The thing about the slowly boiled frog is, that by the time he realizes he's being cooked, his leg muscles and nerves have been destroyed... and he has nothing with which to jump out of the pot.
Through the tyranny of his own appetite, Mr. John Q Frog has been Super Sized, Ritalinized, McMansionized, and Nintendoized into a Rainbow state of obese, diabetic, consumer driven submission.
Presuming the sheeple could still jump, I don't see much evidence that they even want to get out of the pot... let alone will.

"You make a good point, but Pennsylvanians are different!" I sure hope so. The unions there did a good job of closing the textile plants around Scranton/ Wilkes Barre when I was there. My parents said screw this crap!
