You don’t know how I feel when you post those wonderful pictures.
They always make me think of my Dad. He started out on steam engines, right after his WWII tour was over.
The ATSF sent him to Chicago to learn diesel engines. He did very well, but he was almost never home. He was “riding the rails” all the time to take care of mechanical problems.
I remember when I was just a sprout, I thought my Dad owned all those trains. Hey, it made sense to a 6 year old.
Still, while my Dad was away so often, we still had a home, food, clothes, and all that other good stuff we didn’t have to worry about..... because my Dad was doing whatever it took to take care of his family.
He didn’t expect the government to do it for him.
I have alot of respect for my Dad. A lifelong Democrat, the last vote he cast was for Dubya. He finally got it.
FF had a teeney emergency... long story, boring too, all is well!
Thank you for that wonderful post. Obviously you loved your Dad very much and miss him terribly.
Watch for todays photograph of engine 489. She has her coming out party at 10 a.m. this morning (Wednesday) and the crew has been working all night on her as if it was the night before the Rose Parade!
