WASHINGTON - Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani will give the keynote address at the Republican National Convention next month and Democrat-turned-independent Sen. Joe Lieberman also will take center stage at the GOP gathering.
John McCain's vanquished Republican primary rivals — and a slew of potential McCain running mates — also have speaking roles at the four-day gathering in St. Paul, Minn.
President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, first lady Laura Bush, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lieberman, who was the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2000 and is said to be under consideration for the same role with McCain, will open the convention on Monday, Sept. 1, with speeches that focus on service.

I think Giuliani will give a heckuva speech. And I’m quite happy to see him slotted for a prime speaking role, as that means he is now officially NOT a candidate for VPOTUS.
Most of McCain's other former primary rivals will speak, including former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, ex-Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee, Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who also is mentioned as a potential vice presidential candidates.
At least eight others whose names have been mentioned as potential running mates also are to address the convention, including governors Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, Charlie Crist of Florida, Sarah Palin of Alaska, Jon Huntsman of Utah, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana; former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge; Meg Whitman, the former chief executive and president of eBay, and Carly Fiorina, the former chairwoman and chief executive of Hewlett-Packard Co.
At least those guys don’t caucus with the Democrats in the Senate.
John Calhoun served as VP under both Jake Adams and Jackson, but again that was a different era.
John Tyler started out as a Democrat, switched to the Whigs to run with Harrison, and then upon becoming president began acting like a Democrat again. Henry Clay read him out of the party. His last public effort was to attempt to usurp Lincoln in hosting a peace conference right after the South seceded.
Both Martin van Buren and Millard Fillmore led minor party tickets years after their presidencies were finished.
Theodore Roosevelt attempted to come back to power as a Bull Moose.

Well said. And let's not forget that McCain is trying to highlight the gaping chasm between him and The One in experience in dealing with national security matters. Think that might have factored into this decision just a wee bit? :)

We still live in a dangerous world, and Rudy is one able to really articulate this. Also, this is interesting:

I don’t think you’re concerned about pro-life policies or all the progress that’s been made in that regard these past 7 1/2 years. I think you’re just interested in making noise and throwing a fit.

If you turned your TV on you might have noticed Rudy appearing on just about every channel on a regular basis.
Lieberman thinks it is okay to suck the brains out of babies being born.
Is that someone you want to listen to? Is that someone you want to represent you to the world?
Lieberman has such “good character” that partnered up with Algore!
