PART ONE: The Foot Soldiers
Well, you did it. A few weeks ago, we reported the incredible 2nd Quarter grassroots contributions totaling $637,137 compared to Congressman Murtha’s $113,155.
A fluke? A few months of accidental luck? Well, the July totals tell a different story. Because of your continued vigilance and sacrificial support, we’ve now raised an additional $400,000 in the month of July! That’s right, $400,000 in July alone.
Here’s the quick math.
The first and second quarter totals combined shattered the $900,000 mark. When you add in July’s contributions, the new total is $1.3 million dollars.
Here’s some even bigger news. The majority of the money we’re raising (3/4ths of it) is coming from an average, grassroots contribution of $50.

PART TWO: The Generals
The political professionals call it “viability” - the determination that a campaign is really winnable. One of the surest signs of viability is the support of the pros - political veterans and national leaders.
This week, in addition to conservative opinion leaders like Michelle Malkin, we picked up major financial support from some national political stars, Secretary and Mrs. Donald Rumsfeld and Senator Fred Thompson.
More than their big checks, these American patriots are going on the line and on the record for Bill Russell.
We simply cannot thank them enough.

Me, too. LTC Russell has his work cut out for him, but I am very impressed by his fundraising. And the man was on active duty and couldn’t campaign during July!
Oh my! That is great then! I’ve been following Lt. Col. Allen West in Florida’s 22nd district ... Seems like we have a lot of heroes running. I hope they all get elected!
I actually exchanged correspondence with Allen West a few years ago. He seems like a very good man, and I wish him well.

Who says it’s all outside money? I guarantee you’ll find plenty of folks in that district who want to get rid of that Marine-smearing jerk.
I don’t know if Bill Russell will win, but I applaud him for stepping up and trying. God bless him and many others like him across the country. In this anti-incumbent mood, who knows what might occur?

Did you guys (the ping list) already have a thread on the Thompson/Rummy support? I looked, but didn’t see anything.
I haven’t seen anything about Rummy that I recall but there has been info about Thompson. Smooth has posted most of the threads and he would know for sure.
Hey ...just because I think beating Murtha is next to impossible doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to be wrong!

I think defeating Murtha will be tough, but not next to impossible. The ex-Marine got nearly 61% two years ago, but his opponent Diana Irey didn’t have as much money or any big-name supporters like Rummy or Fred (to my knowledge). And Bill Russell, being a veteran, has an advantage that Irey never had in potentially drawing veteran votes away from Murtha (due to his smearing of the Haditha Marines and demeaning our war effort in general).
Plus, with this being a Presidential year, I expect the voter turnout to approximate the turnout from 2004, where Kerry received just over 51% of the district’s votes to Bush’s 48 1/2%. Defeating any incumbent is tough, especially a pork king like Murtha. But Russell is off to a good start.
