Coca-Cola celebrates Ramadan

Coca-Cola plans to celebrate Ramadan this year by decorating cans with a crescent moon and star – a widely recognized Islamic symbol.

Coca-Cola has hired a company named ATTIK to handle packaging, Brand Republic reports. Its Christmas cans are usually decorated with secular-themed images of Santa Claus, but McCartney asked the company whether it planned to introduce Christian symbols as well.

"When I learned the symbol of the Islamic faith will appear on Coca-Cola packaging during Ramadan 2008, I found myself wondering whether or not the Atlanta-based soft drink maker will soon include the Christian cross and Jewish star of David in future holiday packaging designs targeting people of those faiths," he wrote.

Hold on, hold on...how stupid is it of Coca-cola (and how insulting) to be introducing artwork on their product that commemorates a religous festival that is basically a fast period, when devout Muslims are not supposed to be drinking or eating anything anyway?

Wheres the logic in that?

You can always try RC Cola.

Personally, I prefer Pepsi. Must be because I’m originally from eastern NC.

"Have a Coke and a Smile"

Perhaps, after being burnt to a crisp.

"Sabira Sultana, 30, is seen reflected in a mirror as she makes up at her home in Jhelum, Pakistan Wednesday, July 24, 2008. While being pregnant Sabira was burnt with gasoline by her husband for not giving enough dowry upon their marriage. ..."

"Saira Liaqat, 26, poses for the camera as she holds a portrait of herself before being burnt, at her home in Lahore, Pakistan, Wednesday, July 9, 2008. When she was 15, Saira was married to her relative who would later attack her after insistently demanding her to live with him, although the families had agreed she wouldn't join him until she finished school..."

"Shameem Akhter, 18, poses for a photograph at her home in Jhang, Pakistan, Wednesday, July 10, 2008. Three years ago three boys threw acid on her...."

"Attiya Khalil, 16, poses for a photograph at her home in Lahore, Pakistan, Wednesday, July 9, 2008. Attiya's face was burnt with acid thrown by relatives of a neighbor boy whom she rejected for marriage around 3 years ago...."

Are those Slavic names? Swedish? Plenty more at...

Quite frankly, I don't care............they are doing this in select middle eastern countries to sell more of their product.

It's just a marketing strategy.

The stuff isn't healthy anyway.

It's just a marketing strategy.

If that's true then Coca Cola may have just created a big muzzie no no. The symbol is not to be used for profit. If Islam doesn't react then it could very well be they are using as the first step to promote Islam worldwide.

Coke is dead to me... Screw the anti-American company. Either they put the Star of David and the Cross on their cans or I will never buy another Coke as long as I live.

In a globalizing world, Ramadan presents an opportunity to showcase the true values of Islam and what it stands for," it said.

There's an idea. Probably won't sell a lot of soda, however.

I’m addicted to Coke. Damn them!

I'm addicted to diet coke and still will drink it. I actually am hoping that this will allow them to use Christian type cans along with Ramadan. I have no issue with them using it as long as it is fair across the board. A nice menorah might be pretty nice.

“Quite frankly, I don’t care............they are doing this in select middle eastern countries to sell more of their product.”

So why don’t they do it here? Are we to support companies that appease Muslims. Muslims who will kill us just for not being muslim?

“The stuff isn’t healthy anyway.”

That is true.
