Last week, I wrote that Barack Obama, as an Illinois state senator, opposed a bill to define as a "person" a fully born baby who survived an abortion. Obama opposed this bill, I wrote, even after an amendment was offered to it that mirrored language included in a virtually identical federal bill that won a 98 to zero vote in the U.S. Senate after Sen. Barbara Boxer said the language in question protected Roe v. Wade.

Obama, I reported, killed the Illinois bill by holding it in a committee he chaired, never calling a vote so it could be sent to the full Senate. This, I have since been informed, was incorrect.

Although the Illinois General Assembly's online bill tracking system indicates the bill was "held" in Obama's Health and Human Services Committee in 2003, former Sen. Rick Winkel, who sponsored it, and Sen. Dale Righter, then the committee's ranking Republican, both tell me that written records kept by Illinois Senate Republicans indicate Obama did bring the bill up for a vote and then voted against it. The bill, as amended, lost that vote four to six. In 2001, Republican Sen. Rick Santorum offered the federal version of the Born Alive Infants bill as an amendment. Boxer gave a floor speech explaining why it did not threaten Roe and why Democrats would vote for it.

"(H)is amendment certainly does not attack Roe in any way," said Boxer. "His amendment makes it very clear that nothing in this amendment gives any rights that are not yet afforded to a fetus. Therefore, I, as being a pro-choice senator on this side, representing my colleagues here, have no problem whatsoever with this amendment."

A package of Born Alive bills was introduced three times during Obama’s tenure.

The cornerstone bill was the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which defined legal personhood. This definition was identical to the federal BAIPA (1) which was drafted from the definition of “live birth” created by the World Health Organization in 1950 (2) and adopted by the United Nations in 1955 (3)....

Here I will only post links to Obama’s actions and votes on the cornerstone bill, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. The bill number changed every year it was reintroduced.

Democrats took control of the IL Senate with the 2002 elections. They sent Born Alive to the infamously liberal Health & Human Services Committee, chaired by Barack Obama (13).

As can be seen on the Actions docket (14), Obama held Born Alive on March 6, 2003, from even being voted on in committee. It is also important to note from the docket that on March 13, 2003, Obama stopped the senate sponsor from adding the lately discussed clarification paragraph (15) from the federal BAIPA, to make the bills absolutely identical.

Obama More Than An Abortion Radical

The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) recently paid Sen. Barack Obama an undue compliment by suggesting he is an abortion radical. If you look at his whole record on abortion, it suggests he has gone beyond being a radical to being firmly enshrined in the lunatic fringe.

In reaching its conclusion, the NRLC focused on Mr. Obama’s opposition to the Illinois Born-Alive Infant Protection Bill. This was a bill designed to protect infants after live births, whether or not as a consequence of an abortion procedure.

One of the crusaders for that bill was nurse Jill Stanek, who worked at the Christ Hospital in the southwestern suburbs of Chicago. A mother came in for a second trimester abortion and had what is called an “induced labor abortion” or “prostaglandin abortion.” In this procedure, the doctor administers drugs to dilate the mother’s cervix and to induce contractions. This forces a small baby out of the mother’s womb, and most of the time the baby dies in utero during such an abortion, killed by the contractions.

In the case in question, the baby was one of those born alive. Under such circumstances, the baby is not treated but simply left to die. A nurse was told to put this baby in the soiled utility closet to die (the hospital later claimed there were “comfort rooms” used for such dying babies; some comfort). Ms. Stanek offered to take the baby instead.

She said, “I couldn’t let him die alone. And so I held him for the 45 minutes that he moved. He moved a little bit. Of course he didn’t cry.” Ms. Stanek says she was horrified and went to work in Christ Hospital thinking because of its name, abortion and such other practices would not be tolerated. But she later found that Christ Hospital is aligned with two Christian denominations that support legal abortions, of which one is Mr. Obama’s old denomination, the United Church of Christ.

What happened to that little baby sounded more like murder than abortion to Ms. Stanek so she complained to the attorney General of Illinois. He investigated and found under Illinois laws this murder by neglect, infanticide, or whatever you choose to call it was perfectly legal.

So Ms. Stanek started to crusade for legislation to get protection for such “born-alive” babies. Her Illinois state senator introduced Senate Bill 1095, the so-called “Born-Alive” bill.

SB 1095 clearly applied only to babies born alive, and could not be interpreted to somehow outlaw otherwise legal abortions. The language of the bill is as follows: “As used in this Section, the term ‘born alive,’ with respect to a member of the species homo sapiens, means the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of that member, at any stage of development, who after that expulsion or extraction breathes or has a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, regardless of whether the umbilical cord has been cut and regardless of whether the expulsion or extraction occurs as a result of natural or induced labor, cesarean section, or induced abortion.” Then the bill gives such live child the full rights and protection of a human being. That is essentially the whole bill....

Again, this just goes to show what type of regard Obambi has for the American people.... through all of his privileged education, from private schools in Hawaii to his Harvard education and even his position as the editor of the Harvard Law Review, Obambi has NEVER had to work for a damn thing. His elitist mentality shines through every time he opens his mouth.... deny, deny, deny... say whatever you need to in order to get elected b/c the American people are of a simple mind which is paranoid and “gun-clingy”. How about this one? Soetoro-Obama is an empty umbilical cord. It's kind of obvious that he did not bond well with his mother, his non-existent father, his step/ADOPTED LEGAL father, his grandfather or his grandmother. He seems to have distanced himself from anyone for fear of being associated and classified with them. Even his closest friend, "Frank" whose ideology he absorbed, was still kept at a distance. I think Soetoro-Obama attempted to define himself as a "Black" based only on his conception of what it meant to be "Black" in the USofA and not on any true historically referenced "Black."

Soetoro-Obama has NO American Black History connected to his choice of "color" and I think this is an area that could/should be exploited by Republicans. Soetoro-Obama cannot "relate" to USofA Blacks because it was not his father or Adopted-father who was a US Citizen who marched in any Civil Rights parades. Even his mother did not participate in USofA Civil Rights activities. She was too busy being "into" herself and her fascination with other cultures.

This trait of Soetoro-Obama's was never more publicized than during the Rick Warren tv show (and that's what it was, a show). Barry Soetoro-Obama did not speak with empathy and understanding, he danced around the issues and made himself the topic of each question and answer. Barry Soetoro-Obama has no personalized answers for any questions. Barry O' still wants to please and win the affection of that non-existent father figure. Barry O' had a lot of male attention from his Adopted-Father since it is known that Barry O' went to mosque with Lolo Soetoro in Jakarta, Indonesia. He must have had male roll models in his grandfather and his mentor, "Frank" (the Communist Party USA member, Frank Marshall Davis), if Barry O's books are to be believed. And yet, with ALL this, he had to create his own definition of "Black in the USofA." Because he had no direct connection with being "Black in the USofA."

Here we have a man who doesn't know who he is running for the Presidency of the Greatest Nation on this Earth? Are voters so attracted to his "searching for me" persona that they support his candidacy without considering who Barry O' is on a rational basis?

Barry Soetoro-Obama is NOT a Fredrick Douglass or a Martin Luther King. He has no historical reference to the USofA prior to his birth to a Kenyan father who was "just passing through" and a liberal white person mother. Besides, both Douglass and King were Republicans.
