Posted on 08/17/2008 1:25:32 AM PDT by Schnucki
Whoa. My morning news perusal has brought me several stories discussing Obama's hair color, and the very important debate about whether he has a little Revlon secret.
New York Magazine posted two images of Obama from Getty; the one on the left is from July 27th, and the one on the right is from yesterday.
"Barack Obama has begun talking about how he's 'going gray' lately, and it's true -- the man's hair is going silver faster than you can say 'Anderson Cooper with a tan.' So fast, in fact, that we have to wonder at the legitimacy of it. Just last month, Obama's longtime barber said he'd never dyed Obama's hair darker -- implying that the candidate's youthful color is stress-resistant.
But within the last week, the candidate has mysteriously gone nearly fully gray.
We hate to call the effects of age into question, but doesn't it look like he's dying his hair to look more distinguished?"

After seeing the discussion on FR about Obama's hair turning gray between his Hawaii vacation which ended recently and the rick warren thing last night, I went looking around to see if this was noticed elsewhere.
Remember lurch and his orange fake and bake tan before the debates.
I wonder if Obama is trying to put some grey in so he’ll look more mature in the looming dabates.
Obama seeks gravitas through hair dye.
What a phoney!
As much as I’d prefer not to give Barry the benefit of the doubt about anything, stress and fatigue really do cause gray hair in some folks. It can come on very quickly.
At least he’s not changing his skin color.....like Kerry did.
maybe it’s the other way...dyeing it black all this time and now has stopped.
It can happen.
Perhaps BO is truly frightened that he's in over his black-haired head. No pun intended.
He’s obviously trying to get the black out of his hair, for what reason who knows?
I think Obama is definitely dyeing it gray. Speaking of hair, I wish Senator McCain would stop doing the combover thing. Giuliani stopped doing it last year and he looks a lot better now. I give him a lot more respect because of it.
The man had noticable TAN LINES in Hawaii:
Our first HALFrican American presidential nominee...
V... for VERY PALE.
See post 12. He went to Hawaii to work on his tan before the convention.
Link to the original Yahoo/AP photo to show that the photo reference was NOT a FReeper hoax.
OK, ya’ll are probably going to laugh, but - my eldest daughter pulled a fast one on my husband and I and dyed her hair black the other day (I’m not happy...). Anyway, the dye she used was a good one. Her hair matches Obama’s previous hair color. A color of black usually only achieved by those with Asian genes. Obama’s hair may be curly, but the “jet” blackness of his previous color to me indicated a definite hair coloring habit. His gray hair actually looks MUCH more natural than his hair before (and nicer, really). I definitely think he’s letting it grow out and the gray is a natural color. It would be VERY hard to dye one’s hair gray with it that short and have it look that natural.
This inexperienced turd doesn’t know how the National Command Authority is structured - “I’d call in my Joint Chiefs of Staff and issue them a new mission...” - and the media talk is about his graying hair?
In all fairness, this isn’t a main-stream media outlet taking up this discussion. It’s a photography blog.
I agree, this is a non-issue. As a side note, every hair on my body went white about 6 weeks after I have a very bad leg break. It was from shock and stress. I was only 42 at the time and much of the white turned back, at least for a few years. Now almost 20 years later I have less white hair than I did just after the accident.
Now we have the fake grey...
Next come the “smart glasses”...
This guy will do anything to seem like less of a lightweight. Somebody should tell him that sailor suits with shorts make a man look Presidential.
If you lived with Michelle your hair would turn gray!
Didn’t I watch this scene in Shaka Zulu already?
My hair stated turning gray in my early 20s-do you suppose dealing with a controlling, demanding, disabled parent at home and a demanding boss at work six days a week had ANYTHING to do with it?Or maybe it is just genetics?
Well, not yet at least. There's still 10 weeks left!
He’s got spray-on tan lines? :O)
He wants that distinguished Stalin look, with a touch of Mao.
Maybe he could borrow some skin lightener from Michael Jackson.
He wants that distinguished Stalin look, with a touch of Mao.
Clinton did the absolute same thing when he was running for his first election. Within a year he had gone from brownish colored hair to snow white........all in an effort to make him look "Presidential"
Bubba did the same thing. There isn’t an authentic hair on this man’s head or an authentic thought in his head.
Trite, but true.
From my years of hair-coloring experience (my hair) - if it is colored darker to begin with, it will fade especially from the grey hairs first, and spending a lot of time in the sun + a chlorinated pool, and salt water, will definitely ‘lift’ the darker color from the grey hairs more rapidly than normal shampooing does.
I would believe he was going grey to begin with, colored it in an effort to look younger for some reason, and realized that the grey was more ‘presidential’.
Telling the truth would be more presidential also, but dems have never figured that out.
If it is grayer, it is because of stress. He has shown many symptoms of stress- forgetfulness, crankiness, confusion. My beard went white overnight duirng a very stressful time in my life.
The same thing happened to me in the late 70’s (in my teens). Bad leg/hip injuries and then white hair. It eventually went back to the normal color and is just now starting to “highlight” with gray again.
Bill Clinton did the same thing.
Just like the need for judges to overturn laws instead of Congress, libs know they can’t be elected without lying.
My older brother lives out in the country and many years ago he had a yellow dog that roamed freely. One day a neighbor came and told him that he had shot a yellow dog with a high powered rifle. He told my brother that he wasn’t sure because he was shooting at a long distance but he thought he might have shot my brother’s dog. He said he was sorry if that was the case but the dog was chasing his cattle all around so he had to do something before his cattle started dying from the stress.
They went and looked for the dog but could not find it, my brother’s dog didn’t come home so he assumed that it had died in some place where they could not see it. Weeks later the yellow dog showed up with GRAY, almost white, hair and you could clearly see where the rifle bullet had passed through just low enough below the spine that it only broke ribs and not the spine. The wound was about halfway between front and rear legs. The wound had completely healed but the scar was easily visible for the rest of the dog’s life. Nobody has any idea how that dog survived but it was a gray dog from then on.
body surfing turns hair gray
I even dyed my hair that color once years ago when I started to go gray. Now my hair is a stylish shade I call taupe because I still have about half dark half light.
“maybe its the other way...dyeing it black all this time and now has stopped.”
That’s my guess, stylin19a. The guy really is very vain. (And it wasn’t until he was voted in to the US Senate a couple of years ago that his accomplishments as an ambitious HLS grad were well matched to his years.)
Wait and see.
My hair started turning grey when I was in my early-20s as well... I was married early and had a child at that time, but I can’t say it was MORE stressful than my childhood... Anyway, the interesting thing is that it’s just at the top of my head in the front to the right - directly behind my bangs... Now I look like Rogue (from X-Men) if I don’t dye my hair - and people have asked me if I did it on purpose! LOL I just find it strange because while the section of hair turning white is growing gradually, I haven’t started getting gray hairs anywhere else! In fact, the rest of my hair has turned darker with age! (I’m 36 now...).
I think that’s the opposite of what Obama wants though. He’s nice and dark now that he took that trip to Hawaii. That will score points with those who think race/skin color has something to do with who you should vote for - the darker the better to fit in with his “First African-American President” (wannabe) image, really.
LOL at the “Waitress Black”. What’s wild is that the color is SO deep it almost looks navy blue on my daughter in the sunlight. It’s pretty on her - rather striking really - but it’s going to take me a while to get used to her hair (her natural color is a medium shade of reddish-brownish-blonde - LOL).
I’m still going back and forth between dying my hair, and just letting it grow in as is - I mentioned in a previous post that when I don’t dye my hair I look like Rogue from X-Men. A patch of white at the top that frames my face on the sides! LOL The ironic thing is people have asked me if I bleached that part on purpose?!?! Too funny...
Did you do the aging? What software package did you use?
My daughter did her hair the same way and when I made a comment she went the opposite way and bleached it pure white. KIDS!
My hair is more silvery around my face and darker in the back too. I also have a white spot (a bullseye?) right in back. I decided NOT to color my gray when people started commenting that I had “the most beautiful hair color how did I get it that way?” (I am female BTW) I would reply “don’t mess with mother nature”. LOL!
This is very scary, next we will demand to know boxers or jockeys; when a man gets this far it usually means he is already so familiar that his presidency is as certain as the mediocrity; in other words the stylists have already accepted him, warts and all.
The editors used Photoshop & this is what they said they did:
- Used the Burn and Dodge tools to deepen wrinkles and paint in age spots.
- Cloned the eyebrows and moved them lower.
- Used the Liquify filter to hollow out cheeks, make jowls, thin out lips, and enlarge ears and noses.
- For Clinton and Obama, brought in forehead wrinkles from separate photos and used the Match Color tool to blend them in.
- For Obama, painted in gray hair on top of his current hair; for Clinton, desaturated with the Sponge tool to make her grayer.
