this place of honor!
Ironically, despite Crazy Man's insistence the he represented the neighborhood residents who "were fed up with us", we got several "thank you's" from walking passers-by who obviously lived in the neighborhood. Did I mention that he seemed unstable?
As promised, a short while later Crazy Man came back and saw that we'd taken down his posters. He demanded to see our permit. Mr Trooprally declined, telling him that we had no obligation to justify ourselves to him and that we would only show our permit to the proper authorities. He muttered more obscenities and said that he was going to call the police. He wandered off, presumably to do just that.
A short time later, just as promised,Crazy Man came back. This time he stayed up the street from us a bit, apparently waiting for a police car to come take us all to jail.
The whole thing got a bit funny because whenever a police car came down the street he would wave his arms, trying to flag it down. None stopped for him, to our amusement. Our theory was that he's a known crazy and the cops are use to his shenanigans.
Here he is, waiting the the police who never came
All very interesting about Crazy Man, but we do have some regular business to attend to. So without further ado, here are tonights Honor Roll of Attendees: Your author Tom the Redhunter, Cindy-True-Supporter, Fraxinus, kburi, Lurker Bill, PleaDeal, RonGKirby, Sensi Ern, Mr & Mrs Trooprally, VA Flag Waver, VictoryNY, Alicia, Olney-Keith, Dan from Manassas, Honest Conservative, 3DJoy and her grandson Sam, and LoRo.
Here are another good few photos of FReepers that evening. First is 3DJoy and her grandson

VictoryNY kept up everyone's spirits with her enthusiasm!
Here I am with Cindy-True-Supporter
In addition, for a short time the unofficial Poet-Laureate of the Capitol was with us, "Burt" Caswell. None of what he writes is online, but you can get a sample in this AAR I wrote a few months ago in which I included one of his tributes to one of our fallen warriors.
Honest Conservative also has a blogtalk radio show. Check out her shows!
Honest Conservative told me that she'd spent the day up on Capitol Hill. She'd gotten a gallery pass and wanted to go in and see them giving their speeches etc trying to get Pelosi to call Congress back in session so we can have a vote on the energy bill. What crazyness! It's obvious that the Democrats know that the American people don't buy their spin and want to open up drilling offshore and in ANWAR. That's why they're afraid of a vote.
Here she is:

During all this two soldiers, still behind the fence surrounding the hospital, came up behind Mr Trooprally's corner. They just wanted to talk and say thank you to us. As you may imagine, it always feels a bit awkward having them thank us. We of course thanked them and told them we appreciated all that they did. One was from the 10th Mountain Division and the other the 1st Armored Division.
Here you can see them behind the fence talking to the FReepers
In the end the troop bus came a record early time, 9:04 by my watch. The Pinkos hadn't even packed up yet, but they're safely down the road where the returning troops don't have to see them. Normally we pack up after the troop bus comes, but this time we stayed until every one of the Pinkos had left. No way we're going to leave them alone at Walter Reed.
Here's a very good photo of the troop bus as taken by PleaDeal

We suspected that Crazy Man might come back the next day and repost his signs, so made plans accordingly. Sure enough he was back, and Cindy-True-Supporter sends this follow up:
Tom the Redhunter,I went by WRAMC today to see if our angry Obamaite had put up his hate messages. Yes, he had, half the way to McDonalds. I ended up taking five down. Unfortunately, he happened around the corner, and seemed to recognize me. I'm sure he has another batch up. Alicia is going to Reed tomorrow, and will take down any new ones.
I did stop by the WRAMC police dept. to make them aware of this angry man who seems to keep vigil of the grounds. Mrs. Trooprally is going to print me a picture of him to take to the police next Friday. I know off post is not in their jurisdiction, and putting up the signs is a protected right of expression. However, I just want them to be more aware of the situation. The policeman did agree that taking down the signs could be interpreted as my free expression.

D.C. Chapter Ping

Keep up your good work, and one of the days, I hope to join you again.
God bless you all!
Excellent report as always, Tom!
I’m not sure if you are on the DC Ping list or not Honest... I’m so glad you were able to come down for the weekend!!
Thank you from someone who would LIKE to be there but lives on the west coast!
I look like the smell of libs has turned my tummy.
It was great fun.
Thanks for the link. Printing it out now just for future reference. It will be with our corner permits.
I was actually hoping the police would come. When I refused to show him the permits and he said he was going to call the police, I told him to call because as you pointed out, it is illegal to post un-permitted signs, and he threatened us. Not like we really to him seriously so long as we had constant eye-sight of him.
We’ve been told by other neighbors that they appreciate us being there. In addition to our support of the troops, with us there, the police wondering around more often and the drug dealers have moved on.
[Mr] T
Nice report. Thanks for the time doing it.
[Mr] T
“In addition to our support of the troops, with us there, the police wondering around more often and the drug dealers have moved on.”
Maybe you just hit on the REAL reason crazy man is mad at you!
ROTFLOL. Yea, that’s it.
Hey all! Though I am concerned about the weather tonight, I will be there, weather permitting. If it is dry early, I’ll be there early. If it is raining early, I’ll be there after the rain lifts. If it is raining all night, well, I’ll be there in spirit.
Don from Manassas was also in attendance that evening.
BUMP
Nazis? Go back to Germany? Hey, which one of you is from Germany? Could have swore you were all homegrown.... hahaha
Goodness, you folks do have fun! We got “Kill Whitie” from a White guy who drove by last Friday night. One guy told us how crazy we were. But when he said that he was for partial birth abortion, I told him to be on his way because he is evil. But the best one of the night was the supposed biochemist with the two dogs. He said they were Obama supporters. I pointed out that I didn’t think so, since they can’t vote. Hey, I thought that it was better than pointing out that they were dogs, and as such only care about being fed, petted, walked, playing, and sleeping. I should have asked if they were for Obama based on his stance on issues, or popularity. Ah hindsight. Anyway, he called me a racist and said I hate Obama. Not true, and that it is funny because I’m bi-racial. He then stated that there is no such thing as race. Huh? How could I be racist if there is race doesn’t exist. And if it doesn’t exist then, Obama isn’t Black? This stuff is too could. He was so upset that he nearly ran from the corner. Wow. And I didn’t even have the Holy Water.
Keep up the great work! You folks are the best!
