VENTURA, California — The family of a gay teenager who was fatally shot in class blames the school district for allowing their son to wear makeup and feminine clothing to school — factors the family claims led to the death.

Like the parents aren’t at fault?

Seems to me that they could have said, “No.”

King was a ward of the court and living at a shelter for abused, neglected and emotionally troubled children at the time of the shooting.

But it's the school's fault and not the parents.

Right....

Lets say that the school aided and abetted this childs delusions and even helped him gain independcne from his family and live in a shelter. Relying on social workers to parent the kid. And they wonder why the child acted out his fanasies and why others reacted strongly?

I hope his shooter’s parents sue the school for not protecting him from sexual abuse.

They should just make a case against George Bush, if they are going to blame someone ELSE and pass the buck. Bush wants male/female marriage, after all, which must have made this girly/boy feel bad. And then Bush does NOT wear make-up, and that could have made this girly/boy feel bad too.

Plus, Bush has more money than any school district, so if they are going for deep pockets, that’s where they should look.

Disgusting. Who bought the girl clothes? Who bought the make-up? Who’s on first?

That’s exactly what the Mom did, encouraged the little pervert. And he was stalking the boy who eventually shot him, hitting on him and making comments suggesting that the other boy was gay, and threatening to tell the school that they two of them were having sex. The kid eventually snapped and killed him.

I dont know whether they opted out. If they were against their son wearing makeup the child would have been taken from them because of their homophobia and placed in a more understanding enviroment. Our children do not belong to us anymore. Dont you understand?

Think about it. There is reason for everything no matter how outrageous.

Of all the players involved, I’d have to give the biggest benefit of the doubt to the kid who pulled the trigger.

If what lady lawyer said in post 17 is true about the situation, that kid at least can make some claim to duress. Those are not the sorts of things straight boys are likely to tolerate well.

Killing the kid is over the top, but when you’re dealing with hormone crazed teens and there’s no knowing how far this pervert was going in his harassment of the other kid, I’d be more inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

There is allot more going on in this story, the kids was a ward of the state living in a facility to help abused people recover.

The murder is *not* the schools fault no matter how moronic it is to let boys wear makeup and girls cloths.

Being an out-there homosexual is enough to qualify for the facility esp if you have a powerful lesbian principal involved/

A ward of the state for a reason. I suspect that it had to do with the parenting.

Why they should be upset that the school didn’t enforce the dress code when they obviously couldn’t enforce their parental authority before it got to the point of the kid ending up in state care, is beyond me.

Besides, what’s a kid in that kind of mental condition that he’s under special care away from home, doing being allowed to go to school unsupervised anyway?

15-year-old Larry King of Oxnard

This is going to be considered frivolous, it wasn't the makeup and clothing, it was his name that got him shot.

She's been promoted to principal of an elementary school, actually. http://www.venturacountystar.com/news/2008/aug/15/county-schools-face-king-claims/

"Assistant Principal Joy Epstein, the only person named in the complaint, is accused of encouraging the boy to wear "women's clothing, shoes and makeup." She created an environment of "perceived safety" for King when "in fact she could not and did not protect Larry from the threats and ultimate death," the claim says.

Epstein, who has been promoted to the principalship of Sunkist School, did not return a call seeking comment. But Dannenberg said the claims against her are absolutely false."
