Great group, all facets of the “big tent” the GOP should be.
Of course, this thread will soon be full of people who argue about the lineup, as if all Republicans should mindlessly think in lockstep like the Democrats do.
Snicker.
Which country? Mexico?
|
List didn’t show John McCain. Could be a good move. ;-)
Ahhh posting for Mother Russia again?
Jindal?(sp?)
I'm having a hard time finding the small-government conservatives that oppose things like
open-borders and faux global warming. Could you point them out?
I noticed that Joe Lieberman has a speaking spot. Guess he decided he is speaking at the GOP Convention. It is like the world has turned upside down. The 2000 Dem VP candidate speaking in 2008 at the GOP Convention. Who would have thought!
HA! Bueno, amigo! ;^)
Why won’t Duncan Hunter be speaking? Or Ted Nugent?
arggghhh! That was my mistake (not on purpose!)
...and Mel Martinez of Florida before McCain takes the stage.
You must have to be a disconnected nut case to be involved in politics these days.
Yep... he can do so much more for the cause that way. ;-)
I'm glad the GOP has changed their rhetoric but I wish they would also change their policies.Joe Lieberman, 8/20/2008
The tent isn't big enough to include conservatives.
Wednesday
Mitt Romney
Cindy McCain
Meg Whitman
Carly Fiorina
Bobby Jindal
Norm Coleman
Prime time slot is reserved for the unnamed vice presidential nominee.
does that mean the Veep won’t be Romney???
Let’s see ... Cheney, Palin, Thompson, Steele, Jindal ... and some of the others may come around eventually, too.
I think this doesn’t portend well for those who think Pawlenty will be the VP nominee. (My wild guess: John Kasich.)
Nah... if it's one of the identified speakers, they can always fill the original spot with Lindsey Graham or Juan Hernandez.
Third speaker Tuesday?
I thought Ahhnold wasn’t going to the con? Will this be a taped message?
Yeah, boo all the RINOs off the stage!!! Booooo!!!
Cheney is for small government and border enforcement?
I don’t think so!
If he was, how do you judge his 8 year performance?
I usually type LIEberman after the 2000 election. This is just flat out weird. Tells me how bad Obama really is for him to agree to speak at the GOP Convention. I am still sitting here shaking my head because if he had caucused with the GOP in 2007/2008, we would not have had to put up with Harry Reid.
I thought Arnold wasn’t coming as well. Everything else has been strange this election season so you might as well throw in someone who said he wasn’t coming.
Not a bad line up.
Carly scares me a bit
One rumor has it that after his speech, he will be a Republican.
“The 2000 Dem VP candidate speaking in 2008 at the GOP Convention”
well, there WAS that intervening day that changed a lot of minds, in and out of public office.
He’s been a spectacular vice president in a difficult time. I’d say he’s done his best, particularly with his precarious health. Certainly better than you or I could have done.
Let’s hope that the dems don’t respond by getting Colin Powell to speak at the dem convention.
I really like Cheney—I just questioned why you put him on the list as he didn’t fit the description.
Uhm...since when has Cheney been President? Or are you one of those that buy Darth Cheney pulling W’s strings?
Huh?

“”Convention Announces Program Themes and Speaker Lineup
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The 2008 Republican National Convention today announced the themes and preliminary lineup of speakers for the program of events that will run Sept. 1-4. The conventions overall theme, “Country First,” reflects John McCains remarkable record of leadership and service to America. Each day of proceedings will center on a touchstone theme that has defined John McCains life and will be central to his vision for leading our nation forward as president.
“Our convention will showcase a cross-section of leaders who will highlight John McCains long commitment to putting our country first — before self-interest or politics,” said McCain 2008 Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker. “The speakers will address John McCains unmatched record of service and sacrifice for America, and his vision for moving our nation forward to keep us safe and get our economy back on track.”
The roster of speakers announced today includes John McCain, Mrs. Cindy McCain, 10 current and former Republican governors, five current and former U.S. Senators and two well-respected businesswomen. Articles today said that he would be there, as long as he gets over the budget hump.
Arnie rarely gives up the opportunity to speak to a room of fawning fans.
How many tie votes on either issue were there in the past 8 years?
The VP doesn’t really have any powers on which to judge ‘performance’ on substantive issues.
Mel Martinez? Puh-leeeeeeeeeeeeze.............
Too bad they couldn’t reserve one night just for conservatives.
Yep... cuz these days changing the letter next to your name is all it takes to be a Republican. Sad.
Never said he was.
When’s McCain going to speak? What a flailing-armed phony.
Monday evening
Joe Lieberman
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger
Vice President Cheney
First Lady Laura Bush
President Bush.
Looks like I’ll be tuning in late, around the time Cheney is speaking.
RNC Speaking List May Point to Romney as Veep
Posted by Matthew Kilburn on August 20, 2008
The RNC has finally revealed the speaking order for the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis next month. As expected, the list includes Dick Cheney, President Bush, former candidates from the Primaries, and, of course, John McCain and the -still unknown - VP nominee. Rudy Giuliani will be giving the keynote, Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal will both give primetime speeches, and a number of other big name Republicans will also speak.
But an issue surrounding the timing of the speech to be given by fmr. Governor and Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney may indicate that he is the VP nominee. Here is the list:
Monday 9/1:
Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn.
Vice President Dick CheneyMonday primetime (10-11pm Eastern Time)
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif.
President Bush and First Lady Laura BushTuesday 9/2:
Fmr. Gov. Tom Ridge, R-Pa.
Former CA Secretary of State Rosario Marin
Fmr. Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn.
Gov. Linda Lingle, R-Hawaii
Fmr. Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, R-Md.Tuesday prime time (10-11pm Eastern Time)
Gov. Sarah Palin, R-Alaska
Fmr. Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark.
Fmr. Mayor Rudy Giuliani, R-New York City ***KEYNOTER***Wednesday 9/3:
Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn.
Meg Whitman, Ebay CEO
Carly Fiorina, former HP CEO
Fmr. Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass.Wednesday prime time (10-11pm Eastern Time)
Cindy McCain
Vice Presidential nominee
Gov. Bobby Jindal, R-La. (some dispute on time - may go before VP nominee, or after to place J-Macs name into nomination)Thursday 9/4:
Gov. Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn.
Gov. Charlie Crist, R-Fla.
Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kansas
Sen. Mel Martinez, R-FlaThursday prime time (10-11pm Eastern Time)
Sen. John McCain (video before his speech)
So whats wrong with the list? Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Rudy Giuliani, and Bobby Jindal all have prime time speaking slots - but Romney, who came in second in the primaries, and who has been one of the most visible supporters of McCain since the primaries ended - is stuck with a daytime spot.
That indicates one of two things: either Romney will actually speak at another time, and the speech will be moved,or he is being given an extremely cold shoulder by the GOP - something that seems very unlikely, knowing what the reaction from Romney supporters would be, particularly considering that Huckabee has a prime time slot - not to mention the effort and dedication Romney has put forward to get McCain elected.
You are so right, there are not enough liberals in the GOP.
(sarcasm)
The Government/politicians are the source of most faults in this country!
“Which country? Mexico?”
lol.
“Why wont Duncan Hunter be speaking? Or Ted Nugent?”
Not “country-club” enough?
You’re exactly right- If it happens, he will become just what we don’t need, another RINO. And, depending on Nov election results, it just might not mean anything.
It’s probably either Rob Portman, Eric Cantor, Rick Santorum, or John Kasich who will be the VP pick, if, and only if, it truly is somebody that’s not one of the speakers from the previous days. It’s anybody’s guess at this point, but I truly still see McCain picking a non-conservative as his final VP pick. Charlie Crist has been my guess for a long time.
Yeah, boo all the RINOs off the stage!!! Booooo!!!
Won’t be hardly anyone left!
