Daschle: America Focused on Iraq, Could Have "Avoided" Georgia Violence

August 17, 2008 12:20 PM

ABC News' Ayana Harry Reports: Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle D-S.D. represented the Obama campaign discussing the Russia-Georgia conflict on "This Week with George Stephanopoulos."

In a debate with Republican Mitt Romney, Daschle maintained "If we would have preemptively worked with Russia, with Georgia, making sure that NATO had the kind of ability and the presence and the engagement, we could have perhaps avoided this."

Pure meltdown mode as they realize they hitched their wagon to a Shitland Pony while we have a Clidesdale.

If Slick Willie had not been focused on Lewinsky, we could have avoided 09-11-01. What’s your point Tommy?

Well, there’s some truth in it. Bush must have had intelligence what was coming down the pike, but for whatever reason—maybe MORE bad advice from the State Department and the CIA—failed to take such obvious measures as giving Georgia the means of blowing up or temporarily closing the access tunnel.

But unfortunately Daschle is the last man to do anything like that. He and his pals would have blocked any such measures if they possibly could, and criticized them if they couldn’t.

Who cares about what a failed Democrat senator has to say? What next? An extensive analysis from Jimmy Carter?

Debate? Strange...they didn’t report what Romney said. Oh......wait a minute, it’s ABC.

Daschle was asked if he’d accept an offer from Obama to run as VP. IDIOTS! Daschle lost his re-election as senator in ‘04, he couldn’t even carry his own state then and couldn’t now as a VP candidate.

Hindsight is usually 20/20 but in the case of liberals it is even more warped and backwards than a carnival mirror.

Dancing Daschle needs to be the inaugural recipient of the “Clear-Sighted Monday Morning Quarterback Award”.

This award needs to be funded by the DNC and declared a traveling trophy which gets awarded annually...with allowances for repeat winners..

Obambi needs an insider, someone with lots of D C experience and acumen in foreign affairs. I’ve read that Daschle and Obambi are very close friends and that Obama seeks and trusts Daschle’s counsel immensely (just like Cheney was and is to Bush). I agree with you, Daschle would be a dream pick for our side, but I think Obambi is looking for what he and Axelrod believe is a “safe” pick, yet someone who can still help him deflect questions about his lack of experience. I think Dashcle and Biden have probably moved to the top of the messiah’s list.

We could have avoided a lot of things if we didn't have...

The Democrat "No Domestic Energy Policy?"

All of that puts the U.S. in a position that war for oil or
complete economic collapse will be our only choices.
You can't frustrate every source of domestic energy
without consequences. Our enemies will blackmail us
to the extent that we are vulnerable to blackmail.

The Democrats are leading us into a real war for oil.
A war we won't have the energy to fight.

My hindsight is more accurate than your hindsight, Tiny Tommy.

As the facts have emerged, it seems evident that the Russian build up to the invasion took place over months, and must have been spotted by our observation satellites.

I don’t know whether we responsed or not to that with diplomatic messages (some people speculate that Bush gave permission to go in, but ONLY in defense of the “Russians” in the two trouble spots, and was lied to by Putin’s assurances), but we don’t seem to have supplied Georgia with a key essential—some means to close down the tunnel through which the Russian tanks had to come.

Unfortunately, it is pure guesswork as to why we didn’t take any preventive measures. Once the Russians got sufficient forces into Georgia, it was too late to block them.

Alright, how would the President know what foreign leaders are going to do from moment to moment?
Being Democrats have the House and Senate and many of them get the same security briefings, what is supposed to be their responsibility in this whole manner of reading minds and the future?
